I have to wonder what percent of totally blatant slips like this are actually true scum slips and how many are town misspeaking...

I usually look askance at anyone who relies too much on "slips" (you said "it" instead of "we" referring to town!), but I admit if someone made a mistake like that I'd have to lynch them.

Best scumslip ever was at Caffwagon. There were two votes on Patrick, and he got flustered. When asked if he thought either of his attackers were scum, he said no. Yosarian's response was: "So let me get this straight... your opinion is that the ENTIRE town is voting for you in lylo, and scum is refusing to hammer?"

There were a few moments of silence, then Patrick was pretty much autohammered.

Town does it more than scum. Scum takes care to make sure they've said as little as possible that can be attacked or misinterpreted.

Yeah, but town is more concerned with 'saying what I think' than 'saying what won't get me attacked.' It often doesn't occur to them that something they've said can be taken in another way.

Sadly, the worst slips I've seen have been from my own scumbuddies. Miraculously, they both wriggled out of them, but it caused much hyperventilating on my part.

The first was in Mini 926 (A Game of Thrones Mafia). During a mass nameclaim on D1, my scumbuddy inexplicably claimed Sandor Clegane instead of his mod-provided Bran Stark fakeclaim. Not only was Sandor an obv-evil character name, but it was MY real character name! Luckily, I was never killed, because otherwise he'd have been lynched on the spot.

The second was in an alted fast game off-site. Players were assigned alt names of famous demons. I was Astaroth and scum. Partner 1 was Azazel. Partner 2 was Lady GaGa (the mod's idea of a joke).

Lady GaGa attacked Azazel for something minor (I think it was role fishing). When several players called him on not having cast a vote yet, he said, "Okay, VOTE: Astaroth for role-fishing," immediately before heading off until lynch deadline. Cue much "don't you mean Azazel?" from the town. He'd confused his scumbuddies. Luckily, both our names started with A.

But the beautiful part? In his absence, a wagon formed out of the blue on Azazel. But due to the time of the day ending, they were ONE vote short of a lynch, all because of GaGa's slip. Later on, I was vig-killed, and people cleared Lady GaGa because "scum would be extra-careful not to mistakenly vote his own teammate.

Recklessness in this sense is by it's nature a townie attribute because a viable path to victory is ignoring surviva and just being concerned with catching scum, so if you ignore the implications of what you're saying, you're probably town. Scum can't afford to do this cause their wincon is survival.

Heh.

I think the only scumslip I've ever seen was a fakeclaiming JOAT who claimed an Inno on a dead player whose name was abbreviated TL. Somebody asked her about her investigation results on TK (another dead player in the game) and why the "JOAT" chose TK. She responded with a bit of justification, they took a look at the names and noticed she claimed to have investigated two different people, and was lynched before she could justify it.
