TM2012: White Flag Mafia (Game Over)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Thu May 03, 2012 8:48 am

Post by Equinox »

— Small town in Sicily, present day. Evening.

Well, the group of Mafia players huddled around the fireplace could pretend that they were part of some vigilante justice against an evil, organized crime force in Italy, but they were still cold. This building they had been assigned for this game was plain, unlike the others in which their teammates were staying, but it suited the game's, and by extension its players', purposes well. There was a place to congregate, where they would spend most of their daylight hours, and there were rooms in which they would sleep during the night. The rooms were said to have been specially designed to facilitate the game, but that aroused the curiosity of no one at all at that moment. The trek up the hill through cold wind and darkness had tired them all, and they would soon have all the time in the world to get acquainted with their surroundings.

Somewhere in that Sicilian town, three goons sent by their don would be roaming about, scouting it for possible business opportunity. The townspeople, aware of this imminent threat, would be prepared to drive them away, knowing that all it took to have the mafia settling here was to send a goon home with the town's bloody message. This story, however, needed to start somewhere. Even for those players who were not paying attention to the narrative, it was time for bed, and eventually the crowd by the fire in the common room dwindled until only the three goons remained. From their earpieces, they could hear the voices of their teammates, curious as to the identities of their fellow conspirators. The three of them nodded, acknowledging that the game was now ready to begin.

Rules

General Rules

All rules listed in the Boilerplate Game Rules page apply to this game except where contradicted in the additional rules below:

  1. #BF0000
is reserved for the moderator. All other formatting is fair game as long as it does not attempt to impersonate the moderator.
  2. The deadlines for Days and Nights will vary based on the pace of this game relative to the other four games and will be determined by the Team Mafia supervisor.
  3. Prods will be issued to players if they have not posted within a 48-hour period. Players who have not posted within 7 days of their last post in the game will be forcibly replaced and penalties assessed.
  4. Lynches occur through simple majority (50% of living players + 1, rounded down). If no majority is reached at deadline or there is a majority of votes for No Lynch, the Day will end without a lynch. Once majority is reached, no further votes or unvotes will count.
  5. All players, including the lynched player, are allowed to talk in twilight phase until the moderator locks the thread, at which point Day ends. Dead players may not post until the moderator declares that the thread is open for post-game discussion.
  6. Actions not received by deadline will be considered forfeit. Actions may be submitted ahead of time and can be changed as many times as desired; at deadline, the last action that was submitted will be used. Actions may be submitted via PM or QuickTopic.
  7. Flavor is for entertainment purposes only and has no significance in the game.

Team Mafia Rules

The full set of rules governing Team Mafia 2012 and its games are available here. The sections pertaining to discussion of other Team Mafia 2012 games and of teammates are quoted below for convenience:

Talking About Other Games

  1. Players may mention other games only to talk about things that have been mod confirmed such as what a player flipped when they were killed. They may not speculate about another game's players (such as who is scummy and so forth). You may not talk about how bad a wagon was, etc. You must keep it to only the information provided by the moderator.
  2. To reiterate: speculation about other games is prohibited.
  3. Any attempt to try to signal to another game what they should or should not do is against the rules.
  4. Attempts to be "clever" and circumvent these rules will be treated harshly. We will "pierce" hypothetical questions or answers, ignoring the hypothetical nature and assume that it is meant to be a factual statement.
  5. A major violation is defined as one that has the potential to be game breaking. For example, if your teammate is dead and flipped town, posting about who is scummy in that game will be a major violation.
  6. Explicitly Allowed: You may mention who is on each team. You may mention what stage (e.g. Day 2) a game is in. You may mention how many players are left alive from a team, including your own. You may mention how many scum have been killed/alive in a particular game (or town alive/killed), knowing that all games are 10v3 or 9v3. You may talk as much as you wish about a game that is finished.
  7. None of this applies to your team QT. You may post what you wish in there.

Your Teammates Are Always Innocent Until Proven Guilty

  1. You may at no time say, indicate, insinuate, etc. that your Team Mafia teammates are or might be anything other than town. This includes in any hypothetical situation.
  2. Exception: You may talk about your teammates being scum if they have flipped scum in another game (i.e. are dead).
  3. If a player is NOT on your team and is still alive in another game, you must follow the rules in the Talking About Other Games section. In other words, you may not speculate on a player's alignment in another game.

Any situations not covered above will be handled on an individual basis.

Setup

The 13-player White Flag open setup is a vanilla ("mountainous") setup consisting of 10 townies and 3 mafia goons where the mafia will surrender to the town if they are reduced to one living mafioso.

Ten people have received:

Welcome to Team Mafia 2012: White Flag Mafia, XXX!

You are a
townie
.

You have no special abilities beyond the right to vote.

You win when only one member of the mafia is still alive and at least one member of the town remains standing.

The game thread is here.

Three people have received:

Welcome to Team Mafia 2012: White Flag Mafia, XXX!

You are a
mafia goon
with
YYY
and
ZZZ
, who are
mafia goons
.

You and your partners may talk in this QuickTopic during the Night phase, and you may choose one player each Night to eliminate. You may not target yourself or your partners.

You win when the number of mafia equals or exceeds the number of remaining players or when nothing can prevent such an occurrence; at least two members of the mafia must remain standing.

The game thread is here.

He was the fourth on the bandwagon, which is my breaking point for "bandwagon inflation". But more importantly, he made a comment that did not further any discussion at all and was kind of pointless. Other people either just voted or came up with a silly reason for voting. You asked Singer a valid meta-related question. CES just made a silly comment on the game itself that served no purpose.

4 votes on a player in a game where 7 is needed for lynch is still fine with me, heck I would even call it pro-town. As to your second point no real comment, but I view it as null.

CES' first post comes off as null to me.

Bub's post and response strike me as townish.

I don't find bandwagoning scummy, avoiding bandwagons is something I'd see as more likely to extend RVS.

Townpoints because I agree with this. CES plays the early game a pretty similar way most of the time and is tricky to read because of it.
