not too hard. I'm usually pretty aware of what my townself thinks of the gamestate and how they'd be reacting to things.

as town, I keep track of what my scumself is thinking of the game state and what they're tempted to do and what they're avoiding doing because they'd be trying to act like their townself, and then I look for people who are giving into the temptation.

I don't have a town meta.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Yeah, I'm pretty similar, to be honest.

I don't think I'd have ever been nearly as strong as scum if I hadn't needed to strengthen my Town game hard & early. One of the more interesting side effects of this is that I've basically run through so many theories & perspectives as Town (even though I don't usually share more than a relatively organized version.) that I can basically lean on any of that to do whatever the heck I want to as scum, meta wise. :P

For much the same reasons, I've started using a lot of my scum strategies as Town, just with the purpose of reading people. It can be interesting to see who you can manipulate & who you can't. I won't say it's a blanket way of figuring things out, but on the occasions I've pulled it off, I think there's potential here.

On the contrary! Act as Snidely Whiplash as both alignments, and then put out enough solid content that people have to just deal with it. :P

I see the game as a jigsaw puzzle as town. At the beginning, there's very few pieces of the puzzle available and with very similar structures. I fit them together in a way that looks right, then remake the puzzle with more and elaborate pieces when new concrete info appears that changes how the earlier puzzle fits together. I use PRs to force this along.

I can't replicate this as scum (I rely on my subconscious a lot as town and it's unpredictable at best), so I try to stay out of the direct spotlight and manipulate town into making unsound lynches and taking the fall for them.

I don't play to my town meta. I play to my scum wincon and insist it's my town meta.
dear princess celestia, sometimes it can be hard for a shy pony like me to stand up for myself, and when i first tried it, i didn't like the pony i became. but i've learned that standing up for yourself isn't the same as changing who you are. now i know how to put my hoof down without being unpleasant or mean

Can confirm, acting Grissle Hardman - the Mafia Honey Badger - as either alignment, is a very successful strategy.

A town that analyses my town meta to scumhunt me is bad enough at scumhunting that I should win anyway, making the point moot.

I play to my scum meta so often as town at this point that I don't have a town meta it would make sense for me to play to as scum.

I guess playing to my town meta as scum would look a bit like I was parodying myself, which is probably a good description of how I act outside of mafia too.

It's not hard for me, just act scummy and then I've matched my town meta. I'm good at looking scummy as town which is a blessing when playing with people that know this and a curse with those that don't.

I really worry about folks who play a lot and end up intentionally acting to their scum meta (or intentionally blurring their towngame), as town, to increase their scum winrates or to make it harder to detect them as scum.

Honestly there have been a few games where I expected town I was facing to act as town as fuck -if they were town- but they instead acted (I discovered later) to a more androgynous (phrasing?) meta where it would be extremely difficult to read them either way.

I consider that borderline trust-telling and I don't like it.

It's a weird kind of trust-telling based on the definition. But yeah.

Yeah, my play is so meta-reliant at this point that I find it hard to play with people I haven't played with before.
