Also you don't post every thought you have in thread. A good approach for transparent thought is:

1) Read thread
2) Post responses to individual posts that really stick out
3) Post general summary of thoughts based on the whole of the game.

The general summary should be less than 300 words. If you can't articulate your thoughts in under that word count, you need to learn how to fucking write.

And shit like "I think x might be crumbing y" or any allusion thereof shouldn't be posted, obviously. Town don't necessarily want to post every observation they have.

How is four posts in a row better than a wall post?

I mean, isn't it just one big wall post separated by a bunch of repetitive junk (signatures, red line, date, buttons, etc.)

You might have addressed this, but I bailed after your second post.

That separation is helpful. I'm too buzzed to articulate why right now, so I'll explain later.

i agree with this guy. too much fluff, too little compromising and attempting to forward the game.

~~

imo, spamming increases the chances of catchup-walls or replacements as those lagging behind the game's pace fall back too much. every new player a game gets, the more walls/spamming that will occur. it's in the town's interest to make the game as readable and as even a spread of talking as possible. sometimes that means shutting up and not responding to everything.

the most annoying spamming is multipage 1v1 duels that nobody cares about except those arguing.

In post 118, Wisdom wrote:oor, you could simply post everything unfiltered so I can understand what you are really thinking. This is what town should do, not care about appearences.

I honestly don't understand where this notion comes from. I feel like as either alignment, I will stare at my computer screen for an hour working on a 2-3 sentence post, because I want to be absolutely certain that my meaning gets across as effectively as possible, and I really feel like I'm a terrible communicator.

And so I edit, cut, re-write, revise, reread the initial question to ensure I understand the other persons points, doublecheck my answer to ensure I engaged every bit of the question properly and said what I meant to say, and then finally, after months of deliberation, I finally respond with absolute confidence, "No."

And then as for not caring about appearances, because supposedly "lol if you're town we'll know by what you say", well, every time I take an "I don't give a fuck" attitude to how others read me, I am inevitably read as scum regardless of alignment, and when I take extra care with what I say, I am inevitably read as town regardless of alignment. So I don't even know anymore, man.

Things that annoy me:

"X is scum because I said so" posts.

That's it. No reasoning, no intelligence. Just a thuggish caveman grunt and expectation that the Neanderthals will follow along.

I'm not a fan of walls only because they induce glazing but it's easy to break up walls with numbers, ordered lists, colors, and make them more readable. It also helps if he person in the game who is carefully reading and rereading walls quotes the important part.

There's also fluff. It doesn't add to the game but it's fun to read and doesn't effect alignment much as you can like someone's flavor but still scumread them.

Yep! Sure is!

Having a purpose behind your posting is...kinda the whole point of posting. If you don't have a purpose behind your posting, know what we call that?

(Incidentally, ideally I work to have a balance in posts: I'm not going to cram it all into one or two walls, nor do I try to have it be dozens of posts in a row. I try to have it be a few, shorter, posts. It's the same amount of content as walling/spamming, but with the order of a wall, the transparency of the spam, the readability of the spam, and yet the lack of annoyance of the wall. Best of both worlds when I can pull it off*.)

*Regrettably, CONTRARY to my reputation, I'm closer to the spam than ideal most often. Note how I said that I don't *try* to have dozens of posts in a row.

2 things:

1) scummy definitionally means "behavior that is indicative of scum." Your definition is the "I'm too lazy to change my model" definition that too many people on this site use.

2) Your entire second point is wrong because it's missing the point. Scum, by having more knowledge of the game state, are far more likely to play with specific purpose than town are (i.e., town are probably going at it by saying "i'm going to find scum", whereas scum are going to move past the level of "I'm gonna look like I'm finding scum" to lower-level objectives)

Also, mastin, you're
really
not one to talk about concise posting given that I've made it a game to read your posts and see how I could make them shorter.

believe it or not I have never had a problem with the quantity of your posts! your posts are nearly always game relevant and if you give a fluff response it is contained to 1 or 2 posts and you really don't do this that often as either alignment.

I am talking about 3+ pages that contain little but anime discussions that have nothing to do with the game and when a player has double the amount of the second highest poster.

these are
crimes against mafia
.

I say this knowing that I have been guilty of this. pretty sure mine and thorella's argument over the spelling of occam's razor was pretty dumb and nongame relevant. I think it lasted 10 pages. the argument over light switches with strangerkitty was somehow even dumber. it lasted for I think 5.

Oh. Then I agree. Excessive fluffing is annoying. There are other places to go off-topic, a mafia game isn't one.
