Roleblocker Resolution

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Thu Mar 05, 2015 4:43 pm

Post by Bullish »

Bullish is back after 5 months to ask a question.

There is a motivator who's effect kicks in the night of.

And there is a town roleblocker.

Say the motivator motivates the roleblocker, but then the roleblocker uses his SECOND RB to RB the motivator.

How would you resolve this?

This seems like poor design.

Well, hopefully this is all pre-game hypothesizing...

But I wouldn't venture to guess that nothing happens. Just the roleblocker's first roleblock happened. Unless you need to work out what trackers/watchers would see.

he'd waste the second RB

the motivate has already resolved, so there's nothing to block

This, you can't block an action that's already resolved to give the player that action.

With the above in mind, if the Motivator was like a Motivator Doctor, the protection would fail.

You have a lot of potential timing issues that seem difficult to resolve.

How do you notify the roleblocker he has a second roleblock? How that works frames a lot of other things -- ie, if motivator A motivates bodyguard B, but is then roleblocked by roleblocker C, is B motivated? Typical resolution would be no, but then you can't tell B he has additional actions until after you've already got all actions. Answer that question and you probably have an answer to your original question.

(On the other hand, you could say the motivator resolves instantly, when you receive it, and it can't be roleblocked / redirected at all.)

You'd have to have a twopart nightphase.

Honestly it'd be better to just have the Motivator take effect next night or submit his ability during the day.
