I guess you have to look at how the person's actions are affecting the game state. It's easier once you have flips. Actions that looked townie on day 1 may look scummy on day 4 when you can see how lynches were directed away from a scumbuddy and onto a townie or how they seemed to have a little bit too much information (asking more questions about people's views of the scumbuddy than about anybody else). did they spend all of day 1 assuming townies were scum together with other townies (this is more of a towntell than anything) or did they spend day 1 suggesting that various people were scum together with their scumbuddy.
