  • Rules

    Ethics and Etiquette

    i) All the global rules and guidelines hold in this game, and are not duplicated below.
    ii) Never link to or quote from any Private Topic provided by the mod. Loose paraphrasing should be fine.
    iii) Excessive coarse language should not be directed at other players. Frustration is natural, but keep it in check.
    iv) Don't impersonate the mod. They won't edit other people's posts except to fix tags; they won't leave other comments.
    v) Cryptography and steganography are forbidden, as are any forms of provable randomness (e.g. dice tags, random.org screenshots).
    vi) If you have outside information which alters your knowledge of the game or suspect the game has been compromised, contact the mod immediately.
    vii) Don't exploit technicalities or ambiguities in any of the rules to do something you should know is forbidden or unethical.

    Matters of Life and Death

    viii) A vote or unvote is valid so long as it contains the word 'vote' or 'unvote' directly followed by a player's name or 'no lynch', all in instantly readable unquoted bold text.
    ix) Abbreviations or misspellings of a player's name or 'no lynch' are valid whilst voting, so long as they are unambiguous.
    x) Votes and unvotes are invalid if they come from any account not listed as alive and presently in the game.
    xi) A lynch occurs when a player receives greater than 50% of all votes.
    xii) A no lynch occurs when greater than or equal to 50% of all votes are placed in favour.
    xiii) Players may continue talking after a lynch or no lynch has occurred until the mod announces it.
    xiv) Once the mod has announced their death, a player may not post further. This includes 'bah' posts.

    Actions, Activity, and Deadlines

    xv) The lengths of Day and Night phases are up to the mod but will generally be between 5 and 14 days and 48 and 72 hours respectively.
    xvi) If the Day deadline expires without a majority of votes on a player, nobody dies and the game moves into Night.
    xvii) If Day or Night actions are not submitted via PM or in bold in a mod-provided PT before deadline, they do not resolve.
    xviii) Players who do not wish to perform an available Day or Night action should submit 'no action' or risk being replaced.
    xix) Deadlines are extended only in exceptional circumstances or if a player needs replacement. No phase ends until all slots are occupied.
    xx) Players who do not post for 48 hours will be prodded. Not responding to a prod within 48 hours or receiving 4 prods will see that player replaced.
    xxi) If a player expects to be unable to post for upwards of 48 hours, they should declare V/LA legibly, in bold, in-thread, to avoid being prodded.

    Miscellaneous

    xxii) When in doubt, ask the mod.
    xxiii) Flavour will never have any significance, hidden or otherwise, to the game.
    xxiv) Punishment for breaking the rules is determined on a case-by-case basis, and may range from a warning to a modkill or replacement.
    xxv) The mod reserves the right to add, modify, or remove rules as necessary, but will not change relevant rules during or after the fact.

  • Setup

    This game is a Smalltown. From the wiki:
    A Smalltown setup is a setup where almost not only are all the roles in the game public knowledge (as with an Open Setup), but also who has what role. That is, if one of the roles is a Tracker, everyone in the game not only knows that there's a Tracker, but they also know which player it is.

    Alignment is still hidden, and is very commonly distributed randomly. Instead of being tied to specific roles in the design, random roles will be picked to be in the Mafia or to be the Serial Killer, and will then gain factional kills or abilities in addition to their normal ones.

    ... Because the entire setup is open, some moderators perform a draft where players are allowed to pick their role, very similar to a Pick Your Power game.

    After a draft is conducted, players will be randomly assigned an alignment. Nine players will be aligned with the
    Town
    , three will be aligned with the
    Mafia
    , and one will be self-aligned—a
    Serial Killer
    . Players will receive the appropriate PMs:

    Spoiler: for Town

    Welcome to
    Mini 1646: Quil's Smalltown
    , [playername]!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You are a
    Town
    member.
    Therefore, you win the game if:
    • ### all Mafia- and self-aligned players are dead and at least one
      Town-aligned
      player is alive.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    You must confirm by replying to this PM with your alignment.

    The game thread is here. Good luck, play fair, and have fun!

    Spoiler: for Mafia

    Welcome to
    Mini 1646: Quil's Smalltown
    , [playername]!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You are a
    Mafia
    member.
    Therefore, you win the game if:
    • ### all Town- and self-aligned players are dead and at least one
      Mafia-aligned
      player is alive,
      ### or if nothing can prevent the above from happening.
    You have the following factional abilities:
    • >>>
      Kill
      : Remove a player from the game each Night by naming them to the moderator.
      Only one player in your faction can use this ability each Night.
      >>>
      Nighttalk
      : During Nights and in Pregame, you may talk to the other players in your faction in your Private Topic.
      You may submit abilities via PM or in boldface in the Private Topic.
    You may perform both factional and role-related abilities in the same Night.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    You must confirm by replying to this PM with your alignment.

    The game thread is here. Good luck, play fair, and have fun!

    Spoiler: for the Serial Killer

    Welcome to
    Mini 1646: Quil's Smalltown
    , [playername]!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You are a
    Serial Killer
    .
    Therefore, you win the game if:
    • ### you are the only player alive,
      ### or if nothing can prevent the above from happening.
    You have the following factional abilities:
    • >>>
      Kill
      : Remove a player from the game each Night by naming them to the moderator.
      >>>
      One-Shot Bulletproof
      : You are guaranteed to survive a single successful kill attempt made on you.
      You will be informed when this happens.
    You may perform both factional and role-related abilities in the same Night.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    You must confirm by replying to this PM with your alignment.

    The game thread is here. Good luck, play fair, and have fun!

    After confirming, players will turn to the thread, and in the order determined by the draft select one of the following roles to make their own:

    Spoiler: the Ascetic
    You are the
    Ascetic
    .

    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Austerity
      : Except for killing actions, all actions that target you will fail.
      For such a failed action, your targeter will not register as having targeted you that night.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Spoiler: the Roleblocker
    You are the
    Roleblocker
    .
    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Roleblock
      : At Night, nominate a player to the moderator to ensure their abilities fail.
      However, this ability has no effect on passive abilities.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Spoiler: the Gentleman Thief
    You are the
    Gentleman Thief
    .

    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Steal
      : At Night, nominate a player to the moderator to swap this role (but not alignment) for theirs.
      All uses of this ability are noted by the moderator in the game thread.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Spoiler: the Bulletproof
    You are the
    Bulletproof
    .
    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      1-Shot Bulletproof Vest
      : You possess a Bulletproof Vest which will protect from a single successful kill attempt.
      You may give the Vest to another player, and they may in turn pass it on, provided its protection has not been used up.
      The current owner of the Vest will be notified if its protection is used up. It is not revealed whether a dead player was passed the Vest.
      If the owner of the Vest is roleblocked, any attempt to pass it on will fail but the owner will still be under its protection.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Spoiler: the Bodyguard
    You are the
    Bodyguard
    .

    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Human Shield
      : Each Night you may protect a player by naming them to the moderator.
      If they are targeted by a kill attempt that would otherwise succeed, you will die in their place.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Spoiler: the Insomniac
    You are the
    Insomniac
    .
    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Sleeplessness
      : You are given the names of all the players who target you during the Night.
      This ability is passive: it cannot be roleblocked.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Spoiler: the Invictus
    You are the
    Invictus
    .

    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Invictus
      : You may nominate a player each Night.
      If you are nightkilled, you will kill your nominated player as well.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Spoiler: the Universal Backup
    You are the
    Universal Backup
    .
    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Backup
      : You will inherit the role (but not the alignment) of the first player to die.
      This ability is passive: it cannot be roleblocked.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Spoiler: the One-Shot Cop
    You are the
    One-Shot Cop
    .

    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      One-Shot Investigate
      : At Night, nominate a player to the moderator to learn whether or not they are a Mafia member.
      You can only use this ability once. If it fails via roleblock or theft it is not considered to have been used.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Spoiler: the Archivist
    You are the
    Archivist
    .
    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Archives
      : Each Night you may nominate the current or a previous Night phase and a player.
      You will be told who, if anyone, the nominated player targeted on the nominated Night phase.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Spoiler: the Coroner
    You are the
    Coroner
    .

    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Autopsy
      : At the beginning of each Day phase you will be informed of the faction responsible for any successful kill.
      This ability is passive: it cannot be roleblocked.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Spoiler: the Encryptor
    You are the
    Encryptor
    .
    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Encrypt
      : If the person holding this role is alive and a Mafia member, daytalk is enabled for their faction.
      This ability is passive: it cannot be roleblocked.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Spoiler: the Vengeful Vanilliser
    You are the
    Vengeful Vanilliser
    .

    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Retaliate
      : If you are lynched, you may select a player who was voting for you.
      That player will lose all their non-factional abilities. This ability is passive: it cannot be roleblocked.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    After selecting their role, players may request an updated Role PM. For example, if a Town player selected the Encryptor role, they would receive the following Role PM upon request:
    Spoiler: example Role PM
    Welcome to
    Mini 16XX: Quil's Smalltown
    , [playername]!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    You are a
    Town
    member.

    Therefore, you win the game if:
    • ### all Mafia- and self-aligned players are dead and at least one
      Town-aligned
      player is alive.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You are the
    Encryptor
    .
    This means that along with your voice and your vote, you also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      Encrypt
      : If the person holding this role is alive and a Mafia member, daytalk is enabled for their faction.
      This ability is passive: it cannot be roleblocked.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    You do not need to confirm.

    The game thread is here. Good luck, play fair, and have fun!

    After the selection process concludes, we will move immediately into Day 1.

    A few things to note:
    • Roles resolve in the order that they are listed above, for the purposes of Night actions.
    • All kills resolve just after the Invictus, regardless of where the killers' roles are listed.
    • If you are targeted by (and resolve after) the Gentleman Thief, any actions you attempted to perform fail. Your role was stolen before you could perform them.
    • If a player is targeted by a kill while under Bulletproof Vest and Bodyguard protection, the Bodyguard takes the hit, not the Vest.
    • If a Bodyguard under Bulletproof Vest protection protects a player targeted by a kill, the Bodyguard's Vest takes the hit.
    • The Bodyguard and Bulletproof can protect against Invictus kills as well as factional kills from the Mafia and Serial Killer.
    • In the event that more than one person are the first to die, the Universal Backup may choose which of the persons' roles they wish to inherit.
    • If the Serial Killer is under the protection of both his own factional and the role-related Bulletproof Vests and is shot, the role-related Vest takes the hit.
    • The passing on of the Vest resolves directly after the Roleblocker, regardless of where the role of the person who currently has it is listed.

    These are the PMs sent when dealing with the operation of the Bulletproof and Gentleman Thief roles:

    Spoiler: PMs
    You have received a
    vest
    !

    This means that you now also possess the following special ability:
    • >>>
      1-Shot Bulletproof Vest
      : You possess a Bulletproof Vest which will protect its owner from a single successful kill attempt.
      You may give the Vest to another player, and they may in turn pass it on, provided its protection has not been used up.
      The owner of the Vest will be notified when its protection is used up. It is not revealed whether a dead player was passed the Vest.
      If the owner of the Vest is roleblocked, any attempt to pass it on will fail but the owner will still be under its protection.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You have passed on the
    vest
    .
    This means that you no longer have your
    1-Shot Bulletproof Vest
    ability.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Your role has been
    stolen
    by the Gentleman Thief! Oh dear.

    You will receive a new Role PM shortly.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You have
    stolen
    a role as the Gentleman Thief! Jolly good show, old chap.
    You will receive a new Role PM shortly.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    If you have any questions about the setup that aren't answered in this post, contact the mod.

    UPDATE: The second-last bullet point was added on 10 Feb.
    UPDATE 2: The last bullet point was added on 11 Feb.
    UPDATE 3: The PMs concerning the operation of the Bulletproof and Gentleman Thief roles were added on 27 Feb.

  • Draft progress

    11/13 players have submitted their draft numbers.

    However, all 13 players have picked up the draft PMs I sent you. Therefore, in (expired on 2015-02-09 07:33:52) I'll prod the players who have not submitted; after a further 36 hours from then I'll start looking for replacements. UPDATE: Alrighty, prods sent out. (expired on 2015-02-10 20:16:57) and counting.

    UPDATE 2: Okay. Everyone's sent in their draft numbers, but there has been at least one instance of two or more people sending in the same pair of numbers. So I'm just holding a quick tiebreaker game so we can sort the orders out. There's (expired on 2015-02-11 21:53:08) before the tiebreaker ends. If people in the tiebreaker don't meet the deadline I'll just order those people alphabetically.

    Okay, tiebreaker's done. Draft order is finalised.

    Thanks for your patience!

  • Draft results

    Okay folks, this will be the order in which you choose your roles. The numbers in parentheses were each players' draft numbers. Antihero won the tiebreaker between him and Flubbernugget.

    1. Marquis
    (11, 1)

    2. Aronis
    (222, 2)

    3. DeasVail
    (3, 1)

    4. xRECKONERx
    (3, 7)

    5. Pine
    (4, 3)

    6. Bookitty
    (4, 4)

    7. farside22
    (8, 1)

    8. Jake from State Farm
    (8, 12)

    9. Shiidaji
    (15, 1)

    10. Grib
    (15, 16)

    11. Jingle
    (2, 6)

    12. Antihero
    (2, 2)

    13. Flubbernugget
    (2, 2)

    I'm sending out alignments now. Before you enter the thread to choose your role, make sure you
    confirm as directed
    in the PM.

    You do not need to wait for me to direct you. That is, Marquis can pick as soon as he is ready, Aronis can pick straight after him without waiting for me to confirm or anything, and so on. You can change your selection until the person after you selects; after that, you're locked in. I might shoot out PMs letting you know it's your turn to pick, but like I said, you don't need to receive one before you go ahead and choose.

    Go go go!

theoretically the best course of action is to make selection phase similar to an early day 1 and determine the towniest "good/threatening" player and give them encryptor so scum has to make the decision to kill a town pr or kill a threatening player but 1) i will only trust myself for a long while this game 2) it is absolutely critical that scum don't get encryptor in this setup and 3) i don't have to worry about my pr fucking things up/being tempted not to follow plans

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I /innd this game lol

Is it bad that I don't want any of these roles?
Show
Things I've learned.
1. It's just a game, have fun.
2. Don't waste time on people who think you are scum. Ignore them and keep scum hunting.
3. Don't take everything so personal.
4. Tunneling sucks (unfortunately I can't seem to stop)

Things I've learned.
1. It's just a game, have fun.
2. Don't waste time on people who think you are scum. Ignore them and keep scum hunting.
3. Don't take everything so personal.
4. Tunneling sucks (unfortunately I can't seem to stop)
