I think the only real way to avoid being lynched when under heavy suspicion as town is to start/continue scumhunting, as well as possible. What can you deduce from people aiming at you? (It's not necessarily the case that they're scum.) You need to be more open when under suspicion, too; say everything you're thinking, talk through your scumhunting processes. This makes it a bit easier for scum to hide, but it's also very hard to pull off as scum, and so it should make you look townier. (You're also likely to make accidental townslips while doing this, which will save you if the town can, or think they can, distinguish them from intentional townslips made by scum.)

I can sortof see why it does. It's usually harder to fake spontaneous emotional posts than it is to use cold logic to fight back as mafia, so it can be easier to identify a townie once AtE starts.

Thanks for giving all this advice guys.

1. Appeal to emotion when suspected.
2. Scum hunt and become more honest, show your reasoning and scum hunting process.
3. Get arrogant/haughty when accused of being scum.
4. If the player accusing you is reasonable, try to compromise/reason with them.
5. Ask them to clarify their argument against you to make sure everyone understands their argument.

Test response to accusation:
LOL. No, I'm clearly town. Are you scum?
What? I'm town, iso me and check again.
Post #2 (if the pressure builds), okay, okay! Can you please clarify: This point, this point, and this point.
post #3 Alright, while I address this accusation, I'm going to remake my case for Player #1 being scum
Post #4 listed reasons player is scum.
Post#5 I think you're a reasonable guy and you have a point, but these points: point 1, point 2, are flimsy and my points are a lot stronger, we can lynch a more probable scum today.
#6 Don't kill me! I have kids to feed!

Is that about right? Thank you very much! :D

It's kindof hard, because if you react by following a list of bulletpoints because we told you to then it might come across as artificial and scummy!

Can you clarify what you mean by that? What's scummy about not wanting to die as town? Meta is a weak tell at best and I'd do it as either alignment. I'm town this game so if you guys don't want to lose, then lynch Leafsfail VOTE: Leafsfail. He's reaching and it's obvious he has nothing of value to contribute! :o

(I'll stop now, thanks again for the advice!).

If you only have a few votes/accusation on you when making those kinds of posts I'd probably actually start suspecting you more than I had beforehand. (I especially hate #1 & #6 as they don't help the game, that's not the right kind of AoE that can work, rather just fluff which never helps)

When you start playing from a script*, others will assume you've taken the part of Dogberry or Polonius. "What's he going to horck up next." If you're reading lines, you lose sincerity.

There was an English Prime Minister who visited a shipyard and extolled the values of shipyards. Pausing in his lubrications of what value the industry was, how ships benefited England, and of the power of the sea, he asked "Now, why am I saying all this?" Someone answered: "Because you're in a shipyard!"

Don't be the Prime Minister. Authenticity is one of a townie's best strengths -- he does not have to lie. He can be reckless in places scum would be cautious.

*This is different from a list of guidelines, which is what you're should (and are) distill(ing).

tl;dr If you'd do it as any alignment, it loses power and becomes more of a null tell.

It isn't the fact that not wanting to die is scummy in of itself, but IMO, it's more of the fact that Scum have more reasons to want to stay alive then town do. Scum are in the Minority and town are majority so the earlier scum die, the harder it is for them to win. Town on the other hand don't necessarily have to worry about survival because their death gives off major information and then there's the fact that, when you die, you're reads are that much more valuable to living players.

what it comes down to is the fact that, Scum have a harder time wining when just one of them dies, while town can lose one or two people and still easily pull through with the win so it's natural for scum to want to survive.

Pretty much what Ms. Marangal said, while there's no reason why town shouldn't not want to die as town, Ideally they should put it as they'd rather lynch someone who they know is scum. I actually find those who are willing to die and very open about it as somewhat scummy or at least anti-town personally. But then that's my view of it.
All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.

I mean, unless you're a PR then that changes everything. other then that though, my life means absolutely nothing in the games.

Wait, no. the willingness to die leans more towards pro-town than anti-town. not the other way around.

Man... I need to start a town school.

The most important aspect of playing town is that you come across as one.

Pretty much, but needs a disclaimer.

Trying to come across as being town will get you lynched and justifiably so, because that's what scum do.
Coming across as being town will make you immune to being lynched nine times out of ten.

Subtle difference, but important one nonetheless.

the best way to come across town is to get drunk and start posting pictures... Oh wait that is what you do after you pull off a successful blitz ;)
