Least known but most deserving musical act?

What band or other musical conglomeration is, in your opinion, the least recognized for its talent and potential? Links to myspace pages and/or youtube videos are appreciated.

At the moment I feel it's Caribou. It's actually a one man operation (his name's Daniel Snaith) but he's got a great live band he takes on tour. It used to be called Manitoba, but Snaith was sued by a pro-wrestler named "Handsome Dick Manitobe" (not making this up) and was forced to find a new name. Apparently, "Caribou" came to him during an acid trip (might have been a mushroom trip, not sure off the top of my head).

Anyways, they have a reasonable following (enough to tour Canada, parts of the US, and even a bit in Europe), but when they were booked and played at UNH, it was a free show and about 40 people showed up, so that should give you an idea of how "popular" the band is.

It's the best live act I've seen in a long time. I was on a buzz for about 3 days after I saw them. Granted, I was a bit "enhanced" during the show, but the fact that the environment, showmanship, and music were good enough to keep me going for DAYS afterwards, I was pretty impressed.

Sadly, the audio/video isn't great on these videos.

Andrew Bird is the most incredible live musician ever. (though well-known). He improvises and changes his songs with every single concert. He plays multiple instruments in his songs, so in the beginning of each song he loops the background stuff.

Each time you hear him, the same songs sound so new.
Here are some songs from Andrew Bird playing with Martin Dosh at Bonaroo

I would say Jonathan Coulton, though he is starting to get pretty famous, at least around the nerd circles. His music is pretty awesome though. I think there was a topic about him here though, so I wouldn't be surprised if most everyone here know who he was allready. (I went to his concert at PAX, it was really great.)

My favorite songs: I'm your moon, RE: Your brains, Chiron Beta Prime, Code Monkey, Future Soon and Creepy Doll.
Winner of the "if real life was like mafia" thread. :D

Fiction Plane, Sting's son's band, are awesome. (Fun fact: "Fiction Plane" is an anagram of "Infant Police".)

Yeah, I saw Sting's son's band live - they opened up for Snoop Dogg (Snoop is pretty boring live). You can totally tell it's Sting's kid when you see and hear him, it was cool but they definitely weren't in their element opening up for a rapper.

Yeah, that definitely doesn't sound right for them. They're much better heading their own gig, I saw them a couple of months ago and they completely blew me away.

The New Pornographers are awesome.
But you just can't act pretentious when you use a band that's extremely well-known. Try again?
