Yeah the issue I was talking about was a former List Mod...

Edit: I feel like at the very least, when the List Mod signs up, before Role PMs go out, they should inform the alt that they know who they are.

Honestly I would assume all list moss know who you are before checking unless you're a brand new alt.

So let me get this straight: a main account and their alt CANNOT play in the same game together, right? As that would be one person taking up two spots in a particular game?

(I haven't done this, but the thought crossed my mind and I was pretty sure it's against the rules. However, I wanted to confirm for sure.)

In post 74, zoraster wrote:Game mods cannot do so unless they had that information revealed to them by the player. Listmods can (as well as Discussion Mods). They shouldn't be doing that to specifically gain an advantage in the game and should replace out if they did do that, but checking people's alts is something that is absolutely necessary to performing the duties of those jobs. I know lots of people's alt account identities just from the course of my job as an admin and my past one as a listmod. It's possible in the future I'll end up in a game with an unknown alt. That's potentially unfair, but in an environment with secret alts, that's how it has to be.

Consider that some people know the identities to secret alts while others don't. Let's say in scum chat the secret alt mentions it off-hand. In a future game, the secret alt is in it with the person who knows the secret alt's identity. Should that person be forced to leave the game? Should he or she reveal the information to everyone? It's certainly not a level playing field.

It's kind of a dicey issue because it is a necessary power to be able to check this kind of thing. I think anyone playing on the admin side should be outright banned from using metagaming arguments that connect a main to an alt if the only reason they know is because they have the administrative power too. If the alt slipped, then it's fair game.

That seems like the closest thing to fair to me?

Absolutely not. Having two accounts in the same game is blatantly cheating.

The thing you're supposed to do is to register 12 alts and all sign up for a mini.

Inception is the birth of an idea I know however common spoken language mistakenly uses it as a thing in a thing. This is because of the film inception with the dream in a dream.
People will know what I mean and language evolves so I'm just doing my part in developing English culture.

Yeah but most of the people that use inception to mean thing within a thing do it because they're too dumb to actually follow the movie. English is already dumb enough. Please don't make it dumber.

I think the issue here is that effective communication requires ease of understanding for both parties; relying on a pop culture reference for something that doesn't have a word already makes sense. Is it not "Inception" as defined in the movie? No. Does it really matter as long as both parties grok your meaning? *shrugs*

So on topic, I don't think I'm a fan of alts. It seems to me that it gives town negative utility by making yourself more difficult to "read" since no one will have experience with you. It's good if you roll scum I guess, but that's about the only good I can think of to make an alt. And I don't want to make another account for the 20% chance of me rolling scum.

If you are making an alt to somehow handicap yourself in order to gain an advantage then you are technically breaking "playing to your win condition" site rules. Its like the people who claim to intentionally play somewhat scummy as town to make it easier to win when they are scum.

I tend to try to play as town whether I'm scum or town. I figure that if I'm actually scum, then I won't look so suspicious if I use the same playing style all the time. However, I was in a game on another site where I was a third party who would win if I was lynched. If that happened to me here, ten I would try to act as scummy as I could so people would lynch me.

If you fake being a hydra when you are not, I don't like you

Its ok to ask someone who they are alt of, but they don't have to tell you. If you abuse your mod powers to look up who an alt belongs to, I don't like you and will never play in a game you mod or let you play a game I mod

You should replace out if you learn who an alt is accidentally, or when everyone else does not know who they are in the game. Unfair advantage is unfair
