Personal attacks will not be tolerated. Use of homophobic, racist, sexist, or any other derogatory slurs falls under this rule. Keep it civil.
Play to your win condition.
Unless otherwise specified in your role PM or by me, you may not communicate outside of this thread while the game is running.
Do not quote or post any screen captures of any private communication to which you have access. This includes game-related PMs, QuickTopics, and instant messaging logs. Paraphrasing is okay.
If it is not visible to the naked eye, do not post it. This includes, but is not limited to: invisible text, tiny text, encrypted text, and text hidden within tags. Spoiler text, however, is allowed, as long as it is used within reason.
If you have the ability to edit your posts, don't use it in my game.
Regular and boldface
dark purple
-colored text are reserved for the moderator. All other formatting is fair game with the provision that you do not impersonate me or post in hidden text, as covered in another rule.
Activity
Prods will be issued to players if they have not posted within a 72-hour period. Players who have been prodded have 48 hours to respond
in the game thread
before a replacement is sought.
Players who have been prodded 3 times are subject to replacement without further notice. After three prods, replacements will happen upon my discretion. Prod timers re-set with each new game Day.
Posting content is an absolute must. If a player posts nothing but prod dodges for an entire game Day, he or she will be subject to replacement upon my discretion.
If you anticipate being away for at least 72 hours, please PM me AND post a V/LA notice in the thread with the expected date of your return.
Pre-Game
During Pre-Game you will receive your role PM. Confirm by PM, as instructed.
Confirmed players will be bolded on the player list. When 8/9 players have confirmed, the game thread will open and Day 1 will begin.
Anyone with a mod-provided QT may discuss in their QT during pre-game until I instruct them not to.
Day
Days will have a fixed deadline of 14 real-time days. Deadline extensions will be granted only in extreme circumstances.
Players may vote to No Lynch; a no lynch will occur if a majority of players vote for no lynch or if no majority is achieved by deadline.
Lynch is achieved by simple majority.
Once majority is reached, no further votes or unvotes will count.
Votes should be on a separate line and flushed left, and MUST be bolded (e.g.,
Vote: Amrun
). The same applies to vote revocations (e.g.,
Unvote
). Unvotes are preferred but not necessary when switching votes (e.g.,
Unvote, Vote: Amrun
). Use of the vote tags (e.g., VOTE: Amrun) is optional. Abbreviations are okay as long as it's clear for whom the vote is made.
If I think it's a vote, it is a vote.
All players, including the lynched player, are allowed to discuss in twilight phase until I post the death scene.
Dead players may make one "Bah!" post that contains no game-related content.
Night
Nights in this game will have a 48 hour deadline, and I reserve as much as 24 hours after that to process action(s) and post the flip.
Players who have a night action to submit must send it in before the announced deadline. I accept provisional actions up until the announced deadline, at which time I will use the last action submitted.
Moderator Actions
Flavor is for entertainment purposes only and has no significance in the game; in fact, this game will have no flavor.
If there is an error in the vote count or something similar, bold your concern in the thread. Please PM me for all other issues.
Violations of these rules will result in consequences. Pretending to violate these rules will also result in consequences. What those consequences are depend on the severity of the action and on the game state.
Any situation not covered above will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
I reserve the right to add, modify, or remove rules as necessary. I will notify you of all changes in the thread.
Please PM me if you need clarification on anything in the rules.
Here is an example of a town role that may or may not appear in the game:
You are a
Vanilla Townie
.
You possess no special abilities besides your vote.
Win Condition:
You win when all scum have been eliminated and at least one Townsperson remains alive.
Confirmation:
The game thread will open once 8/9 players have confirmed. Please confirm by paraphrasing your role to me via PM.

Set Up:
Mafia:
1 Mafia Roleblocker
1 Mafia Framer
Town:
1 Cop
1 Bodyguard
5 VTs
This set-up was swingy in the way that all 9 player set-ups are swingy; if no scum get lynched, then it swings to scum, and if a scum gets lynched, it swings to scum. But I wanted to do a smaller game with a simple set-up that had power roles in an appealing combination that allowed for manipulation by day play and by scum night play.

You win when all scum have been eliminated, and at least one Townsperson remains alive.
Confirmation:

You are a
Mafia Framer
.
Besides your ability to vote, you also possess the ability to frame another player. If this person is investigated, he or she will appear guilty to all potential investigative roles.
You, along with Junpei, possess a factional kill ability. You may not frame someone and make a kill during the same night unless you are the last person that remains on your team.
Communication:
You may talk to your partner, Junpei, during nights and pre-game here.
Win Condition:
You win when the Mafia makes up half of the Town (or nothing can prevent the same), and at least one Mafiate remains alive.

Besides your ability to vote, you also possess the ability to roleblock a player. If successful, your target will be unable to perform any night actions.

Overall, I hoped to see more insightful day play and was disappointed by the day 1 mass claim, though I don't fault any players for participating. It actually WAS a good strategy for town, and it is the fault of me and my reviewers for not mass claim proofing the set-up (though I usually do this, actually). I mean, it was in the sense that mass claiming didn't break the game by any stretch, but it did swing the favor to town a bit and it decreased the fun of the game.
There were too many replacements for poor reasons this game and that disappointed me as well. HOWEVER, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT DLG WAS REPLACED DUE TO MOD ERROR AND HE SHOULD NOT BE BLAMED AS IT WAS NOT HIS FAULT.
I hope you all enjoyed the game in some way and I am open to any sort of constructive criticism.

Well, I had several reviewers who all declared it reasonably balanced - and to be honest, I originally had only a framer, and there was a long, complicated discussion in which the conclusion was that adding a role blocker made it less swingy.
I think I regret that decision, now. I like it better with just the framer.
And for a frame of reference, beyond my personal reviews, the normal board declared it balanced.

I like the JOAT idea.
I don't think goon balances Cop+VT, though. I really disagree about that. Cop on its own in that situation is too much. That's kind of what I was playing off of, though - I wanted people to think the BG was to prevent follow the cop and then be foiled by the framer. So, I do wish I had just omitted the framer or made it a joat.
But still, in the review process, I was very specific about pursuing balance, and asked everyone who reviewed what would make it more balanced and no one had any suggestions and said it was fine, though somewhere along the line the RB was added in the pursuit of balance.

Rainbow - honestly, I asked every single reviewer if there was something I could change to make it more balanced and they said no. I think, seeing it run, that I would do it differently if I were to do it again, though.

Yeah, there's being assessed and there's being a dick, and you cross the line. Please keep this civil. You have not mastered the art of constructive criticism.
