The Rules:
(A blend of scum´s finest.)
  • Nights will last around 48 hours or so. If night choices come in earlier, it will dawn earlier.
  • Days will last as long as they need to. If discussion lags, I will impose a deadline. If discussion picks up, the deadline will be rescinded.
  • Votes must be in
    bold
    . If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted.
  • Please be attentive and unvote, before casting a new vote. I’d appreciate it.
  • Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded.
  • You may
    vote: no lynch
    – majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.
  • The game is not to be discussed outside of the thread unless your role specifically states that you may do so.
  • Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. Stop typing.
  • Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts
  • Don’t quote any messages from me. You are liable to get mod-killed if you do.
  • If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice to me I will make a choice for you, which might result you being quite unhappy
  • If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
  • I should post a vote count, ever so often, maybe every page or every alternate one. Please feel free to request one should you deem it necessary.
  • If you have any questions, you can pm me or ask in the thread. I'll get back to you as soon as possible, and with the best explanation that I can. You can also pm me if you want to tell someone about your day, or you thought something another player wrote was funny, or just to say hi. :D
  • I am always right, but not always accurate. If I've made a mistake, please tell my by email as soon as possible. If you try to notify me in thread, I'll have to to edit your post and you will most likely be mod-killed.
  • If I'm going to be unavailable for more than a day, I'll post that information
  • Most importantly...this is a game and we're here to have fun. Do your part.
Your happiness is intertwined with your outlook on life.

The last remaining person, please humour me and confirm. You know who you are. ;)

Let's get those choices in.

I would not read too much into these flavour posts. Just trying to set the mood and get rid of boredom.
All confirms in. Waiting on a few choices. 9 a.m. GMT or bust! ;)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just on the edge of Sidmouth, a couple finishes high tea (a tad late) - Tea, crumpets and scones. Yum!
The lady goes to the proprietress to settle the bill as the gentleman goes out and winds up the car.
-x-
A petite, pretty young woman gets off at the railway station - overnight bag in one hand, a small dog in the other. A sophisticated hat perched at a jaunty angle on her head.
From another carriage, a rather unimpressive young man, tall and gangly gets out as well, in the midst of rural pandemoniun - a farmer lady, just back from the market town with a whole flock of chickens.
-x-
Just as the passengers come out of the train station, a yellow car zooms past them, with the radio blaring. The young lady lets out a screech as some water from a puddle gets splashed on her skirt.
A sympathetic couple in another car stop and ask if she needs help.
-x-
At the top of the hill, a knocker goes "RAT-A-TAT-TAT!"
The door opens to show a butler in all his trappings.
"Yes?"
"I'm here for the reading of the will." She holds out the invitation letter.
'But ofcourse miss. Come right in. May I take your coat?"
The yellow car zooms up the driveway and screeches to a halt on the asphalt in front of the door.
The young man shouts,
'Yo Jeeves! Where can I park my rod?"
All good butlers are trained to show no emotion and this one is no exception but just for a second, there is the faintest glimmer of dislike on his face...
The guests have started arriving.
"DONG!!!" booms the gong and the guests file down to the landing.
"Dinner, is served."
And the butler opens the doors to the dining room.
And now since the narrator of this story has to go to bed, please help yourselves to after dinner mints and drinks and have a good night.
We shall meet again tomorrow - bright and early. :)
8.40 a.m.
"RAT-A-TAT TAT!"
A wizened and tired looking man stands at the door, warming his hands in the sudden chill. A muffler drawn around his neck to keep out the chills, he wears a Bowler hat.
"Good Morning Sir. I see you arrived well in time.
Let me take your coat.
Would you like some tea? Breakfast is arranged in the dining room."
"Tea would suit me admirably, my good man. Thank you very much."
-x-
8.55 a.m.
The old gentleman beckons the butler.
"It's time to get on with business. Would you please assemble the guests in your master's study?"
"Certainly Sir"
The gong booms once again.
-x-
9.01 a.m
The beneficiaries start trickling in to the study. Eager, anticipatory looks, mingled with the proper mourning façade are seen on all the countenances. A couple of them seem proprely solemn though.
-x-
9.07 a.m.
The solicitor mumbles to himself, "No one has any sense of puntuality these days. Whatever happened to 9 o'clock sharp?"
Aloud, he asks, 'Who're we missing?"
"It seems the young doctor has overslept Sir. With the morning duties, I never quite noticed. I'll go get him right away."
Again the gentleman mumbles, "A good butler should never provide excuses..."
-x-
9.13 a.m.
The butler returns.
'I tried knocking Sir, but there was no answer. Even banging on the door seems to have no effect." he says, worried.
"Alright!" says the local inspector, "Let's go wake him up properly shall we?"
They leave
-x-
9.19 a.m
The butler returns ashen-faced
"We had to force the door in. He was sleeping almost like a baby.
But his face...Oh!
The inspector is checking on him."
~General confusion and chatter~
-x-
9.40 a.m
"Alright chaps! I've just gotten off the phone with the Coroner, he's coming up right away. Looks like Doc Kent's been poisoned. Everyone in this house from last night is a suspect."
~collective gasp~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Doctor Mgm overslept and the reading of the Will will have to be postponed. However, a murder investigation will follow now.

It is day one. Eleven people are still in the house (the lawyer, not a suspect, left for London, promising to return at the earliest.) and that makes it 6 to lynch.

We pick up from where left off.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~collective gasp~
"Avenge meeeeeee!" a voice moaned as the table shook a bit, the glasses quivered and the lights flickered.
~another bigger, more collective gasp~
Talitha was the first to speak up. "I think it's the spirit of Mgm. I felt a protective aura around me last night. Maybe it was him."
"Praised be!" said Thoth, "Looks like she was doing his duty till the last. And successfully too."
Suddenly, Thoth turned a distinct color of green and his eyes glazed over.
A voice in his head says,
"I'm the young, handsome Dr. Phillip Kent, thank you. And that implies I am male. Last I checked, I was too. Then again, who knows who or what ghosts are. Still, I prefer to be addressed as 'he'. Remember that or I'll haunt you."
A naughty giggle is heard somewhere. Everyone wonders if there are more spirits wandering about the place. A shiver passes through everyone.
Eventually, people start to recover. There is a babble of noises. Accusations start being flung everywhere.
Thoth is under fire initially and there is some talk of him being strung up on principle for being chauvinistic but the ladies present are darlings and don't quite go along with the threat.
Rick and Talitha exchange a few jabs on the basis of each other's beady eyes.
Finally, mole, who seems to have gone underground, is bandwagonned and dug up from under the chair where he has been hiding since the table shook.
Mole sputters something about a town of moles and living in harmony and more idealistic crap like that. He is let off for the moment as the attention turns back to Rick and his beady eye. Having gotten over the initial shock of the death and the paranormal visit, Rick seems to have developed an appetite and he's wolfing down bacon and eggs and is not quite attentive to what's happening around him and the lynch mob thats forming.
Finally, mole gathers up a bit of courage and some wits about him.
"Talitha did it!" he says.
"Wha?!" she exclaims, "That's tright. Blame it on me. The oldest cliché in the book. The butler did it! :roll:
But you know what? I believe you, even though your name does not inspire much confidence, you harlequin. Why? Because of the way you phrased your result. I'm a snoop too. And Thoth is guilty."
And so began a daisy chain of snoops "pointing" fingers at others.
Funnily enough, the cookie monster intervenes and starts the kiddie game of who stole the cookies from the cookie jar. It just sums it all up doesn't it?
Once upon a time, there was a jar full of cookies. One day, the mod went to get a cookie and they were all gone. He wondered....
Image
Who took the cookies from the cookie jar?
Tally took the cookies from the cookie jar.
Who me? Yes you.
Couldn't be. Then who?
I think Thothie took the cookies from the cookie jar.
Image
Thoth said, "Me too, me too!. Tigris is evil. She's a thorn in our sides!"
Quailman, who had always been suspicious of Rick's discreet activities, waited eagerly to see if Tigris had found women's underwear in a 42 long in his baggage. Now one wonders if Quail was at all suspicious or he was planting evidence, or he was just looking to swipe some soft knickers. Let's not dwell on that, because unfortunately, Tigris had visited Nori, who was guilty as hell...er...as well. "And no," added Tigris, "I'm no thorn in your side. The name's Thorne, Rose Thorne."
Ever the serious one, Nori refused to play the cookie game.
("Aww!" moan the kiddies.)
He said he was no investigator and was sure that they'd find scum somewhere in the daisy chain.
And so, the hunt began. It was rather slow going but eventually, the group circled around for the kill. The target: Tigris.
She was put into the care of the local police on charges of suspected homicide. On searching her room, they found nothing really incriminating. Just a few mystery novels, the regular make up kit, a few fashionable clothes and a hat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tigris Thorne, has been deposited into the custody of the local police precinct.

It is now night 2. Please get in your choices by 8 am GMT on the 21st - which is a Thursday.

Please note: Dawn is unlikely to occur at deadline. It will occur a few hours later but choices sent in after deadline will be ignored.

Alarm clocks.

Useful things.
Annoying at the same time.
How I hate that shrill noise they make. Don't you?
How satisfying it is, to shut the bell with a resounding thud on the clock's top. Isn't it?

Well, a couple of the guests staying at Green Oaks *had* requested alarm clocks but not all. And they certainly did not intend to be woken at 6 in the morning. But that is what happened.

The French maid, Jeanette, with the high hemline and low neckline screamed:
"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!"

And the guests sat up, groggily, wondering what happened.

She fainted:
THUD!

And everyone was awake, almost certain that they knew what had happened. There was something in the atmosphere of the house...

The whole household raced in the direction in which the screaming had come. They found the butler, trying to get the maid to be coherent but she was babbling in a stream of French. They understood why she was like that, the moment they looked at the bed.

Halloween was experiencing growing popularity and was coming close. But it was still over a month away and the state of Fishbulb's head, definitely did not look like a child's gag. For one thing...the knife *did* go entirely though...

Image

~collective gasp~

Fishbulb Hunter is having a rather splitting headache, I would think. Don't count on him joining us any further.

The crowd jeers and pelts the mod with rotten tomatoes for the poor pun.
The mod scurries off stage.

I'm not really interested in replacing anyone anymore in this game.

A) It's invitational.
B) Replacing draws from my next pool of players. :P

Yoko's was a long term withdrawal.
Yours isn't.

You sound unsure yourself - If you want totally out, you shall be replaced.

Would the players consider putting the game on hold till Thoth returns?

British Summer Time must've switched on.
After a looooooong day of discussion and paranoia, Thoth is finally pronounced as "guilty" by the public.
He's taken for a swim in the pool and true to mafia tradition, and in some weird form of poetic justice, he's given cement shoes to wear.
Well, even the deep end of the pool is not enough to drown the tall young man but once put in, you see blood colouring the water.
Having inflicted no physical injury on Thoth, you wonder what's up.
You find him carrying a knife that was previously bloodstained....
Silly to carry something so incriminating around, eh?
Or is it...?

Thoth "Summer" Summers has been cast out of the mansion and now soaks in the pool

It is Night 3. Please have choice in by

Servants should never try to rise above their stations.
And for most of the time, Hamworth never did.
But let leftovers be. However delicious they might look or be.
Especially when you eat the food made for the guests and are not used to it, you pay. It was too rich compared to the regular food Hamworth ate.
Why do you think they put signs in the zoos saying: "Please do not feed the animals"?
'Tis because they are not supposed to consume processed foods and might die. Just like Hamworth did.

Talitha the Butler is found dead by the recurring cast member - the French maid with the high hemline and low neckline. Her screams were your alarm again. Sacré Bleu!

Well, I had a nice scene all ready in my head for here but things happened and I never got around to posting it. I tried again, more things happened and when I tried for the third time, all choices were in.

So, I shall have a case of blue brains and announce that Quailman is no more with us.

After a short amount of discussion, the family decides to summarily dismiss the Cook.
Wait. Wasn't she the maid?
Well no. Remember the maid is French.
Ms. Malone? Ugh! Not French.
But wait. It's a big house. It can have multiple maids, no?
Yes. But no. Cook. ok?
OK.

Everyone's famished but there's no cook or butler to serve up anything anymore.
You rummage.
Ooh! Cookie made some cookies before we fired her.
Yum!
WAIT!
The doctor and Hamworth got poisoned. Remember?
Ugh!
Feed the dog.
The beast dies.
You beasts!
Ah well.
Off to the local pub we go.

Mrs. Moone the cook has been fired.
It is night 5. Please get in choices ASAP. If they take too long, I will institute a deadline.

And so falls the curtain on this little presentation.
Abruptly, you say?

Well, isn't that the intrigue?
How many times have you felt something should've ended at the twist than the sappy happy ending?

Make your own ending, audience...who won?

One week later:

RAT-A-TAT-TAT!

"Ah! Good morning Mr. Grabbit. Do come in. You're nice and punctual as usual. Would you like to join us at breakfast?"

"Good morning Master Quinn. No thank you. You see, I have some business to attend to in London this afternoon, and I must runn - as soon as we're done with the formalities here."

"But ofcourse! Let's go to the study right away. "

"I believe last week's reading was satisfactory? Ghastly business all that."

"Hmm. True, true. But with all that happened and me being the only one left, there were no hassles, eh?"

"Quite."

"Oh and as to my own will, I'm leaving all I have to Jean..."

"Tut tut, Master Quinn! Let's not be indiscrete, shall we? Walls have ears and doors eyes. Let's go to your study and we'll put things in order."

"Mais oui! Why not? By the way, did you hear? We're going to Aruba for the honeymoon."

The Cast:

Everyone, take a bow. Thank you all for playing.

Dame Phoebe Hunter - Already deceased rich old woman and convenient alter ego of the mod.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fishbulb
-
Paul Hunter
- the young charming jackanapes of a grandson with the fast car.
Kerplunk
-
Mrs. Moone
- the cook, a middle aged spinster, looking for love. Falls for the charmer and becomes his partner in crime.
Mafia team one. They could only kill on odd nights only. Were not aware of this, unless deduced.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Stewie
(big_kahunia/Yoko Kurama)
-
Ray Summers

Thoth
-
Summer Summers

The greedy siblings. Grandchildren on the daughter's side.

Mafia team two. They could only kill on even nights. Were not aware of this, unless deduced.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
mole
-
Harley Quinn
- the Godson. Fairly nice chap with a good heart but of the nosy sort.
Insane cop. Could check someone's room per night and would be told if they appeared innoncent or guilty.
Tigris
-
Rose Thorne
- The nosy niece. Fairly a gold digger but with so few relations, what can one do?
Insane cop. Could check someone's room per night and would be told if they appeared innoncent or guilty.
Talitha
-
Hamworth
- The butler. Fiercely loyal and with access to all the house.
Paranoid cop. Was told she could snoop in someone's room within 12 hours of the night scene. The time limit was something I cooked up while I was writing the PM. The flavour mentioned the butler snooping but a good butler would never do that. So, between dinner and drinks, she could snoop through stuff. Got a guilty result every time. Paranoid due to intense loyalty to dead mistress and was sure everyone was a gold digger.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mgm
-
Doctor Kent
- Local MD and the Dame's doctor.
Was a beneficiary and tried to do his duty at the same time.

Regular doctor

Norinel
-
Nurse White
- Basically an attendant and trained in first aid an such.

Doctor with 50% (coin flip) chance of success

Candice
-
Little Tommy
- Orphaned by the war, adopted by the old lady.

Spook.
Great ambitions about becoming a doctor, but one can't do much at the age of 10, eh? Everyone used to play along in his games though and he believed in himself. The games continued even after the old lady died.

Incompetent but would be told she protected her target successfully and the target is told they survived an attack.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JereIC
(Rick)
-
Inspector Black
- Local Inspector
Townie.
Red herring as far as claiming was concerned.
Quailman
-
Diana Hunter
- granddaughter
Townie. Dutiful grandchild. Not necessarily doting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And there you have it.
Thanks to MeMe for having gone over the setup once.
I hope you enjoyed it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first half with the daisy chain and also enjoyed making the names up. Cookies for anyone who guesses the underlying theme with the majority of the names.
And I had mentioned not to go too deep into flavour. The role claims were...interesting.
Thank you all again.

Comments? Suggestions? Brickbats? Bouquets?
All welcome.

Next stop: The honeymoon cruise.
