In post 54, JDodge wrote:So remember that whole SC live show thing I wanted to pilot? Still looking for people from somewhere between 6 PM and midnight EST tomorrow as a start time (not sure when exactly, will depend on peoples' availability. We'd be covering SC61 (since it's just a pilot, it doesn't necessarily matter if it's immediately relevant) so people who voted in that contest should be my target audience (or people willing to listen between now and the time we'd be doing stuff). Only necessary software is Mumble.

Ireland – Chris Kavanaugh: This is pretty good. I would chill to this. (B+)
Serbia – Darq E Freaker: This would be actually a lot of fun if his voice didn’t remind me so much of a sick squirrel. (C-)
Kyrgyzstan – Calvin Harris: Very bland. Nothing at all remarkable here. (C)
Hungary – Szaloki Agi: Pleasant. Not much else to say. (B-)
Sweden – Mogwai: dulllllll (C-)
Iraq – Christian Mistress: This isn’t bad, but it’s not real exciting either. It sounds like Rush, Jr. (B-)
Angola – ZZ Ward: Myeh. Boring. (C)
Finland – XPRTNovice: Moderately enjoyable (B-)
Tuvalu – The Boy Least Likely To: This is trying hard to be empty floaty cloudstuff music, but it just doesn’t get off the ground. (C)
Japan – Molice: The only thing that sets this apart from anything is the fact that she’s singing in Japanese. Otherwise, very standard stuff. (B-)
St. Lucia – Corb Lund: THIS SONG IS THE BESTY MCBESTEST GUYS (A+++++++)
France – Uh Huh Her: Started off strong, but didn’t feel like it went anywhere. (B)
Slovakia – The White Stripes: This is a good song, but I mean, I’ve heard it a million billion times. (D)
Scotland – Train: See Slovakia. (D)
India – Flower Travellin’ Band: This is uhhhh… repetitive. And that’s the best I can say for it. (B-)
Samoa – James Blake: dullllll (C-)
Macedonia – Swing Republic: It’s clever, I guess? (B)
Mali – Screaming Maldini: This is the first legitimately enjoyable song I haven’t heard a billion times since Ireland. (A)
Belarus – DarwinTunes: Eh it’s all right? (B)
Germany – Gojira: That does end abruptly, but for the most part, I like it. (B+)
United States – Pierce the Veil: Oh man, I was so hopeful with the guitar intro. Sad day. (C)
Taiwan – Atoms for Peace: This was enjoyable. (B+)
Philippines – Anoraak: Decent. (B)
Wales – Fair: Mehhhhhhhhh (B)
Palestine – Coldplay: So I’m not familiar with this song, butit sounds like everything else coldplay has ever written. (C)
Sao Tome – Kate Rusby: All right. (B)
Not a big fan of this contest, for the most part.Current Avatar: Kronk. Duh.-

I should have known that the popularity of a song negatively impacts its talent.
I mean, you can bash Seven Nation Army for being dull, but really, when you judge a song mainly on how popular it is, you're missing the point of SONGS.
I have an entire library of hipster music, I should have known that I should've picked an obscure artist from a basement somewhere instead of a song that I thought was legitimately good.
The point that most people see in the song contest is "introduce me to new music that you like! Maybe I will like it too!" If you put in stuff that people have already heard, lots of folks are going to feel cheated, in a way.Current Avatar: Kronk. Duh.-
