Most people seem to do one at a time for their first two games, steadily load up to like seven or more, then realize they can't handle that and progressively dial it down until they're back to one at a time.
For what it's worth, this also coincides with starting to dislike Mafia and/or moving on from a phase in their life where they have unlimited free time.
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.

Yeah the thing is 1 game of mafia to play correctly (this is i'm assuming for most people) eats away at a person's concentration. It takes so much focus (i'm assuming) to play good for most people.
Once your attention gets more and more divided, you can't spot things that you normally would when you are zoned in.
I think my max at one point was 9. Now I try to stick with 3 or 4 as my max.
It is easy to stay caught up with games that are not the typical "let's race to get 100 pages the fastest on Day 1!"
I really hate that the current trend is to post so much that no one is able to communicate effectively.
4 is my absolute max, more than that and I become super bitchy and that's no fun for anyone
It also depends on what type of games and what is going on in RL. Right now, I have one starting soon and I'm totally cool with that and would possibly take on one more and that's it.
I'd rather take the time to play a game well, than prod dodge or get crabby because I'm taking on too much at once or am too busy in RL.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
I think I was in something like 14 at one stage? And it was fucking crazy.
It depends on the games, really. If I'm invested, I could probably play up to 7 with no problems. But the odds are you won't be invested in them all, and that's where you start to suffer.
"i have the sickest grossest feeling that even if it's my lynch today, my townflip still won't lead to a tso lynch, and then he'll find some bullshit way to reason either shooting or lynching gm tomorrow because if there's anyone who can strongarm a mislynch despite his reads or cases being proved wrong time and again it's tso"
Ideally one. That way I'm giving the game my full attention and playing as optimally as possible. I'll never understand how some people sign up for multiple games and manage to play to any level of depth in all of them. It takes more effort than just keeping up with the game to be truly accurate with reads or make the right moves as scum to get you to endgame. If all you are doing each time you have time for mafia is catching up with the thread from where you last left off, there'll be a lot that you miss or forget. That's part of the reason I hate games where the post count goes up fast. If you are town, instead of spamming, you should be going back to check what you may have missed. I don't mind reading walls of content at all and would much prefer that players condense twenty short one-liners into huge content walls that details all of their thoughts and opinions.
I think I'm getting to a stage where I need minus 3 games to feel happy. The problem is I don't replace out, so I therefore have to play through any out, and I'm therefore not happy at all.
The amount is probably still decreasing, I've had to put a rough estimate into it

*It may be held by someone else if you discount the major downtime in 2012 and 2014, I'm not doing the research.
When I first started, 5-6 was no problem. Now...2-3

"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."
"What? Nothing? You would make the prince suffer over... nothing?"
I can't handle more than 1, typically, and I need a lot of free time just to do 1. A single game can dominate my life sometimes until it's over. (In extreme cases I could probably go to 2, but ideally they'd have no players in common but me.)
One modded + one played is within my abilities, though (again, ideally if I'm not playing with someone and modding for them at the same time).
