Old school to me is JDodge and Mastermind of Sin telling me LRN 2 PLAY NOOB over and over. In nicer words, but the sentiment was definitely there. :)
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

JDodge nicer words? I refuse to believe that.

Join me on my quest to play every NES game! Some of them are awful.

Kuribo's read is foolproof: one night he was high on NyQuil, and he's ancestors reveiled Aureal's alignment to him. - Dessew

I truly sucked beyond the telling of it when I first started playing Mafia. (Yeah, I know, nothing has changed!) I feel like the acknowledged experts back then helped me so much. They were plain-spoken, but I like that personally. And I don't remember a time when they were mean at all, at least to me.

We're talking about JDodge right? He didn't push a policy lynch on you for being new or call you a dumbass or fucking retard? Because that's the JDodge I remember.

No. JDodge yelled at me sometimes when I was being stupid, but I deserved it and I knew it. He didn't call me names or berate me, though. I have delicate baby howler monkey feelings and I would remember that. :)

JDodge was fairly abrasive in my first game with him but he was also fairly textbook-for-the-time scum and I couldn't get him lynched so etc.
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.

that's nothing.

my first game was replacing into a gigantic large theme game. I was scum with MeMe. I claimed SK thinking it meant vig (it was multiball and we were trying to play off the second kill as being a vig)

good times!

My first game, I successfully avoided a D1 lynch as scum, then proceeded to die in 3p LYLO. :(

This was the beginning of my trend of being a lynch target on D1 in almost every single game I've ever played, regardless of alignment. (I am not very good at mafia.)

Remembering the old school kind of makes me want to play/mod again. I miss mafia. If only I had time :(

I feel like I made some fun setups and was at least an ok player, and I had a lot of fun playing/modding. Alas, real jobs.

jdodge1019: vermont is made of liberal freaks and cows
jdodge1019: he's not a liberal
jdodge1019: thus he is a cow

You were so awesome! I still remember The Pine Barrens and how much fun it was :)

You seriously should make a comeback if you get any free time. :)

Also, MOOOOO!

Ah, good times, good times.

(ITT we learn that Mastin is now "old school". :P)

In post 37, zoraster wrote:My first large normal game i played was a Jebus "normal" game.

It featured 20 replacements, a lyncher, a scum mason, a named Vigilante (Batman the Vigilante), a cult with a kill,
oh and featured a mod note about masons:
[Note: If a mason asks about whether or not they can trust their mason partners, the response is "there is no reason not to trust them". This was to help make up for the fact that they were the only non-town constant killing faction in the game.]
I was said lyncher! (To auto-target the cult leader, mind you.)

...I was also lynched D1!

Fun times, indeed.

In post 26, Egg wrote:Did anyone mention deadline hitting and whoever has the most votes veing lynched instead of it being a no lynch?
Plurality lynches still have a place. They're particularly helpful for larges.

Or scum talking by PM rather than QT?
Only in the early-days of my career. I only used PMs once, in what was
technically
my first game, 688. (I don't count it because I replaced out.) We were right in the process of transitioning to QTs, though, and dead QTs came within the next six months. (I forget when, exactly. I believe it was iamausername who started the thread on "Green Rooms", aka Graveyards, AKA what we now know as dead QTs/PTs and it was a fairly new concept to the site where some mods had it but the majority did not.)

Or certain buzzwords actually working as far as making your case look stronger (bandwagoning, vote hopping, fence sitting)?
Nope! Never did.
My academy.
