We judged "Funniest Poster" based on in-game posts, not out of game. And "Name Should be in Orange" has generally gone to list mods, admins, etc.. Vi & Tierce are the exception, but even they won the award for maintain the mafia wiki and saving mafia games (respectively).

I'm not opposed to there being a "Mashies" award, but I don't understand the insistence that the work should be done for you. Set up some categories, get some judges and writers, and start awarding stuff. Hell, Forum 62 does it all the time, why can't you guys?

By "we" are you speaking as a member of the Scummies Judging Committee? because that's not how I understood it...

Yeah. I was part of the group that judged the "Funniest Player" award. We weren't given any particular guidelines (a discussion for another day, for sure), so we judged according to what we felt was appropriate. Since any given poster could have 1000s of posts in a given year, confining judging to game posts seemed appropriate.

2) What's the point of giving "Name Should Be In
Red Text
Orange" to actual admins?

Because a lot of admins do really good work and rarely get recognition? (Yes, the award name is silly)

The discussion was pretty intense. I argued for Marketplace over Cyclic simply because the category was called "Best" Mechanic/Mutation, not most original. Plus the first Cyclic game (the one nominated that we were judging) had a design flaw that crippled the scum team's chances for victory. We all agreed that if we were judging Cyclic 2, it would win. But in the narrow view, Magua's setup was superbly executed and designed.
