rules1. This is a game. Have fun. Don't let things get personal.

2. During Day, you may vote for the player you want to lynch. Votes should be in the form
Vote: Player
or they may not be counted. It is helpful to "
Unvote
" when switching your vote to a different player, though this is not required.

3. Whenever a player has a majority in votes, that player will be lynched, his or her role will be revealed, and Night will begin. Once a player has reached a majority, Twilight will begin. No votes or unvotes will be registered, although talking may continue until the thread is locked. You may also
Vote: No Lynch
; a majority will end Day without a death.

4. If discussion lags or Day goes on for too long, a deadline may be set. If no one has reached a majority at the deadline, the person with the most votes will be lynched given that half the remaining players are voting, otherwise it will be a no-lynch.

5. During Night, players with role abilities may send targets for those abilities. Choices are due by the posted deadline, but day may start earlier if the choices are sent in early.

6. Don't edit/delete posts. Use the "Preview" button to look over your post before you submit it.

7. Don't quote any PMs from the Moderator.

8.
Mafia, werewolves, masons, neighbors etc. are allowed to communicate by PM/QT at all times
(i.e. not just during the night phase). Otherwise, do not talk to anyone about this game outside the thread.

9. When you are killed you may make one final post (as long as it is simply an "oh well" type post that doesn't reveal any game information), but then you are dead. Do not talk until the game is over; this includes talking to living players outside the thread.

10. I will send out prods at my discretion/on request. Players may be replaced if a prod is not responded to.

11. If you have any question, complaint, or comment, PM the Moderator.


game specific rules
Treestumps are not considered "alive" and as such do not have a vote, they do not count towards the number of their faction for voting purposes or game ending conditions, and they cannot be blocked/killed/removed

- If there are 6 people in the game and one is a treestump it is as if there are 5 people in the game, and the majority required to lynch would be 3.
- If there are 5 people left in the game and they are 2 town, 2 scum and 1 treestump the scum wins because they comprise half of the living players.

Your role is very important and much will depend on your ability to choose wisely; both the players you add to your neighbourhood and the powers you give them.

You win when no mafia are left alive.

I'll discuss what I think went wrong in this game, and what I'd change if I were running it again, but that will have to wait till tomorrow/the weekend.

Town was incredibly unlucky in this game, but at the same time you make your own luck. Scum completely deserved the win.

To start with when we discussed the set up pregame we were well off. Originally we had the game quite town-sided, and I think we made 2 or 3 changes too many (including the zombie-mafia ability, which was in hindsight definitely op). We still thought it might be slightly town-sided in its final form, but I think we underestimated just how pretty much game ending it would be if mafia get on the team.

That being said if the neighbourhood had got two actual town up and running from the start it would have been a completely different game. I guess the main problem becomes: two town in the neighbourhood = too strong for town. 1 scum in the neighbourhood = too strong for scum (don't even get me started on what would happen if 2 scum were in the neighbourhood!). This is problematic as it means it can swing too hard either one way or the other. If I was to run this again I would have to put some sort of checks and balances in to make the neighbour selection not completely decide the game.

Some of the one shot abilities I rejected (eg 1 shot cop) could probably be thrown back in. As someone correctly said in the neighbourhood thread (notsci I think) too many roles require you to guess the scumkill.

I don't necessarily agree that deadlines would have been the magic bullet to solve the lack of activity problem. I've been in many games where deadlines just meant the scum can lurk till the end of the day and then come on to join whatever bandwagon is most appealing to them.

I admit this game was somewhat of an experiment for me, and I apologise that you were essentially test subjects in what turned out to be somewhat of a failure. I think it could have worked better with a few different choices or perhaps a more active town, but this did highlight some fairly clear flaws in the setup itself.

In any case thanks for sticking with it to the end.

Yeah I would have loved more time to refine it. I actually went looking for help in the "setup review" and "open setup discussion" threads but got barely any replies. I only got people to help me review the set up when I asked them directly - bulbazak, Vi and Llamafluff (thanks so much for the help you did give btw) - and we only got to speak about it for a week or two before it went in to signups.

It was ambitious to try to put a mechanic that was clearly better suited for a larger game in to a mini, as it turns out overly-ambitious, but I'm not going to completely give up on the idea of having power-giving stumps in a mini just yet. I will definitely implement deadlines in any future games though.
