My advice to all players is to wait and see what Kinetic's replacement can offer before continuing down this path, but not to let up pressure. Some of Kinetic's play can be attributed to personal distractions, but that doesn't mean his replacement gets a free ride. See that way too often.

I'd be voting him myself for pressure right now if he wasn't already at L-2. I don't think L-1 is going to help us. Besides, I'm putting pressure elsewhere (or trying )

As I was looking at Kinetic's posts, I initially thought that his posts saying that he didn't know what to do because he had not been around for a long time might have been legit but then I looked him up on the site and found that he had, in fact, been in another game quite recently (that started a few weeks before this one), and in that game it seems that he played much differently than he has done in this game. In that game, he was active, involved, confident, aggressive, and even bigging up his reputation as an old-timer, while in this game, he seems to be trying to portray himself as weak, shy, and uncertain.

That doesn't make sense to me.

Initially, I was suspicious of Vi but I couldn't really articulate my reasons for it (as I mentioned at the time); it was an overall thing, for soft sorts of reasons, the kind that give you that niggling feeling but you have to let it percolate for a while to see which way it goes. It included the 'fluffiness' of many of her posts, her trying to shut others down from making their own inquiries of players aside from those that she personally wanted to focus on, the way she seemed to expect others to just follow her lead and leave their own reads at the door, that kind of thing. Then last night, all she did was fill her posts with strawmen, toss out one liners, and try to disparage others instead of trying to shed light. This appeared to me to be her way of trying to throw mud at the wall illegitimately while simultaneously avoiding answering questions herself. This, collectively, strikes me as scummy behaviour.

The goal of any town player is to find scum and try to do this through different methods. The key to this is that all methods have a similarity in their intent. They're all looking for things that scum would DO.

Vi's posting is doing that. Attempting to get inside the head of scum and look at intent based on votes and reactions.

Your post on the other hand has the unfortunate quality of not doing this. The intent behind the post was not backed up with any attempt at finding scum, but rather at potshotting someone's credibility for later, and keeping yourself under the radar, without having to commit anywhere.

This kind of posting is perfect for scum, because it makes people consider other players beyond yourself and gives you some ground to stand on in the terms of content.

The fact is, attempting to claim that post is coming from a scum perspective without elaborating on it (because once I elaborated on it, it became clear you were cherry picking a tree and avoiding the forest) has more scum intent than anything Vi has said so far.

There's something about this sentence that doesn't sit well with me. I also don't like the way she's talking to Juls. She's talking to Juls as though she's town. It gives me, to borrow the word-of-the-day, creepy vibes. Seriously though, it's just offputting.

The support for LLD is out of the blue, unexplained and does absolutely nothing for me. Also, what's the deal with the '?'? This comment doesn't read natural. It reads as someone trying to begin to foster relationships with Juls/LLD.

The first a bit for what I assumed the reasoning was (related to you engaging only in joke territory) I liked, though on the other hand not hard to pick up on/vote for as scum, so not too indicative. Seemed better/more productive when your response was in joke territory, less so now because presumably player relationships and stuff, which gives context that makes it all kinda null (also that being more likely context for LLD's vote to start with than what my best guess was initially &c.).

I mean, this is so poorly written that I have no idea what Plum is trying to say. It sounds like it just got out of Babelfish.

I'm not trying to pick on her for poor grammar skills (Lord knows you could find a million in my posts), but I am concerned that this translates into a lot of words that say nothing. It's easy to skim past this and go, "huh, yeah, Plum... activity = town".

I've already touched on how 37 just seems like it's overexplaining, and that comment stands.

This was and is dumb because sitting around waiting for interaction just contributes to a stagnant game. But of course you're not the only one. Kinetic excuses himself from doing anything on a claimed basis of not being a good Day 1 player. I think the excuses are all pretty worthless.

This is fair, and I honestly brought this answer upon myself a bit, but this was really a bit beyond the point I was making.

I mean, I assumed (wrongly, as has proven to be the case) that I would be given slack by Sal if I was able to kind of talk to him on a one-on-one level "above the fray", as it were. Much like how I would talk with a player like Vi or ABR.

Plum is not scummy for this comment, but I just want to touch on it because it is the crux of Sal's case. There's a disconnect between us right now because we came into this game with two very different expectations of one another. I'm not great at reading Sal yet, but I know enough to know that I am willing to cut him more slack in a game than I would cut for other players. As the game develops, we may or may not be on the same page with one another, but there's this mutual understanding of, "okay, we know each other well enough now that we understand each other's little idiosyncracies ... this doesn't mean we'll always be aligned together, but we won't trip over the same obstacles we may have tripped over in our first game with one another".

Anyway, this is just a long way of saying that I overestimated my relationship with Sal and that comment would've been fleshed out more had I taken that into consideration.

I do like Plum's criticism of Q in this post, however.

Thinking something is a good vote, especially that early, is at least as much a reflection of 'I appreciate how this voter seems to be thinking' as 'this is a vote on someone I would like to vote'.

It was a poor vote and you trying to have your cake and eat it too, is not lost one me.

Anyway, one thing ABR is in the right direction about about is Jazzmyn. I'm fully convinced that Jazz has and does find ABR legitimately creepy and I don't think that her framing it that way is itself a tactic to spread *chaos*. But inasmuch as her latest post is all about the presumably not alignment-related creepiness from ABR. It would be one thing if Jazzmyn had a couple of lines about it and moved on, but that was basically the entire content of her post, and it got to the point that she asked him to "contribute meaningfully to the game" where the extent of her own content is: 1)asking Salamance to elaborate his RC (meta)read and 2) asking Kinetic why he worried about the four-vote wagon on RC being too many votes for RC's level of scumminess. To that degree of depth of inquiry, really.

I really like this, too. This may be your best post of the game. I was fully intending this post to be a sort of treatise on why Plum should be voted right now, but I'm starting to have second thoughts after going through her ISO. First off, no one this game has been afraid to give an opinion on me. That happens to be because I am a very polarizing character. In my playstyle, and in how people perceive me, I've come to accept this.

Which is why it is too fucking weird that out of every player, including a ton who even I am sort of uncertain on, you seem confident in your reads about everyone BUT me. You drop a null, more or less, on me. Why is that? Are you afraid to place a read on me one way or another? It doesn't feel town motivated.

Because, by your own admission, you're not really caught up or motivated in this game. To have such solid opinions about everyone BUT me feels like a conscious choice to avoid me.

LLD - Because I was really, really, really fucking tired; I'll spare you the IRL details unless you want them. I started my post at a semi-arbitrary point - start of Day 2, sieve for stuff, go back to ISOs and stuff as warranted - trying to cover a few things that I either already knew were important for me to reread and analyze/address (e.g. wrt Vi) and to make sure I tried to give a hard look at players who were weird/prominent in being on or avoiding the wagon on me and updating my reads (e.g. Quaroath, Master Zik, Salamance, zakk). I hadn't really gotten to you by the point that I was basically finished in terms of energy remaining and at that point I just accepted that fact that among the players I had weak reads or reads that needed updating, I hadn't gotten to you.

I'm all but caught up in this game, and I'm feeling reasonably motivated, actually. I'm going to try to keep it that way.

Right, because I'm never going to give anyone that information.

I work based on intent and expectation. If I told people what kinds of expectations I want to see from players to make me believe they are town (in the general sense or in a specific sense for an individual player) I would find myself being fooled much more often.

Ergo, both in the long run of future games, and in the short term of this game, explaining my town reads will only serve to put me at a disadvantage in my town games.

If you want an example of how I use expectation and intent to catch scum, Matriarchy Mafia is a very good recent example of me catching Nacho as scum using this method.

Singer's is worse, because she says, and I quote: "I could just be picking up LLD white knighting Vi since he seems to be putting so much stock in her ability to read him (why is that, btw?)" in the same breath as saying "lkjdgbaidjghaluhg. My pride wants me to say that I could fake anything as scum. My heart tells me my interactions with Vi, and just how genuinely angry I've gotten this game isn't something I can fake (or want to fake) reliably.

The question is a bit silly though, what are you expecting to learn from my answer?

In addition, the Mastin thing can be explained at length, if you want when I have time, but the gist of it was that I felt through my experience with Mastin, she's very STUBBORN and has a certain... air of contempt when you suspect her of being scum incorrectly. Like, "peons, you dare think I am SCUM? Be gone!" But none of the arrogance was there, it was more like... forced anger and resignation, and it just felt WRONG.

Plus, all the other stuff I said about how forced reactions are bad and blah blah. I don't rely on meta that much, but me thinking you were Mastin and my expectations of what you'd do as Mastin attempting a new playstyle skewed it, for certain.

Let's talk about Cabd's reads list here.
The reads themselves: Not terrible. The reasons themselves? Horrible. Who talks about reads like this when the reason he has for his town town town block is "mutual townread and they look super engaged in this game!"? These reads look like the very embodiment of making up reasons to support the reads: he knows these are reads he is expected to have because LLD and Vi aren't ever getting mislynched, but he's not really sure why they're being read as town as they are.

I wanted to wait until he finished on this, but everything felt a little... skin deep with his reads, don't they?

Like it's skimming the obvious indications, and not getting down into the real intent behind the posts.

So the real question, Nacho, is whether this is indicative of him being scum not wanting to give controversial positions, or whether it's indicative of him being unable to keep up with this game?

Similarly, if Cabd's observations were skin deep, this analysis is similarly shallow. I don't see where you're going with this, and the question above gives me pause as to why you haven't thought about this a little harder?
