Everyone is dead.

The Captain understood that sending us to this planet was a risk, but I doubt even he knew just how dangerous it is down here. Looking back, I can see just how unprepared we were. From the losses we could not prevent, to the men we knowingly sent to their deaths, this mission has been drowned in blood from the start. The foul stench of it all bothered me once, but I'm not even sure the murder was wrong any more.

All I know is that something has been stalking us. Something that can take on the faces of the people it kills. It has waited in ambush for us at every turn, as though it knew exactly what we would do and when we would do it. The documents Grant uncovered spoke about beings that exist outside of time; we believed it to be hypothetical. Could it have been talking about these creatures after all?

Either way, I must warn everybody – no one can be trusted.

But to do that, I'll need access to the research station's mainframe. We finally managed to get it working yesterday, but only briefly before it was destroyed in the struggle. I have no choice; I will have to travel into the past for the third time.

The Temporal Gateways are unstable, and no doubt I will perish in the process, but if I die here, then I condemn humanity. If I can send these logs back to when we first landed, we might just have a fighting chance.

This will be my last entry as Acting Commander of the Starship Aviary.

On Chain of Command

• 1. Your Managing Officer of Directives (or MOD), here defined as
  AurorusVox
  , is to have the final say in any form of dispute.
  2. Although you pledge blind allegiance to your MOD, he is not infallible. If you feel an issue requires attention, communicate this privately to the MOD.
  3. The MOD uses
  Korvian Corp Purple (#8800BF)
  to communicate official information. Do NOT use this colour. This is a courtmarshallable offence.
  4. All mission-related communication between the MOD and recruits STAY between the MOD and the recruits. Breaking private communicative channels is a courtmarshallable offence.
  5. All mission-related communication between recruits STAY in the official Korvian Affiliated thread
  unless given explicit permission by your MOD
  . Talking about the mission outside of the Official Korvian thread without the MOD's approval is a courtmarshallable offense.
  6. Falsifying the MOD is a courtmarshallable offense. Your MOD is the judge of whether he has been falsified or not.
  7. Small or invisible text as a secret communication is disallowed.
  Cryptography is also disallowed.
  
  8. Taking advantage of loopholes is dishonourable. Courtmarshalling may ensue.
  9. Courtmarshalls force resignation from the EUAN Galactic Starfleet, and a recruit will be forever branded as a Neutral Survivor. They will then be put to death, losing the game.

On Expectations of Presence

• 1. You should aim to communicate at least once a day.
  2. Shore Leaves are to be announced to the MOD.
  3. Recruits who do not communicate within
  48 hours
  will be declared AWOL, and a search party will be dispatched. Recruits have 24 hours to reveal themselves to a search party, or they will be announced MIA and replaced. Players may request search parties for specific recruits via a bolded communication in thread.
  4. A 'three strikes and you're out' rule on going AWOL and replacements is enforced. That is, if you are declared AWOL three times, we will be forced to resign your commision.
  5. This mission has a
  two week deadline
  at the beginning of each game day.
  6. Accusations of Treachery (here defined as Votes and Unvotes) may be done either by bolding your Votes or using official Korvian Vote tags. For the sake of clarity, Usernames may be shortened but it must be easily discernible. Example: VOTE: AV. Ambiguous Accusations of Treachery will be ignored.
  7. Retractions of Accusations (Unvotes) are not required.
  8. Although your MOD is in charge of your regiment, he is a democratic man and will publicly Lynch a recruit if a majority (half the number of living recruits +1) vote for bloodshed.
  9. A Cease Fire (here defined as a "No Lynch") needs only 50% of the Votes.
  10. A No Lynch will happen at mission deadline should a full majority not be reached.
  11. Once you're dead, please don't post
  unless explicitly allowed by the MOD
  . Korvian Corp does not take kindly to zombies.
  12. The Lynched may give their last words during Twilight (ie. before the MOD puts you to death).
  13. Remember recruit, you are the best Earth has to offer! You should aim to win!

Korvian Corp. Time Travelling Documentation

Timelines

1) During the pre-game phase, the Alien faction will create the original timeline, dictating who is alive at the start of each day phase by removing pairs of players.

a. The timeline will extend to a feasible LYLO situation, i.e. at no point can scum dictate a timeline in which they outnumber town, or in which all scum are eradicated.
b. This timeline will be undisclosed to the town.

2) Lynches that go against the current timeline will create a paradox (see below). In the event of a paradox-creating lynch, a new timeline will be created in one of two ways:

a. In the event of a mislynch or a no lynch, the Alien faction will create a new timeline
b. In the event of a lynch on an Alien, a new timeline will be created by the player who cast the hammer vote.
c. In the event of a self-hammer by an Alien, the new timeline will be created by the player who placed the L-1 vote.

3) The Aliens are bound by their temporality, and must therefore adhere to the current timeline where possible when deciding their kills.

a. This means that the Aliens cannot kill a player who should be alive in the following day phase, according to the current timeline.
b. This rule can be circumvented by paradoxes (see below)

Time Travel

1) Each day, players have the option of sending one person through a Temporal Gate into a future day phase of their choice.

a. Players wishing to travel to the future should post

Travel to Day X

in-thread.
b. That player will be told who is still alive according to the current timeline.
c. This information will be privately communicated by the mod.
d. Players are allowed to share any information they gain, but may not quote mod communications.
e. Players travelling to a dayphase in which they themselves are dead will create a paradox (see below).
f. Unsuccessful attempts to travel will be privately communicated by the mod.

2) Temporal Gates disrupt the cybernetic implants fitted onto certain roles. This will reduce the number of times a player can go through the Gate.

a. No Cybernetic Implants - allows unlimited travel via Temporal Gates.
b. Mild Cybernetic Implants - allows player to travel twice through Temporal Gates over the course of the game.
c. Major Cybernetic Implants - allows player to travel once through Temporal Gates over the course of the game.
d. Robotic players cannot travel through Temporal Gates at all.
e. Players who attempt to use the Temporal Gates, but are unable to due to cybernetics, will use up the charge of the Gate.

Paradoxes

1) The Aliens are allowed to make one kill per night.

a. They must use one paradox in order to make a kill that follows the current timeline.
b. They can spend two paradoxes to make a kill that breaks the current timeline. Please note that this action will not create additional paradoxes.
c. In the event that Aliens are forced to kill a member of their own faction according to the timeline, they can choose to spend one paradox to perform No Kill.

That little bastard thought he could charm his way into the future, even though MY contribution had been far superior! Well, I didn't care to stand upon ceremony. I simply shouted my intentions clear for all to hear as I ran into the temporal field. Well, that was two hours...or rather, two weeks ago. Now I just need to figure out where I am.

Goddamnit. The mainframe was active for two or three seconds before it blew. Grant is dead and I was almost blinded by the flare.

This was our last hope. Even if we were to use the Gateways, we have nothing of value to share. Absolutely nothing. I am this close to shutting down the Gateways entirely. But I suppose even betting on a miracle is better than no chance at all.

All that's left to do is to organise the documents Grant found before he died. Perhaps if someone else comes to the planet in another 300 years, they will prove useful.

We have touched down on Gaea Prime. Three of the crew died on the descent, two from the virus. Ensign Kendricks hanged herself.

Everyone is on edge. The stories of this place were always the more frightening for their ambiguity; the reports were, regretably, highly classified. The planet has taken on an almost mythical status; like an abandoned old house at the end of a street, it was the subject of many terrifying night-time stories for those of us living out our childhood in space. Man-eating vegetation, spectres of the lost scientists, temporal novas that aged you instantly - outrageous as each invented horror was, it gives this place an unsettling familiarity. I can't be help feel that I have been here before...

Regardless, I had to send some of the crew to explore the surrounding area. Those that stayed behind set up our equipment. It was at this moment that some of the fear that had been brewing in my stomach was legitimised. As soon as our radio was operational, we received a transmission. It was my voice.

The message lasted only a few seconds, but the desperation in my voice was clear. I had sent myself a warning from the future; that within a week, we would all be dead. That our foes could masquerade as the very people they were trying to kill. That if we did not act now, humanity would be doomed. The crew looked between me and the radio in astonishment, in fear. The final words before the transmission cut out echoed in my mind;

Mod, does this mean that if the Aliens try to kill a player who is not supposed to die that night because of a Town Player creating the timeline that the person chosen to be killed will not die? Or does this mean that if two paradoxes are available, both will be used up automatically? What if the team only has one paradox at this time?

The Aliens will be told how timelines created by town play out, so they will know in advance whether their chosen NK is "due" to die or not. Regular paradox rules apply to this kill.

The message we received earlier today startled most of the crew. I had to be decisive; I issued orders that no one should leave the camp site unless given strict instructions to do so. Nevertheless, I can already see the seeds of suspicion in the narrowing eyes of the crew. The slightest thing - a comment or action - may now be enough to tip the balance. I must remain vigilant.

It was thanks to this parasitic neurosis that I had to, with heavy heart, decommission Lance. His indifference to the message we had received was not helping matters, and as he went about his tasks with his normal efficiency, the mutterings of the crew became increasingly suspicious. The very people who had helped to give him his name were now wondering - aloud! - if this was to be a repeat of the London Crises. Some of the crew even spoke to me about their concerns - asking how we knew that the problems with AI had not been lying dormant all this time, if I was certain that Lance's line had been completely fault free. One even suggested an EMP.

Lance was oblivious to this of course.

Then there was the moment that left me with no choice.

Until then, I had thought that maybe we could calm things down, that these were natural fears of a people who had just been shown their own death warrant. That just because Lance was different, he was the easy target to blame. But when his sensors rolled over the huge, half-submerged ring-like structure - the Gate - there was no saving him.

The great machine groaned to life. Lights blitzed across it's surface, coruscating light that meandered and rippled in a transparent sea of green. It inhaled a deep breath, ready to rend the fabric of time and space, and for all we knew, beam the whole planet to God knows where...

The machine sputtered and died. It's lights dimmed, it's rumblings ceased. In place, a roar tongues.

"That robot tried to kill us!"
"Who knows what that machine does?!"
"Has he just broken the Gate? That was our ticket to freedom!"

I stood up, heart heavy with despair. Lance trundled onwards, not understanding the gravity of the situation. I know he was just trying to figure out how things worked: I later found the details on his home hub. The machine reacted to his electronics, short-circuiting since it was never meant for that degree of technology.

But by then it was too late. I had already pulled the plug.

The message did not lie.

We awoke this morning to the sight of Grant's corpse. It lay in a pool of his blood, throat ripped and body mutilated. Whatever is hunting us is

smart

- he was our Doctor, one of the few men in whom I placed an absolute trust. I know I sounded desperate in the message, but there is simply no way Grant would ever have harmed one of us...

He was close to finding a cure for our disease. Maybe the hunters knew that too. Maybe that was why they killed him - what do they want? To eradicate humanity? To watch as our life drains away in the face of this damned disease?!

I...I'm sorry. I should keep my composure. I'm in charge, I can't show that this is getting to me. Finding a dead body was bad enough, but I can't afford to let chaos break out. We can do this rationally, logically. The scans Lance took yesterday showed that there are no new signs of life on this planet. That would make sense; the warning I sent myself from the future suggested that these things masqueraded as the crew. We will need to root them out and isolate them until we can figure out what the hell is going on here.

Grant, God rest his soul, may have given us a clue. Yesterday he had uncovered documents that he said may have held the key to our salvation. These documents detailed the proper usage of the Temporal Gates. Hopefully, with this information to hand, we will at least be able to fight back.

But this is not the end of our problems. Roughly an hour ago, sensors picked up an incredibly fast-growing mass of dense time-space distortion, emanating from deep within the core of the planet. The entire land now smoulders with a great energy. Something is happening to this place; signals are going haywire. It seems that time is passing at an increased rate.

We really do not have long left.

What have we done?

I can barely speak. I don't care. Fuck protocol. I opened a bottle of Strength 6 and have been sat here in my cabin, drowning in self pity. I don't know why I'm recording this, it will probably get me court-marshalled. Although that's not really a threat anymore, since the world went bye-bye.

I mean, no. I do know why I'm recording this. I don't know how else to say this. They killed Angela.

They rounded on her almost immediately. She had blood on her back, for crying out loud. Yes I know, the tape could have been from anywhere. But there is more evidence, I'm not going to bore you, all you need to know really is that we are sending cards, flowers and so forth.

What pains me most of all is that they were

right

. I don't know how I'm going to control them in the future now, this is going to open the way for a hell of a lot more bloodshed. They surrounded her - six of them! - and beat on her until she was lying in a puddle of her own blood. Except goddamnit it wasn't her blood. You'll call me crazy but the evidence is right there. She was hosting some kind of horrendous alien-like creature within her.

Wow. When I say it out loud it sounds ridiculous, the sort of stories we'd tell little children. "Brush your teeth Roger, or the alien will burrow into your stomach and assimilate itself with your nervous system, rendering your body useless independently and pushing it beyond your own control. Good night!"

Christ. I shouldn't trivialise this. We committed murder. Can murdering someone - someone who may have been in immense pain without the ability to communicate it? - can it ever be right? What world are we fighting to rebuild when we turn on each other? I mean yes, we killed that creature in the process. But at what cost? Angela had a promising future ahead of her. And now she's fucking dead.

I can't do this any more. I need another drink. Captain out.

There is no shame in admitting that I lost it a little yesterday.

Listening to my logs back...I understand that I will never again be allowed to command a StarShip, but murdering one of my own was unbearable. All that remains is to root out the rest of these creatures, and hope that we can resolve matters peacefully. I'm not too sure how achievable that is, not after what happened to Irena overnight.

She may not have made many friends aboard the ship, but no one would have wished this upon her.

I found her strung up on a pylon. Whoever - whatever - did this, they're sick, twisted, and clearly dangerous. Her body had been torn all over, deep gashes running across her face, arms and torso. Her body below the abdomen is missing, and a pool of blood was coagulating at the base of the pylon. It pains me to say that she had obviously been alive when she was first put up there.

It will hit the crew hard. There were those who thought that perhaps we had struck a blow against our enemy, that with one of their own captured...I don't know, they might have weakened, faltered for a moment...instead, it just seems to have fuelled them on to more brutality.

I could not save her, but I will save the others. I don't want to see any more bloodshed, but a part of me knows that it is inevitable. I have to be careful that it does not spiral out of control: there is no saying the crew won't turn on me if I take an approach too draconian or too lenient. Perhaps if we talk matters over, we might just make sense of this mess.

I should also note the growing anomalies in the system. Our sensors have been on the brink, and now our scanners are starting to deteriorate too. I am ashamed to admit that part of me wishes Irena were here solely to help fix the scanners - she knew their working inside and out. As it stands, we'll be in the dark for a while.

Mod: Can you update the rules with the correct ruling?

There's nothing incorrect in the rules. If there are no deaths according to the timeline, scum would spend their single paradox to fulfil the no kill; and if someone is due to die according to the timeline, a no kill is an "off-timeline" kill and will cost the standard 2 paradox for altering it.

Today has not been easy. The accusations have been flying full force, with the whole day spent on the brink of violence. I can hardly keep track of it all...

Technology here is far more advanced than I'd have ever realised. The Temporal Gates offer us the opportunity to move through time as though it were simply an adjoining room. If only they were working properly, we might be able to escape this madness once and for all. As it stands, we're limited in how much we can use them. Sometimes I wonder if we'd be better off shutting them down completely; they draw too much attention, too many people are nervous - rightfully so - about what the future could hold for them.

At the same time, our devices appear to be malfunctioning. To start with, our scanners are failing - we took the samples from Ensign Taratuta's corpse, hoping that we could scan each other and sort this mess out once and for all. Unfortunately, it seems to have rendered them useless. Hopefully we can fix it before it becomes too late; having that knowledge would be invaluable. But more to the point, our comms system is still jamming. Only one person reports that their comm is working, but they told such a strange tale - that Irena spoke to them from beyond the grave! That would be incredible, but there are those here who do not believe it is true. At the moment, I cannot say one way or the other. I suppose only time will tell.

They claim that Irena warned them that Novak was not trustworthy. It pains me that we cannot scan him yet. We have no way of knowing if our military officer is still human, or if he is being controlled by something else. There is one positive coming out of this, however; today ended without too much bloodshed. Novak agreed to solitary confinement in the brig until we can fix the scanners. This gives us even more reason to get them fixed quickly, but we cannot be too hasty. I would not want to make an error in the code.

I would not want to send an innocent man to his death.

I am losing control.

First of all, Novak was killed during the night. We had thought he would be safe in the brig, behind all those security doors. And I don't know anyone stronger in hand-to-hand fights than Novak...he certainly wouldn't have gone down easily. But there he was, disembowelled on the floor of the cell, eyes staring up at the skies, mouth in a twisted grimace. What were we thinking?

Then Ensign Woolf died. She had known she was going to die for a long time now. The implant we had to install on her neuropathways to revitalise her after the incident on Aran Alpha had given her a keen sense what was to come, but being here really pushed her over the edge. It seems that fate is not quite as nailed down here as we would have thought; she confided in the crew that her date of death was always shifting, changing almost daily. I can only imagine the torture she would have felt as it changed last night...

And to think, we had actually considered locking her up. She rushed into the temporal gate, sure...but with that burden, I entirely understand her desire to see what was happening after her death. She knew she was meant to die, and just wanted a glimpse of a future that was out of her reach...

There are not many of us left now; nearly half of us are dead.

To make matters worse, our scanners continue to malfunction with each passing day. We have previously found reprieve in the night, but it seems that we will be in for an abrupt awakening. Something has intensified the light coming from the closest star, and now I fear we must add a difficulty sleeping to our list of problems. It may not sound like much, but I dread to think what this will be like when my crew want to tear each other's throats out as a matter of course. Then again, most of the deaths we have suffered have happened at night, so this might not be a bad thing after all...

Dean never changes.

Captain Wren had a lot of time for his antics. He was always disobedient, obnoxious, unorthodox...but he normally came through in the end. There have been times when I've wondered why the Captain kept him on. I even urged Wren to leave him back at base last year, since he always seemed to cause more trouble than was worth. Hell, I'd even gotten as far as to suggest a name or two for his replacement. But the Captain wouldn't have it. He liked Dean much more than I ever did.

Does that make this any easier? Not at all.

More convenient, certainly. When someone does not follow orders, they jeopardise the whole crew's safety, and Dean was not known for following orders. He would do what he thought was right, often without any thought to the greater picture. Wren thought this was admirable, but I thought it was arrogant. And now his disobedience has cost him his life.

We caught Dean leaving the Temporal Gate. He was harshly reprimanded. I'd already said, after yesterday's issues with Taryn, we could

not

have people using it without authorization, muddying the waters. Dean spat at the ground and claimed not to care; he said it was more important for someone

he could trust

to see what the future held! Not only did that suggest that he could not trust me, but it went against a direct order. The insolence alone made me want to-

But of course, I remained calm. I wasn't going to wind up with more innocent blood on my hands. No. I had four of the crew watch over Dean whilst I surveyed the ship, looking for an adequately secure cell. I figured the Decon chamber would work; he should survive in there for a few days at least.

I returned to where Dean had been held, only to see him making a break for it - trying to escape! He dared to defy me

again

! This would be the last time he broke an order. I drew my pistol and shot.

The bullet tore through his leg. He staggered, keeling over to the side, and landing with a splash into the river. Some of the crew rushed to him - he was thrashing around, trying to stay afloat, but the current was too strong, and carried him far off downstream.

Dean was not possessed by an alien.

I am bound by law to make a record of my murder of an innocent member of this crew. I shot him in the leg, and he fell and drowned. He washed up on the river bank not far away this morning. He looked at me so accusingly...I, I'm not sure I can take much more of this. Wren put his faith in me, and there is nothing but death around me here.

The rest of the crew are getting anxious. When the numbers dwindle, there are only so many that could be responsible. Luckily no one has thrown suspicion my way, but as for their peers...

Kyrie was murdered last night. Sweet, innocent Kyrie. I will freely admit that I had a thing for her, but like any good senior on board a starship, I ignored those feelings. Now she will never know. I mean, at least she knew she had a special place in Wren's heart - nothing untoward, of course, but he looked at her like a daughter. When he found her stowed away beneath deck, her wit was unrivalled.

But that wit did not save her from the death that is stalking our every move here.

To think, she went through so much, just to die here. It's despicable; I

have

to find a way to stop this. The rest of us will begin to search the distant lab ruins to see if there's anything there that can help us...

Indeed, there's no point staying here. The Gate appears to be on the fritz; I'm not sure what's wrong with it, but I certainly don't like the noises that it's making...

UPDATE 134: OVERLOAD BREAKER

Test results suggest that the Gate is good for a number of charges before overloading. The exact number does not appear fixed; indeed, we have only been able to recognise the problem by the high-pitched humming noise the Gate makes during said overload. Members of the team using the Gate during this time found it difficult to navigate their way back to the present day. We would advise no one to use the Gate during this time.

We installed a safety device to prevent accidental trapping. It can only be tripped once during the overload process, and will render the gate useless for the next few days whilst it recharges. Hopefully this precaution will prove useful.

The gate shudders into silence. It can be used no longer.

We have touched down on Gaea Prime. Three of the crew died on the descent, two from the virus. Ensign Kendricks hanged herself.

Everyone is on edge. The stories of this place were always the more frightening for their ambiguity; the reports were, regretably, highly classified. The planet has taken on an almost mythical status; like an abandoned old house at the end of a street, it was the subject of many terrifying night-time stories for those of us living out our childhood in space. Man-eating vegetation, spectres of the lost scientists, temporal novas that aged you instantly - outrageous as each invented horror was, it gives this place an unsettling familiarity. I can't be help feel that I have been here before...

Regardless, I had to send some of the crew to explore the surrounding area. Those that stayed behind set up our equipment. It was at this moment that some of the fear that had been brewing in my stomach was legitimised. As soon as our radio was operational, we received a transmission. It was my voice.

The message lasted only a few seconds, but the desperation in my voice was clear. I had sent myself a warning from the future; that within a week, we would all be dead. That our foes could masquerade as the very people they were trying to kill. That if we did not act now, humanity would be doomed. The crew looked between me and the radio in astonishment, in fear. The final words before the transmission cut out echoed in my mind;

I am on the verge of giving up.

This place is fucking crazy. I just want to preserve that for the record. If anyone ever finds these logs, on this planet, get out

right now.

Whatever you are looking for, you would be better off without it if it means coming here.

I should probably give some context. Since we have been stranded on this planet, eight members of my crew have died, including one decommissioned robotic AI. That alone should tell you how dangerous this place is. But that's not all. Oh no. Death, I could probably deal with and retain my sanity. But this-

Yesterday the Temporal Gate died on us. Couldn't get it working. Probably a good thing. No more nasty surprises.

And then, out of nowhere, one of the crew just tears the fabric of time and space. No problems. Bam, wormhole. And like that, the crew are alive again. I mean, my mind was blown when we first arrived here, around the time the concept of travelling through time was established...but this was something else. Oh, and did I mention that they spoke to us? The dead people, that is. They spoke to us. Yep.

I'm not the only one losing it. The Father spoke out against what he called the monstrosity of what was happening - that the dead should not rise up, that there's a whole host of histories telling us that the undead are the enemies of the Lord, that things were not as they seemed, that perhaps this was all at the bidding of some malevolent being.

The rest of the crew did not take too kindly to this. As soon as the wormhole faded - it didn't last long - the crew turned on Liefeld and strung him up by his neck. They're surrounding him right now, ready to kill him.

I know it's my duty to protect the crew of this ship, but I don't even know what that would entail any more.

Okay so I'll try to address a couple of the more glaring issues/criticisms and then maybe I might have time to talk about what I think went well =3

(1) Hydra Chat Logs - I didn't like this, but modkilling the slot would have ended the game, and I don't think the scum would have wanted to win like that? I will make it an explicit rule in future games (I figured the rule about no "private communication" to be posted covered it, but alas).

(2) Death Godfather Bastardry - the potential for inaccurate/missing flips was mentioned in the signup thread, and I hope that some of the "bastardry" of the role is lessened when you take into account that the bastard flip only lasts for two game phases. This role was meant to be a powerful scum ability to temporarily combat confirmable town at LYLO, and make the reviver role less OP for town (as they could accidentally revive the Death GF). Initially when I was thinking about doing a time travelling setup, no one would have flipped for a day (as per the delayed anomaly that came in later on) and/or all would have flipped town first if I'd made it explicitly bastard...

(3) Short deadlines - this was a mistake on my part. The week deadlines were not too bad, but the 24 hour Night with no Day Talk is inexcusable. For that I apologise. I can only say that I was trying to balance pro-scum and pro-town anomaly effects.

(4) Balance - I think this game was...rather townsided in terms of roles. Most explicitly, the Wormhole, which initially was envisioned to only work going forwards, but got changed to multi-directional at the last minute before the game started. I didn't expect the role to last that long, actually, because I didn't expect the Gates to be used so quickly (but more on that later). I figured it would be used in the early-to-mid game to either guarantee LYLO info (going forwards) or bring maybe 2-3 dead players back (going backwards). The way it turned out was a real blow for the scum, IMO. I think the rest of the roles worked as designed (barring the ones that weren't used (Reviver/BP) - more on this later), but scum needed something BIG to help them out. I'm not sure what, but they were a little Underpowered. This was because (a) the Death GF is a beast of a role, and (b) I placed a much greater importance on gathering Paradoxes as it turned out.

(5) Paradoxes - they were basically useless. They should have been rarer, which would have made the scum roles (2/3 of which were designed around paradoxes) more significant. I could have linked factional PRs to paradoxes to make scum hoarding them/town giving them away more significant. I think if paradoxes had been more integral, then

perhaps

gates wouldn't have been used as quickly. I wanted it to be a tense situation for scum having to decide how to kill according to timeline, but they basically could do whatever they wanted.

(6) Gates - I can see why it would need some kind of timelimit/vote system to stop people just grabbing it. I'm interested in seeing how to work it into an Open setup - part of me thinks it's a good idea to leave it up to the players to police the gategrab, part of me obviously doesn't. The reason I eschewed a vote system was because I didn't want scum to have to pander to town if they wanted to fake a gate result (especially since we CAN get caught scum in this setup, I wanted them to be able to put the finger up and steal the gate info), although (thinking of future use) that WOULD mean that scum had another reason to look super-town; to fake gate results. A 24-hour timelimit is okay but it still has the problem of people being on at the right time to steal it. I do think it could have worked a lot better - or at least a lot less frustratingly - and am eager to see how it goes in the Open discussion thread ^^

(7) Timelines - I put the BP/Reviver in to try to create potential MYLO situations, where scum would have the scope to No Kill or extend LYLOs to ridiculous dates; this was one of the methods to combat against the "port to D60" idea that Sixty came up with. Within the ruleset, if scum had chosen to, they

could

have had everyone alive for the first 100 days...whether that is against the spirit of the game, whether that wasn't really clear, I don't know. I didn't want to straight-up tell scum they could do this as I felt it would be suggesting tactics. Also, I know that scum wanted to continue a town timeline for obscuring the LYLO, but I think Sixty's had them all dead before D3 so that wasn't really an option!

(8) Starting the game at LYLO - yikes, if any day should have had a week deadline, it would have been this one. Sorry to those that lost interest/momentum because of this. I decided to go for this to (a) give baseline info to town, and a difficult decision to scum; and (b) to increase the amount of time travelling. Before I decide to start the game in LYLO, I was concerned that for a time travelling mafia, the design seemed to be going in a mostly temporal-linear fashion! (Some of the roles tried to address this as well, but there might have been other ways of doing this without breaking the game so much!)

There was probably more that I've missed >_> I'll have another look over all the stuff that's been posted in endgame again But next, I'll just talk about the things that I think went well!!

(1) Players! On the whole this was a really enjoyable game to read, and I'm sad that I was absent for the conclusion. I loved watching the tactics that folks came up with and some of the posts were very funny. Thank you for all taking part, and for putting up with some of the hiccups along the way. I could tell that there were some frustrations, but I am grateful that no one replaced out (except for Ghostlin for inactivity reasons). Special Mentions - Sixty's deductive reasoning and mechanic busting; MC Maraca's double-layered fakeclaim gambit; Pere's attempts at misleading the Dead QT ("AV makes all the posts in the scum QT!" was my favourite by far!)

(2) Gate Mechanic - it may have been burdened by some of the roles, but I think it is a solid mechanic that will hopefully be used again!

(3) Flavour - I had a blast with the flavour; I only wish I'd done additional "Did You Knows?" in the Vote Counts, e.g. "Did you know the drunk Captain's Log was written whilst AV was actually drunk?" :p Making the Role PMs was great fun, and I also kinda wish that I'd designed Natariasha's role to be "uncovered", making her a named townie of sorts. That would have been a nice surprise for Tierce! I will post Role PMs up later for those who are interested.


So overall, there were more hiccups that triumphs, but as an experimental "time travelling" setup, I think it was a lot of fun - if not perfectly balanced - and I hope that it was as exciting to play as it was to watch!
