BattleCON G21 - Accountant (Seth) vs. Zorblag (Mikhail)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Wed Oct 05, 2016 8:36 pm

Post by Zorblag »

It's another game of BattleCON! Welcome to a match of divine vessles! The Oracle, Seth faces off against the Hand of Divinity, Mikhail! Can Seth keep Mikhail's power sealed long enough to bring him down? Which instrument of the Gods has the edge? We'll find out in this battle!

If you're interested in learning about or playing a game yourself at some point I'll point you to the BattleCON discussion thread in the Arcade. For now, thanks to Accountant for stepping up to be the next scummer to whale on a Troll in the pbf fighting series!

We'll be playing with Dodge and the Force Gauge.

Ante the first beat will go to Seth on 1 and Mikhail on 2.
Original Roll String: 1d2
1 2-Sided Dice: (2) = 2

@Seth, go ahead and submit your discard 1, discard 2 and finisher. Remember that Discard 2 is the one you'll get back first.

Zorblag, how would you feel about doing a post-game analysis of the game to identify mistakes and try to improve?
There's nothing that says that a fake can't beat the real thing.

You must not imagine that for beings like you and us there can be laughter. The low men laugh, and we envy them. But for us, the higher ones, there is no laughter, only an unending vigil, purely serious, stretching on into the night.

I'm more than happy to talk about the game and how it went both along the way and at the end. We're here to have fun and to get better! I hope that you'll point out any mistakes I make as well.

But before we get to that, are you sure you don't want to use the Force Special Action as one of your two style discards? For some characters there's a chance you'd want to use it, but I'm not so sure with Seth. Just making sure you're considering all the options.

I realized you could do that when I submitted my post and looked at your discards, but I'm not the sort to violate honor and change my discards just because I made a mistake. If you'll allow it, however, then my new discards would be as follows.

Discard 2: Compelling Dodge
Discard 1: Force Special Action Grasp

I mostly just want you to play with what you think the best start is. That makes the game better for both of us!

Okay - let's go with the new Discards, then. I didn't realize you could discard FSA at the start of a game.

Kicking myself right now because I was 95% sure you'd use a Shot but got cold feet and changed to a burst at the last minute.

Stun Guard 2.

Though based on that last comment it looks like you've looked at my attack pair. In general we should finish the ante phase first.

I might make some comments also, if you don't mind and I feel like it.

Also, aren't both fighters supposed to start with 2 force?

Oh, shite, I forgot, I'm so sorry. Not used to PbP.

I'll pass for all antes this round to compensate.

@KingdomeAces, it should be starting with Force 2 (I got that wrong for at least our last game if not the ones before.) I'll go adjust that for this game!

@Accountant, no worries. You're getting used to the format and I don't think it matters this time anyhow.

I'll retreat two spaces.

For start of beat actions, active player controls order, right?

I will say that my default base was probably going to be drive and I switched to shot to avoid your Beyond Eyes, so good instinct there even though you didn't follow through!

The active player goes first for all phases, so I suppose that I pull you one first and then you retreat 2.

After that I hit you and stun you, and then you don't hit me.

END OF BEAT 1

oSooMoo

Seth 14/3
Discard 1: Mimic's Burst
Discard 2: Force Special Grasp
Finisher: Reading Fate

Mikhail - 20/1
Discard 1: Hallowed Shot
Discard 2: Force Special Dodge
Finisher: Magnus Malleus
Seal Tokens: 2

The way I thought was like this:
Strike is out of the question even if you're using Hallowed, because Drive, Burst or even Vanishing destroy it.
Dash and Grasp are discarded.
Burst was the card I guessed, which in hindsight was an awful choice - Mikhail wants to get close and wail on Seth, not run away.
That leaves Drive and Shot. Given that my initial instinct was to play Burst, and you know this, I figured you would think Drive was too obvious an option and go with Shot.

I find that a lot of people like to play Shot at range 2 against Beyond Eyes for some reason!

Zorblag, the discards are wrong. Compelling Dodge was my Discard 2.

It should be

Discard 1: Mimic Burst
Discard 2: Force Special Action Grasp

EDIT: Additionally, have you considered buying Tabletop Simulator? It's easier to play BattleCON that way, not that i mind this style of playing.
