What games exactly?

We've decided to start pinning large social games that are in signups if that's any help. :)

i mean like... the 5-6-7 different "joke" survivors that are going on right now?

Maybe just pin ongoing anon games for their duration? Then you don't have to go sifting through threads and it might motivate the mods to keep them more up to date ;)

In my defense, I was not making it a joke.

The reason I make anti-Survivor or Survivor : North Korea was because I'm really interested in how it works.

For Survivor : Dictator, I am interested because South Korea is running a variation of Survivor : Dictatorship called Society Game.

Society Game is made by the same people who made The Genius, fyi.

For Anti-Survivor, I am interested becuase I'm trying to think how are you going to play this game. There are only 2 strategies in my mind: Go for early boot or play long ball game and hope to appeal to the jury by helping the jury eliminated.

There's Anti-Survivor and Survivor OTT, I don't think that's really cluttering the forum especially when the real games are pinned

PEDIT: That's the plan Chev! :D

Which isn't remotely a Survivor.

it dilutes the idea of a survivor game being something special

see, in the past month: clusterfuck, dictator, vacation, OTT, anti-survivor

I kind of agree, but I'm not sure there's anything good that can be done about it.

It really only needs to be the anon games. Those threads are locked and can only be updated by the mods. Non-anons and experimental survivors have their players free to update them, so they don't get lost so easily.

Plus, I do agree with Reck that the ones which run through this queue are something special due to the massive amounts of work put into them.

WHEW okay so boy oh boy do I ever have thoughts about this and I'm going to subject you to them!

Point 1
: Once upon a time, we didn't have constant games running. I know, shocking, but let's look at the OP of Survivor: UPick:
ShadowLurker, wow, blast from the past wrote:I know that Solitary won the Poll, but MS hasn't had a completed Survivor in ages, and there aren't any large games going on now so I think a Survivor would be appropriate.
For more evidence, look at the Wiki page for Survivor games. Most people mark Mushroom Kingdom as the renaissance point for MafiaScum large-scale ORGs, so let's use that as our starting point, remembering that the site started in 2005.

Pre-Mushroom Kingdom (October 2010)
: 10 games completed, 7 abandoned
Post-Mushroom Kingdom
: 31 completed, 2 abandoned, one ongoing

I can just as easily argue that this queue itself has ruined the "specialness" of Survivor games because back
when America was great
in the day, the well-run games were fewer and far between. But in fact most people would argue just the opposite: today, if you sign up for a game, you know that there's been real work put into it, it's EXTREMELY unlikely that it's going to be abandoned, and you're going to enjoy yourself.

Point 2
: The games you are complaining about are not serious games. Several of them were explicitly stated to be concept playtests for potential future games. Others are being run by people who are not interested in running a full-scale game, and in every case, players are not trying that hard! Go read the endgame of Survivor: Vacation, where both finalists explicitly said "lol we didn't try really we're just here to fuck around vote whatever."

And, as a subpoint that I don't want to make its own point, random games like this are sort of the whole point of Mish Mash? Like, SPITFLY and Elect the Executioner are popular mainstays of the forum and what you're essentially arguing is regulating that as well and at a certain point this becomes too much and nobody is having any fun.

Point 3
: Survivor: OTT is not a Survivor game by any definition, it's just people fucking around, shitposting and voting on random characters to eliminate. It's essentially a random simulation with more shitposting and basically do you even know what you're talking about at this point?

this needed to be its own point because you bitching about Survivor: OTT literally makes negative sense and shows me you haven't read the thread

Point 4
: Explain to me what being an elitist dick about large-scale games gets us, huh

Like, we have a queue in place
against everything I ever wanted as Janitor
because people thought that the Survivor games were special and important enough to have some moderate regulations in place so that we don't get stuff like Survivor: Mario Bros appearing one day or I dunno, a Survivor game getting planned in a weekend and appearing out of nowhere

Like if someone posts a thread saying "Hey sign up for my 18-player Survivor game, we have challenges and you vote each other out and at the end there's a winner" then yes, I will be right there with you saying "hey, actually, we sorta have a system for this?" because that's the model this site works on, and that's fine, whatever. But if we're gonna shut down every smaller game that someone wants to run then what is the point, where is the fun, what precisely does this accomplish except chasing people out of the community

Let's not forget half the reason this queue exists is that we already had an informal queue that everyone was following and we wanted a semi-formal one. Not that it's relevant.

my point isn't so much the content of the games as it is the game itself

newbies coming into the forum don't really know that "Survivor Vacation" is a joke game whereas "Survivor Medevac" is a serious game.

it's about the nomenclature and potential confusion

i said "dilution of the importance of the games". yes if someone is already familiar with mish mash and how it works it's obvious these aren't serious games. but if someone is just browsing the forum at a glance it looks liek we run 4 diff survivor games simultaneously

Frankly, it's difficult, as a moderator of a "joke game", to do anything different. Like, what do I call a game divided into rounds, where immunity is given out, and the jury decides the winner?

I don't think separating the games out is a bad idea at all, and pinning current games to Mish Mash is a pretty good way to do that. I'm definitely open to other ways to separate them, since it would be unfortunate if people were confused.

Fortunately, we do have the Large Games Queue, and anyone willing to take a bit of time can find the answers they're looking for fairly quickly. But I'm all for making things as accessible as possible.

We can always just rename our "joke" games to catchy alternatives like "Island Dweller", "Voting Competition", "Competitive Democracy", "Australian Survivor", "Thriver", "Apple Cider", "Derider", "Inside Her", "Stranded", "Glass House", or "The Bachelor but Not At All".

How about if we have a consensus that certain game has an icon.

The icon of joke survivor, let us say, is a star icon.

The icon of real survivor, let us say, is a flaming fire icon.

The icon is avaliable from the OP.

I don't really understand the point of doing those changes.

If a new member can't go to the effort of understanding, I don't think they're going to be capable of doing well in the large games.

People end up here because they joined MS for the mafia, or through friends. At least I don't see people indirectly finding our mishmash community through other means, I don't think we're well known enough

So it's been decided in Skype that we'll do Nexus-Ned's-MLS unless Pirates vs. Ninjas wants to take their turn.
