You enter, drink in hand, and sit down. The room is dimly lit, with a single, bright light shining squarely on the center of the table.
A fresh deck of cards is opened, and initially shuffled by sliding all the cards around the table, face-down, as if being washed. After about a minute, the cards are gathered again, shuffled normally, cut, and dealt. The variant you are playing is Texas Hold 'em. You pick up the corners of your two cards, such that the suits and values are visible, and set them down again.
A few small pots are won; nothing too unusual. Then, after a few cycles of raising and reraising, a bigger pot is won; flush, which the winner made on the river after the Queen of Clubs showed up, over three of a kind.
After the cards are picked up, you notice a fairly visible black smudge on the back of the Queen of Clubs.
"This wasn't there when I drew it the last hand, was it?", you think to yourself.
