General Rules
1) Starting and Ending States:
All roles that can communicate at night may do during pregame. The game will end when one faction has fulfilled its win condition, unless otherwise specified.
2) Day Procedures:
Each player may discuss the game and cast a single vote at a time against people they want to lynch. Day ends when either the deadline hits or a strict majority of the votes are on one person.
3) Voting:
Votes should be in bold in order for them to count, for instance:
Vote: xRECKONERx
. You may also use the VOTE: tags if you desire. If you wish to vote for a different player, you don't need to unvote. As long as I can tell who you're voting for, I don't care if you abbreviate someone's name when you vote them.
3b) Voting Formatting:
We are using an automatic vote counter this game... this means that we have to adhere to strict formatting.
Put a colon (:) after the word "Vote".
The vote counter will miss it if you don't. Also,
use full usernames
or at least something very close. The vote counter will attempt to match an attempted vote with a playername and find the closest match, but if it's too far off, it won't count it.
4) No Lynch:
As an alternative to voting for someone, you may
Vote: No Lynch
, but for it to take effect, enough players must vote No Lynch that it would be impossible to form any other majority.
5) Deadlines:
D1 deadline will be 3 weeks. Every day from then on will have a strict deadline of 2 weeks, unless I deem game issues have caused the need for an extension. I will try to keep a deadline warning in every vote count, but if I don't, it's your job to check the day start post to keep track of the deadline.
6) Mass Inactivity:
In an act of pure villainy, I may shorten the deadline if I deem the activity level is unsatisfactory. You will be warned if I want you fellows to pick up the pace before I shorten the deadline.
7) Deadline Lynches:
If no single player has enough votes for a lynch at the deadline, the result is No Lynch and the game proceeds to Night. Deadlines are there for a reason.
8) Twilight:
After someone receives the majority vote, everyone may still discuss the game, but votes and unvotes will not be considered - the person voted for by the majority will be lynched regardless. Twilight will last until I waltz in and post a death scene (which can be quite short, but never really long).
9) Night Length and Procedures:
The topic will be locked at Night. If your Role PM specifies that you have a Night Action, you may follow the instructions on that PM to use it. Barring extenuating circumstances, nights will not last longer than 3 RL days.
9b) Accelerated Nights:
Due to the mechanics of this game, accelerated nights are not offered.
10) Night Action Resubmission:
If you have to PM a choice to the mod (i.e. the name of someone you want to kill/protect/investigate), you may change your choice at any time during the Night by sending The Mod another PM with the new choice. The most recent choice will be honored when night deadline hits.
11) Night Action Priority:
This game will use natural action resolution, unless otherwise stated by the mod. Specific questions about night action resolution will be referred back to this post.
12) Bolding Stuff:
Bolding something is how you get the mod to notice it. It's that simple.
13) Mod Color:
If The Mods needs to edit your post, it will be done in
bolded, green font
. Don't impersonate me, or I'll cut off your thumbs and feed them to you.
14) Activity, Prods, and Replacements:
You will be prodded if three days have passed since your last post. If I check in and you had, say, 80 hours of inactivity but you've since posted, you will not be issued a prod... but I check in pretty frequently. If you are prodded three times or do not respond to a prod within 24 hours (meaning posting in thread), you will be replaced.
14b) Vacation / Limited Access:
Real life comes up and mafia games take a long time. If you're going to be inactive for an extended amount of time, feel free to post a
V/LA
in thread. However, in order for the V/LA to be recognized, please be sure to set your inactivity in your UCP (User Control Panel -> Vacation / Limited Access tab) as prods/activity checks are done from the Activity Overview.
15) "Last Words" for replacements:
If you request replacement, you may PM me a message that you would like to have passed on to the person who replaces you.
16) "Bah!" Posts:
If your player slot is killed off, it's probably because people don't want you around. Unless your role specifically states you can keep talking/voting/playing Monopoly with me, you are allowed one informationless "bah" post and then scram til endgame. Special mechanics can of course overlap.
17) Outside Discussion:
Don't discuss this game outside of this thread with anyone unless your Role PM lets you do otherwise.
18) Post Editing:
Editing or deleting posts is not allowed (and usually not possible). Doublepost with your changes instead. I will modkill for a single abuse of this rule.
19a) Mod and PM quoting:
For role PMs, If you quote it, you will be modkilled. You can send me the reformulation (I'm pretty loose with reformulation) and I will tell you if posting it is allowed or if it needs further modifications. If you quote a PM from me, you will be terminated (barring questions about rules or something). I would advise avoiding discussion related to role PM wording as that's a quick way for a flurry of modkills to hit the game.
19b) QTs and Private Communication:
If it is a moderator provided method of communication (i.e., neighbor QT, or masons who use AIM) do not quote it in the thread. Obviously, do not provide links to the QT in any way shape or form.
20) Modkills:
Breaking any of the above rules (or flagrantly violating Rule 16) will result in you getting modkilled. Modkills can be retroactive. If a living player breaks any of these rules, the day may or may not end, depending on what would disadvantage that player's faction the most. In addition, getting modkilled results in an instant loss for that player, along with my general hatred. In short, follow the rules, don't be a dick.
21) Small/Invisible text:
You may use smaller text if it amuses you, as long as it's not meant to bypass a rule. As in, no hidden messages or shit like that. I will fuck you up for fucking with my game.
22) Win Mentality:
Play to win.
23) Policy:
Have fun. Or else. And remember, it's a game - keep it classy and don't take things personally; everyone's doing what they have to to win.
24) Setup Design:
You can try to outguess the mod, but it's probably pointless.
25) Flavor:
The flavor was applied after-the-fact. Mechanics and roles first, flavor later.
Game Specific Rules
Setup Numbers:
This game has four mafia, and twelve town. 12:4.
Neighborhoods:
The game is divided into four neighborhoods w/ night talk, and a list will be kept in the opening post. The terms "street" and "neighborhood" are used interchangeably. A new private topic will be sent out every night for the members of that neighborhood to use.
Mechanics:
The abilities in this game
may
be somewhat traditional/normal, but there are roles that interact with the neighborhood mechanic in an interesting way.
Balance:
The game is reasonably balanced in its N0 state. However, this is a vanillaless game, so be warned that swing is expected and welcomed.
Spoiler: Sample Town PM

Also, since some people don't read rules...
3b) Voting Formatting: We are using an automatic vote counter this game... this means that we have to adhere to strict formatting.

If the above VC is not correct, it's because you didn't follow these rules.

Hi, guys. Let's have a little chat.
I posted in the first post that we'd be using an automatic vote counter! And, due to not following the rule of following a vote with a colon, ZZZX's vote in 812 did not count. Similarly, mollie's alt slip and subsequent re-quote in post 864 did not count, due to being inside a quote box.
Please try to follow voting guidelines in the future. I have been going back and editing votes that the VC warns me might be poorly formatted, but stuff like the above two posts will slip through every time.
I'm aware this has the potential to result in vote fuckery, like fake votes and fake hammers. Do not do it. If I notice you repeatedly missing the formatting or doing it wrong, I will replace you. I'm currently out of town for a wedding and will be back in full swing on Monday and can deal with more issues then. Please PM me if you have any comments or questions about how voting should proceed.

Any time the auto VC warns me to double check the formatting on someone's post, I edit it to the full, properly formatted username the user meant to vote for.

In post 1256, Hoopla wrote:Why not just manually do a vote count if you keep on having to check it anyway?
The VC program I'm using automatically calculates votes that are close enough. It has some finicky moments, and when it does, it links me directly to the post in question. Clicking "count votes" then clicking a link to edit a post takes all of two minutes, making it much easier for me to provide more frequent vote counts. Given the pace of games these days, it is my belief that faster/more frequent vote counts are more needed than longer, less frequent vote counts.
Again, as I've said already, I'm not particularly interested in discussing the philosophy behind using this vote counter in the game thread. I'm more than willing to talk via PM.

It is now Night 1.
Neighborhoods are being unlocked. I will set a night deadline after I resolve issues with certain players, decide on replacements, and correct an issue with the automatic vote counter. Shouldn't be too long.
@Mod I know I asked too many questions but if traditional lynch rules apply that means we CAN no lynch?
@Mod as in not getting enough votes
Guys if we can no lynch why not do it??
Ah, I see your point now.
No, at deadline, the person with the most votes will be lynched between yourself & Bicephalous Bob. If there is a tie, it will be the person who reached that number of votes first.
