Why isn't the Marathon forum always open?

If it was we would be able to play more types of games. It would also be a fitting forum for newbies to start in.

There isn't the concentration of players needed to run it full time. It works on specific weekends because people can only play then, so interest is increased for a brief period. When you leave it open for extended periods games just never fire. This is experience talking.

This is a bit chicken and the egg though in that we don't have the playerbase for it because it's not a feature that exists. It just kind of requires a critical mass of players to get it started that we lack.

The purpose of the newbie queue is, among others, to get them used to our slower pace. Marathon games wouldn't accomplish that.
