Some people actually play Mafia in this part of the Internet. Who knew? In any case, there's nine of you here clamoring to play a game and me hosting it. A bunch of you might even be new. That sounds like a recipe for joy.
The confirmation phase is to ensure that players have read and understood their role PMs. The mafia private topic is open for use during this period. Players should confirm by responding to their role PM with their assigned alignment and role. Simply posting in a private topic may not constitute confirmation. Pre-game lasts for 48 hours or until all players have submitted valid confirmations, whichever occurs first.
Day
The Day phase ends at deadline or when a simple majority of votes occur. Day phases will have a deadline of 14 days. The mafia private topic is closed during this period. Deadline extensions will be granted only in extreme circumstances.
Lynches occur through simple majority (50% of living players + 1, rounded down). If no majority is reached at deadline or there is a majority of votes for No Lynch, Day will end without a lynch.
Players may vote, or unvote, for players to be lynched by posting their choices in bold (e.g.,
Vote: mith
and
Unvote
). Unvotes are preferred but not necessary when switching votes (e.g.,
Unvote, Vote: mith
). Use of the vote tags (e.g., VOTE: mith and UNVOTE: ) is optional. Votes placed by accounts not present in the game will not be counted. Vote tricks will not be tolerated, and any judgment passed over the validity of any ambiguous votes is final.
Twilight
The Twilight phase is the period between the hammer vote (i.e., the last vote that put someone at a majority) and the beginning of the Night phase. Once a majority is reached, no further votes or unvotes will count. All players, including the lynched player, are allowed to talk in Twilight phase until the thread is locked, at which point Day ends. Dead players may not post until the game has been officially declared over.
Night
The Night phase lasts 72 hours. The mafia private topic is open for use during this period.
Actions may be submitted via PM or private topic. Actions not received by deadline will be considered forfeit. Actions may be submitted ahead of time and can be changed as many times as desired; at deadline, the last valid action that was submitted will be used. Wherever possible, a reminder is sent 24 hours before the deadline to all players with an eligible action.
Game Rules
In general, anything that may be seen as underhanded that is not in this post may still be against the rules. Attempts to abuse technicalities in the rules will be considered rule violations.
Activity
- Prods are automatically issued after 48 hours of inactivity. Players who have been prodded have 48 hours to post in the game thread before a replacement is sought. Saturday and Sunday is considered a 24-hour period. An excessive number of prods can lead to replacement without further notice.
Civility
- Please keep the game civil and avoid personal attacks. Use of homophobic, racist, sexist, or any other derogatory slurs will not be tolerated.
Discussion of Ongoing Games
- While this game is running, you may not discuss this game anywhere outside of the game thread unless you have been explicitly allowed to do so. You may not discuss any other game in this thread before it has been declared over.
What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas
- Do not quote, or pretend to quote, any private communication, including game-related PMs, instant messages, and QuickTopics. Quoting time stamps from any private communication is also forbidden. Paraphrasing is allowed; quoting from public sources is also allowed.
Hidden Messages
- If it is not visible to the naked eye, do not post it. This includes but is not limited to: invisible text, tiny text, encrypted text, and text hidden within tags. For cases of breadcrumbing where you aren't sure if this rule would be violated, please PM me beforehand.
Impersonation
- Do not use
#BF0000
. Do not make any post with the intent of impersonating the moderator.
Play to Win
- Players are expected to play to their win condition. Do not purposefully act against the interests of your faction out of your boredom or anger.
Any situation not covered above will be handled on a case-by-case basis. I reserve the right to add, modify, or remove rules as necessary. I will notify you of any changes in the thread.
Please PM me if you need clarification on anything in the rules.

I'm the IC or Inexperience Challenged [kind of a silly name but you didn't hear that from me]. That basically means that I'm going to be both a player playing to their win condition and someone who is here to help you understand how to play mafia in general. My word isn't gospel, but I have some experience and am here as a resource for you. In general, if you have a question relating to your role or the setup, I would suggest talking it over with Equinox as she's your best impartial resource on such things.
In terms of what I can personally help you with, I'm here for helping with your general understanding of what's going on in the game if anything is unclear in terms of general theory or clarifying any kind of confusing terminology or references to things that you might not understand. If anything is unclear, please just ask. Otherwise, just think of me as another player to interact with in the game.
This first portion of the game is called RVS or Random-Voting-Stage. People tend to do silly votes/votes with generally simple reasoning to try and get things started off.
11 is weird. Is making dead-related jokes with names in RVS something Cheetory usually does? Checking 2 games of Cheetory's. Nope, he does it in neither.
9 seemed to be poking around for potential dirt. 11 looks conciliatory and happy-making in contrast. What was your goal in 9 and what did you mean by 11?

So did you read #17 or what? You're supposed to random vote at the beginning of the game. It generates discussion. At least you're participating now, albeit in a way I very much disagree with.

RVS isn't compulsory.
@Zaraki - do you think random voting at this point in the game is a bad idea? If so, why?
I do indeed think it is wrong. Look, voting on D1 is wonderful for pressuring scum but it's just so RANDOM. I mean, on D1 we all know that the town outnumbers the mafia by quite a large margin. There is just such a small change that a scum is voted that it's ALMOST, I say almost a gaurunteed town loss. Why should we vote away fellow townies? There's just such a small chance of scum lynching that it isn't even worth it. I'd go as far as to saying random on D1 is pro-scum. Therefore my vote stays as only scum would want to random knowing that it is súper unlikely to be hit, since town always starts with a huge majority.

I asked you if you thought voting randomly at this stage was wrong. This answer seems to be saying that lynching at all Day 1 (almost always) favors scum.
1) Am I correct that you believe this?
2) If so, why not vote No Lynch to start the game?
3) Why did you vote Deimos if you believe Day 1 lynches favor scum?
