If all players agree is there anything wrong balance wise with starting day before the deadline?

I always have night last its intended length to avoid the "Bob was viewing the MS. Bob was only person viewing it during the 5 minute night. Rod was killed. Bob is scum and killed Rod" argument. BUT in a scenario where all players have been on and agreed to an early day start, I see nothing wrong with starting it early

I think only way Balance would matter is if there is some crazy mechanic that punished/rewarded players for short nights. Or a mechanic that took advantage or disadvantage of the early day

The way around that is to request that everyone (regardless of role or alignment) sends a PM to the mod. Once you receive a PM from everyone, you can open the thread early.

If all players have agreed, (generally agreeance is done in the fashion KK just mentioned), there's nothing wrong with it.

This includes those that don't have a night action. If even one doesn't agree, keep it to deadline.

In some vanilla games I've seen scum being the only ones with that choice, but the mods then have made sure all players have posted somewhere else onsite. (or otherwise have a visit confirmed)

If scum and all PRs want to end early, mod should end it early. It's on them to decide to run the risk.

This. And when that doesn't happen, don't tell people why it didn't open early, just open it on time and progress.

If the mafia are confirmed to have daytalk, it's fine. If they aren't, ending the night early gives information which can be analyzed to try and figure it out.

If ll roles are in, why bother extending the night? It's slowing down things, and I am not a fan.

say that player A is in the game. Player A is on a trip, completely away from the internet, for 4 days. He leave on his trip 2 days before the hammer vote is cast. All the PRs and scum get their actions in within a day of the hammer vote, and so the next day starts with Player A still missing.

This means that Player A is confirmed to the entire playerlist to not be a power role (and if there's only one non-town left, confirmed to be town).

not to mention that cutting night short also shorts scum time to talk if they don't have daytalk

I have seen this a lot in open setups when there is only one scum remaining. It speeds up stuff alot

Starting a day early unless you have confirmation from all alive players is poor modding.

In Uncouth mafia, all of the factions had daytalk and we had very few power roles. So if everyone agreed, then we started day early.

It becomes problematic in games without daytalk, though. And as a result, you can accidentally give away that part of the setup if it's not already known that daytalk exists in the game.
