This statement is a lie :P

Here's how I used to do it, it's a two step process

1. Is my partner alive?

2. If yes, tunnel him

TIL RC isn't crazy, he's just ahead of the curve.

Also, just to parrot what others said, weigh the pros and cons beforehand, and always be mindful of the long-term effects of your actions. Doing something dumb D1 can screw you and/or your partner for the rest of the game.

You should see my EPM bus in NY184.

We lost a member D1 and I decided to hard bus him D2 to the point of saying that I was going to prod dodge and refuse to post until he got lynched.

I won autoloss :P

Here's a newbie where bussing worked. D1 OceanWind bussed GM and the reason it worked was because he started pushing her early and was early on her wagon and even went so far as to ask me to stay on this wagon when I was wavering.

Like usually D1 lynch on your partner is a bad idea, but this made me pretty confident at the end it wasn't OceanWind so at lylo I didn't vote him and he won.

I still don't think I'd bus my buddy D1 in a newbie like that unless he/she was going down anyway just for the fact you have to get through so many mislynches after that to win but he got himself a ton of towncred for that.

Graveyard shift

Me and DGB bussed Jordan so hard that he was able to coast to endgame while literally taking weeks between posts

I bussed him so hard people legit thought I was just being a dick to pick on him, so when I flipped scum, they all cleared him by virtue of me tunneling him

I mean it's situational, you shouldn't bus if you're in a good position or too early

But you gotta make up your mind early on, otherwise good town players can tell when you're changing your read to follow the wind

your slot's lynch was mainly a combination of my personality and game mechanics. people on the other shift were barely paying attention

I also assumed part of it was just to test my claim and put together concrete evidence against me because I'm nearly impossible to lynch

plus people being morons. mastin wasn't scummy, not really.

Something I've done in the past as scum that's been effective is, after a scumbuddy receives suspicion early and defends themself well enough to cause people to change their mind, to tunnel them even though most of the town incorrectly think they're town. If I get lynched/vigged at that point, there's basically going to be no chance of the buddy in question being suspected from then on and they can coast to endgame on it. This is different from bussing in that I don't expect the lynch on my buddy to go through; effectively, I'm bussing
myself
so that another scum will gain credibility.

I suspect this strategy doesn't work so well nowadays (especially because it may becomes visible as a tell that seems to work quite consistently for me and should be better-known: if someone is ignoring simple explanations for what is happening in the game and focusing on complex ones instead, they are probably correct and probably scum).

It's so much easier to win as mafia when you rule out bussing as a strategy.
