personally, i would like you to trust both kagami and sakura, but i know these words really carry no weight here.
You're not going to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. S*Gaiden will not make long cases, write stunning insights, or sugar coat his words. He is not the man for multi-paragraph eloquence. He is, however, being honest to a fault, and it comes across in his writing.

Well kagami wasn't strongly town reading you (afaict) and the only real point she mentioned D2 was that nati thing which isn't that great a point imo

Sakura is one of the only reasons I haven't voted you previously

well, they already knew of another d5 role, but would they really think that town would have 2 confirmables.
1 by flavor and 1 by role?

I think the problem is you're assuming it was a decision made by a scumteam in a game with no daytalk instead of just Notty making a suboptimal decision on how to use his day activated ability.

So I’ve been wracking my brain over this game since yesterday. It’s been a long time since I actually had to make a decision in lylo so I’m actually feeling a bit of pressure to get this one right. I am actually a little sleep-deprived because I laid awake last night considering everything that has happened in this game and trying to figure out the answer.

On the one hand, gaiden is gaiden. Sakura has a decent record in reading gaiden and seemed pretty sure he was town. Kagami’s read strength on gaiden wasn’t as strong, but Kagami still leaned towards gaiden being town and I believe Kagami also has a decent history in reading gaiden correctly [citation needed]. Gaiden’s play itself hasn’t been at all impressive, even by normal gaiden standards, and I’ve been struggling for most of the game to get a solid read one way or another on him. His interactions with nati were basically non-existent up until the point where he declared he was unwilling to vote nati shortly before the deadline, and his interactions with noddy didn’t make me feel particularly good about him. But overall there’s nothing condemning there.

On the other hand, there’s Brian, who really, while I can find some things in his ISO that make me lean town on him, I’m still very, very paranoid about. I feel his enthusiasm towards the game has waned significantly, and while he’s claiming that has a bit to do with Oversoul/Nacho letting that no lynch happen a couple days ago, really, I feel this drop in activity levels and zeal could actually be alignment-related.

I think the fact that he’s basically been coasting by this day phase isn’t exactly endearing, and I find it a little weird that he’s not cross-voting at the moment. I guess this doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, but it’s still a little strange given the current game state.

I don’t think I’ll ever get over the paranoia I have about him with regards to the way the vanillarise stuff played out this game – I’ve read all the explanations and points he’s made about it, but no matter what way I think about it, I think the way noddy used his role in this game simply makes zero sense and I don’t really think noddy is such a bad player that he would consider Brian (a claimed D5 role) a threat so early in the game. Also, I don’t think noddy would be stupid enough to use his role in the way he did when there were probably better ways to use his role overall.

I’ve also been re-reading other interactions between Brian and flipped scum, particularly nati, and while I don’t think there’s anything conclusive that suggests he’s scum there, I do think the way he interacted with nati D1 looked a bit worse than what gaiden did – gaiden’s play simply makes very little sense, whereas brian was actively discouraging a nati lynch for a majority of D1, despite acknowledging that I have a fairly good history with reading Nati.

So basically this is where I’m at. My heart is telling me to vote Brian.

I feel like there’s a lot of weight on my shoulders with the fate of this game basically coming down to how good my reads are. And I don’t really want to let anyone in the dead thread down here. Nacho, if you’re watching over me right now, give me strength. Cho, if you’re up there somewhere, lend me power. Bork, please act as my guardian angel and help me in my time of need. Cupcake… Actually, I don’t care much about Cupcake to be perfectly honest so I wouldn’t feel all that bad in letting him down, but please continue doing whatever cupcakes do when they’re dead.

I want to be the hero this game needs, but not the hero this game deserves.

Just FYI… If brian is scum, I am going to fist-pump so fucking hard that I trusted my heart on this one. I’m going to jump up on my fucking desk and dance.

But if gaiden is scum, I’m going to give Sakura (and Kagami) SOOOOOOOO much shit for how badly they misread him this game, because some of this decision is coming down to me trusting them on their read instead of thinking about who I’d have voted purely by myself.

So anyway, I’ve made my decision and I’m sticking with it. I could waffle back and forth for another few days but, really, I don’t want to start second-guessing myself, so, without further ado…

Vote: Brian

The world between the books is a vast, teeming place full of untold adventures.

I met the warring denizens of the Cards and the Birds; I brought peace to their lands.

I met the great Monstrous Crow and Dinah, the saint; we left as friends.

I met the White Rabbit, a fellow survivor; there was much rejoice and celebration.

But somewhere, we made a wrong turn; and we drew her unfortunate attention.

Do not approach the lady in blue and white; her power extends beyond the visible.

Alas, a simple warning will have to do; it is all the time I have.

I can only pray, that my tale will be read.

Sincerely, by Nightingale,

a modest traveler who now meets his end.

My two-cents...

My congratulations to the scum team, especially zMuffinMan, for the win and fantastic performance. Early lynches on the low-numbered scum team usually spell doom in Large games, but zMuffinMan was able to pull out the solo win.

Most of what I have to say are scattered across the Dead PT, but I would like to summarize and recap here on game design and how it turned out.

As you may have noticed, this game heavily revolved around the mirrored neighborhoods. Roles and flavors of each neighborhoods were mirrored with a odd man out each to hint to the scum team, the identity of the town N5 Vig. (and also give chance for town to predict the scum N5 Vig, should the town N5 Vig flip early)

Neighborhoods becoming locked at end of N4 (as opposed to N5) reinforces this "odd man out" idea, and depending on how much was shared in the neighborhoods, give the town/scum a final chance at solving the neighborhoods composition before N5. Opening up the neighborhoods for public also solves the information gate problem DGB always complained about neighborhoods.

Scum team has no Doublevoters, so they actually are not aware of the how roles are consolidated in the neighborhoods at the beginning of the game. Only person who would be able to really guess the setup early on would be the Town N5 Vig slot, which, by stroke of luck, is occupied by town's best setup specc'er. Kagami virtually had the setup solved before her unfortunate early exit.

I did expect the town/scum team to solve the setup by N5 (the neighborhood unlocking is kinda like making the answers public, if that makes sense), and gave each side a role to deal with the opposing side's N5 vig. (town's Ascetic Roleblocker, and scum's Vanillaizer)

Doublevoters were used in place of VTs to nerf the alignment-confirmation aspect of the town rolecop. (Cheshire Cat received role names as is, making it stronger than a usual rolecop who can't differentiate between VTs and Goons) It was necessary to heavily nerf any investigative role that had the power to clear people in this game, because this setup featured a low-number scum team. The fact that this setup has no protective roles also ties in with that idea. In addition, injection of additional votes in play speeds up the day play, which is very desirable in a Large game with its rapid 8-days Day Phase.

Town's rolecop has the non-consecutive night modifier, which meant that should the rolecop figure out the neighborhood composition by N1, (which I thought as highly unlikely but possible), the rolecop would be rewarded by increasing the chance of getting an inno result to 2/6 N1. Rolecop is unable to get a single guilty result in this game, because no scum role has an alignment-telling role name. (except that farside caught ns in his lie anyways) Barring the rolecop figuring out the setup by N1, rolecop would have one more chance at N3 to get a inno result. (hopefully this time having the setup solved)

I would also like to apologize in that I did not take into account the possible interactions between the roleblocker and paranoid gun owner. As I mentioned in the dead PT, in my simulations I had presumed that the roleblocker would simply be shot upon claiming.

I really hope that you found the game interesting and fun. Queen of Hearts didn't have much fun though, seeing as her players kept replacing out on her!!!

You're not going to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. S*Gaiden will not make long cases, write stunning insights, or sugar coat his words. He is not the man for multi-paragraph eloquence. He is, however, being honest to a fault, and it comes across in his writing.
