I wouldn't say I have *lots* of experience, but I've bumbled my way through a few games here now. Mostly I've subbed in to other games, I think this is my third played right from the start. I'm still hoping for my first town win - fingers crossed this is going to be it!

Well this got off to a quick start.
Do you people have any experience with mafia? I'm fresh out of the clusterfuck which is Telegram Werewolf, which was what really brought me back after a year long hiatus. I'm a little more experienced now though, and hopefully a little better at catching the baddies. :)
This is my 2nd newbie game (1st from the start), and third on the site. Both of the previous games are ongoing, so I can't say anything about them. I played a different style of forum mafia on another site, different than here (Days were 48 hours, nights were 24 hours).

Also...VOTE: AstralFlare. Avatar is too cute...trying to throw us off, I think.

How can you accuse someone of having a too-cute avatar when yours is a penguin! And your *name* is a penguin

In my defense, my Penguin has a sword which detracts from said cuteness factor and reinforces a badassness factor.

Hello everyone! It looks like we have several players who will be posting while I am asleep.

So far everything looks NAI to me.

As you can see I am completely new here, but I do have some experience with online non-forum games and irl (both of which have a very different pace, so I'm not sure how useful that experience is). Most of my information is directly from the wiki and therefore out-of-date.

The read on Chrimi is essentially based on tone. The read on you is because your jump onto the Chrimi wagon is a tad more conspicuous than the moves I'd expect scum to make at this stage of the game.

Vaguely scummy vibes from Penguin. But nothing concrete. Still,

Hello Imp.
Vaguely scummy vibes from Penguin.
I thought it was strange that PP didn't seem to want to talk with Shannon in (he didn't have any questions for her), but it felt more like a playstyle thing than an alignment thing. If anything, scum has more reason to chat people up, especially this early in the game when there's so little pressure. He's still a null read for me.

You thought it was strange I didn't question someone referencing my avatar's cuteness? I probably should have more strongly referenced the ninja stars as well.

Well...if we're already at that stage after 34 posts...
What are your thoughts on Chrimi's response in to AF's question in ?

It felt proportional.

On the other hand... she opened up with a self vote in Open 398, where she ended up being scum. I couldn't find any other games where she started like that.

I might not be on for a bit.

Chrimi: do you have any alt games where you started with a self vote? It feels a bit off that you would say "Self voting during RVS is a fun way to get some conversation started in my opinion" when you've only done it once(?).

PP: since you asked about it, you probably have some thoughts on the Chrimi/AF interaction. Could you share them?

Jibs seems towny, he's quite actively questioning people and trying to push the discussion forward, with lots of effort spent on checking Chrimi's past games. I'll be investigating those as well, and I'll post in a few hours if I find anything interesting.

Implosion, is your Penguin FoS tone based as well?

@Penguin: there are two really convenient ways to link posts in case you don't know them:

Code: Select all

[post]24[/post]

[post=24]Blah blah blah[/post]

The former is useful if you just want to link the number, the latter lets you put in whatever text you want for the link.

The penguin scumread is also tonal, based specifically on his vote moreso than on the post that came after it.

That was in 2012! In her more recent games, I'm unable to find any examples of anyone selfvoting during RVS.

Chrimi: In addition to Jib's question, I would like to know if you've had any recent off-site experience.

I've seen the RVS self-vote a couple of times, but I can't link it here. I don't think it's necessarily indicative of alignment.

It's the middle of the day for me (11:35 AM as I write this) so I'm working - most of my posts will come on the weekend or in the evening (my time).

I do find it interesting that people are checking Chrimi's past games so thoroughly at such an early stage, based on what looked (to me) to be a reasonably off-hand comment. I personally don't delve in to past games looking for clues as to play style, I just go on what I remember from playing with them.

I haven't really figured out what behaviors are considered "town" and "scum" yet, so I don't have much for reads.
Implosion has attributed most his readings to people's tone. Is this normal for early mafia, or at least the random vote stage?
Shannon has been present, but not adding much to discussion (I can't complain there, as I'm doing the same).
You are actively seeking information and motivations.
Chrimi drew a lot of attention to herself and then went quiet, though it easily could have been due to the lull in the conversation at that time.
thenewearth didn't say much in response to Implosion's vote, so I don't have a behavior to interpret there.
PenguinPower voted for someone who is already engaged in conversation, which seems unproductive.
Jibs is actuvely searching for incriminating evidence, as you pointed out.
kk2016 apparently still hasn't confirmed.

By the way, what does NAI stand for?

Yes. Again though, it's a very weak read.
Rocnix wrote:Implosion has attributed most his readings to people's tone. Is this normal for early mafia, or at least the random vote stage?
It's normal because we don't have very much information to go off of right now; there aren't any interesting interactions or particularly noteworthy actions that have been taken yet, so in order to generate content, I'm trying to figure out what I can based on tone or other signs that emerge early.
Rocnix wrote:By the way, what does NAI stand for?
Not alignment indicative.

Wait wait wait

Are you guys seriously taking my first post's RVS joking self-vote as somehow scummy?

I've had alternate accounts, as well, not that it matters. I've also played a shitton off-site. :s
