It won't be the last one in The Commune, though, fyi. TriForce/PolyHaus/whatever is up for hosting another meet during the summer time, but probably not til 2015 since 2014 will only be 6 months after this one, haha.

Yay for meets!

Doing it in January would also mean cheaper flights cuz trololol not holiday season.

It's also more likely that Glork and I will be able to actually take time off for this since it won't be peek retail holiday hours.

So half of the people at Baltomeet live in NC, lol.

Also, no way am I missing karaoke this time. I've been wanting to go since I moved here. >_>

Also, as far as sleeping arrangements go, we'll have more or less three empty rooms for sleeping space, two pull-out couches, two other couches, two air-mattresses, a sleeping bag, and plenty of extra pillows/blankets (basically for any foreigners who want to come and not worry about bringing their own shit). Plus we can set up tents in the back yard like we did at Scummer of Love. :P

We also think it's pretty reasonable to all cuddle in the same bed together for the duration of the meet so that a couple people can share one of our beds (+2), and by that point, we'll probably have an entire extra room free for sleeping space with the two air mattresses and sleeping bag we have (+4).

Of course, everybody's sleep schedules will be all over the place anyway, soooo....
thanks

here is the dealio. I have lupus and I am also ever so slightly older than most of you. sleeping on a floor is not an option for me since it will likely leave bruises (I bruise ridiculously easy) and leave me in agony the next day. I can bring an air mattress if there is room (plz say yes) or ask any of my raleigh friends if I can stay at their house, stay at a hotel or worse case scenario drive back and forth from home. I would just prefer to have things planned out.
I guarantee there will be plenty "soft spots" are our place for people to rotate between, and will have cushion-y enough padding on the floor that people won't complain about taking it if you're already on the beds/couches. And to echo Glork, lots of people are on various sleep schedules during these meets, so it's very likely that it won't matter a whole lot anyway. :]

At Scummer of Love we had about this many people and it only turned out to be $25 per person for the week, plus whatever people got on top of that (alcohol, fast food, etc). That included all of the extra stuff like paper towels, utensils, disposable dishes, etc.

Like UT said, if anyone wants to make a signature dish, they should put together a grocery list and estimated cost based off of a quantity of at least 20 people and pass it on to the main hosting houses (GayHaus/PolyHaus).

And the way I figure it, is even if you don't eat every mass-meal, it's all being used to split up the extra cost of bills each house is fronting to host everyone anyway. *shrug*

I'm so excited for the meet!

I'd kind of like to do Adventure Landing if people are interested. On Friday nights from 6-10pm it's unlimited laser tag, unlimited mini golf, and a huge pizza for four, for only $6.25/person. It's also only 2 miles away from Polohaus, so it won't be too difficult to shuttle a lot of people there.

Also, if anyone's interested in bowling at any point, I'm down.

How many cars (not from Raleigh) will there be at this meet? It'd be good to get an estimate on parking and potential shuttling to/from events and stuff.

I know we have Shea's carpool which will be full anyway. Pirate Mollie will theoretically have a car? UT on the weekends?

Don't forget to pack warm clothes since it'll still be cold-ish here. Yes I realize most people are coming from much colder places, but we have a nice porch/backyard that has plenty of room for smore-making/socializing when people are sleeping and/or the game of True American we plan on playing. :D

In post 726, singersigner wrote:At Scummer of Love we had about this many people and it only turned out to be $25 per person for the week, plus whatever people got on top of that (alcohol, fast food, etc).

*shrug*
Reporting for emphasis. As of now, please try to budget for at least $30 for provided food/alcohol for the week.

We're all working on keeping the budget as reasonable as possible. Any extra activities+possible fast food outings might be an extra $30-50 depending on what you choose to budget for and participate in.

Super excited!

Polyhaus Meals:
  • Pasta w/veggie sauce: ~$25 = $1.25/person
  • Stir Fry: ~$30 = $1.50/person
  • Fish Tacos: ~$30 = $1.50/person
  • Enchiladas: ~$35 = $1.75/person
  • Chili: ~$50 = $2.50/person
We're working on a couple more recipes/estimates, including any communal groceries like cereal, milk, juices, chips, sodas, disposable dishes, etc. Those shouldn't tack on more than about $5/person. We're also probably going to have a pizza option in there somewhere.

All of these costs are estimated on a 20+ person scale, understanding that some might not participate in every meal and some might eat more than others. We're not going to nickel and dime you, but we do expect everyone to pitch in as best they can and be honest about what they should be contributing. This is first and foremost a fun meet/vacation for all of you, so please be respectful of the hosts and everyone you room with, drink with, eat with, game with, and stay with.

Bring what you can but the two main sleeping houses are collaborating on bedding/sleeping space. People driving have volunteered to bring what they can, too. We'll just keep track of who uses what from anyone out of town so nothing gets lost. At the very least you might want your own pillow that you can carry on the plane with you?

The idea is that we'll generally be spending most of our time at PolyHaus with the option of going somewhere else and a few spots people have requested for sleeping. Transportation's being worked out, especially if we plan on any outings like Rum Runners or Adventure Landing.

Alsooooo, Nuwen made me remember the stuffed shells quadz/Glork did at BaltoMeet, so maybe we'll collaborate on a Lasagna/Shell recipe. That wouldn't be more than ~$35-50 = $1.75-2/person?

To compare to BaltoMeet, actually...our house will have one main "activity floor" and one main "sleeping" floor during late night hours. I know that GayHaus has talked about a magic tournament at their house, potentially a poker tournament...or more ornery drinking. :P

Also, PSA, PolyHaus is a non-smoking house. No smoking inside and ashtrays-only outside. Please be respectful of any residual smoke, since everyone will be in very close quarters of one another and some are more sensitive to it than others.

Ok, so I lied about needing to bring pillows. Apparently we inherited a crap ton of them along the line. Or we did what we did today and updated ours while keeping the old ones. We have 11 extra pillows, not including the four extra ones we pad our own beds with and plan on borrowing out, as well as a couple of couch pillows we can use. If you're partial to your own pillow, bring it, otherwise don't feel like you need to make room.

We also found 6-7 extra bath towels, two extra comforters, two air mattresses, a large sleeping bag, three extra bed sheets and a handful of extra throw blankets. I anticipate it being warm enough inside our house that we can pad the floors with the thicker blankets and stuff, and use the others for coverage. Y'all can discuss how you want to do things when you see what kind of sleeping arrangements we have.

Preview Edit:
DN, I'll be your beer pong partner as I no longer have a reason not to drink. :shifty:

Reck, if you designed a setup, I'm sure quadz wouldn't mind actually ~running~ it, all credit to you. It might actually work this year since some of us know the flaws of last year, and there's two houses that separate people even into the meet. We could also work out a no-lynch until D-x of the meet to give every a chance to participate?

Oh no, really??

I mean, anything helps. We do have hardwood floors in almost every room. I'm not discouraging not bringing sleeping bags if people can afford to, I just didn't want people flying from across boarders to worry about anything. :?

So our sleeping arrangements are as follows:
Glork's room: Mina, pirate mollie, malakittens, and kittymo
Upstairs couch bed: porochaz and CDB
Downstairs room (1 couchbed, 1-2 couches, 2 air mattresses): 5-6 guys
Ythan's room (floor space): 3 guys+Ythan
Another couch+maybe more floor space: Anyone else

Yaaay

In post 1255, chamber wrote:Can I suggest some sort of organized bathroom cleaning day at the halfway point in the meet. I'll even volunteer to do some of it. At past meets they've gotten pretty gross after 8 days :/.
Oh I'll be doing a house call clean up like every other day. At Scummer of Love I feel like I did a lot myself, but at one point I got so stressed out that several lovely people stepped up to do a trash sweep and clear up clutter. Last year at the Reckoning Hindu went on a cleaning binge one night, and the rest of us lingering cleaned up after everyone left.

I feel very strongly that we're all adults and know how to not trash people's houses, but fun happens and things get overlooked. That being said, I will NOT let my house be trashed and if one night gets out of hand, I have no problem being big, bad, momma bear and doing an early morning wake up call to fix the problem.

If everyone picks up after themselves it shouldn't be a problem. I'll be posting a list of general house rules/expectations (like anything in the fridge is up for grabs, rince dishes/reuse, etc). You'd think a lot of these things are common sense, but I've been proven wrong before. >_>

We have chili over here if/when people are coming over.

Playing closed setups/themed games.

It's one of the best nights of my life.

Oh yeah, so my manager called me today and I maybe got the promotion?

Except it won't be at the store I interviewed for. >_>

I swear...I've interviewed with 4 managers already, and now it'll be a fifth. Everyone says , "omg you're awesome, I only wish we had a position for you!" -_-

Although this last manager I'm meeting with apparently has a chip on her shoulder about her interview process, so she's already on my side, lol. She's the one I ultimately want to end up working for because she's going to be heading the store opening up right down the street in a few months. Good impressions, gogogo!

Finally, some words!

Reck: Not enough can be said about how amazing you are. I feel honored to have been able to co-host/semi-host/participate, what have you, for this meet. Moving here was one of the best decisions I/we have ever made, and I'm so glad to be able to call you a friend. Thank you for being the friend who I can meet up with months later and it's like nothing's changed. And for being my bitch-buddy cuz lord knows we all need one.

Brock: Ditto. No really. You and Reck fulfill the same and yet completely different friendship needs and I'm so glad you do. Here's to shitty employers and fighting for new jobs. <3

N: You really opened up towards the end there! Even though it seemed like you didn't like f2f mafia very much, I'm really glad you came and contributed to one of the best meets ever. Thanks for teaching me about geography and for agreeing to be my personal tour guide if/when we ever visit Australia.

Shea: Meeting for a second time was way better than the first because...we already met? Sorry for the struggles in getting down here, but I hope you find a way down again because you were the counterpoint to the meet we needed. It was awesome singing karaoke with you, and I'm sorry we never got to play euchre with chamber because that would've been AWESOME. I guess we'll just have to schedule it for another meet!

chamber: I don't even know what to say about you...only that I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to just hang out with you outside of mafia both in person or on the site. Thanks for the bits of cleaning you did around the house when I just didn't have the energy to do it myself. I hope it was easier than the incidents at SoL you ended up taking care of, lol. Also, watching Reck try to hug you was hilarious.

Axxle: As always, a pleasure to hang out and drink with. Thanks for letting me borrow your shoes just to see frost on the ground. And thanks for maybe letting us crash at your place again at the end of march...maybe?

malakittens: We didn't get to hang out as much as I would've liked, but I'm super impressed with your ability to read people in games. I would never doubt your read on at least three people, and it would always be right. You're a sweet, sweet person that I would love to get to know more and hang out with in the future.

kittymo: Ditto to mala. I don't know you that well on the site, and I wish I had the time/energy to hang out in the "girl room" more but hopefully you'll have the opportunity to visit/go to more meets in the future.

pirate mollie: Oh deary. You're a diamond in the rough. I love your outlook on life, and I feel that you can put it into words much better than I ever could. I'm so glad that you taught me that no matter what happens in a game, I can just let it go and be as merry as can be after. Thank you for loving my flaws and helping me love them, too, for they make me who I am. I can't wait to intertwine our lives more soon, and finally visit Asheville! ^_^

DeathNote: Ah, we meet once again! It's so nice running into scummers you'd never thought you'd see again. I'm so glad that you're always the one with the grin on his face being as happy as can be and making everyone feel this amazing fuzzy feeling in their gut when they see your face. Oh, and your setups suck.

cheery dog: It was nice seeing you open up more and do something other than cover your face with your beanie. :P I'm glad you kept playing f2f mafia even though your brother's a poop. Even though I could barely understand anything you said, I'm glad you found your way to our neck of the woods, and hope you can co-tour guide with N for us in Australia some day.

Mina: KARAOKE PARTNEEERS. Oh my gosh, it was the perfect way to end the meet, singing duets with such an amazing talent such as yourself. I hardly get the chance to enjoy myself in one of my favorite elements anymore. Thank you for constantly reassuring my paranoia about whether or not I'm a bad host, and just being a really amazing person overall. I pretty much count the days til the next scum meet to hang out with scummers like you again. <3

Pie: Piiiiieeeee. I don't know why I felt the need to say your name like that, but you somehow complete the commune in a way I'll never know how. Though we didn't hang out much since you were at the other house, I really appreciate the several times you were willing to go on a run, help out with things at PolyHaus, and the couple of conversations that reminded me what real people we all are. Don't be a stranger because seriously, you're the reason we all get together again and I couldn't be more grateful.

Fate: Thanks for taking care of the airport runs whenever everyone else was preoccupied/sleeping! You're always a character that would be missed, and somehow I still can't seem to figure out when you're lying or not...even though it's 100% of the time, I still think you're telling the truth. And then the few times you're telling the truth, I think you're fucking with us. It takes a real man to be able to do that. It's also a pleasant surprise to hearing you not shouting every now and then. ;)

Iecerint: I'm sorry we didn't get a proper goodbye when you got sick toward the end, and I hope you're feeling better by now. You're one of the hardest people to read in game, but are so genuine and honest outside of them. I appreciate your understanding and ability to move on to the next thing in any given moment.

Ythan: Thanks for sharing your room! Sorry about the stress about needing to find a place to live in the middle of it all+figuring out your car stuff+being forced to semi-host a meet. I felt like we didn't see you very often, but I'm glad that you jumped at the opportunity to hang out when you could.

UT: To echo the sentiments of Reck: it really is a testament to someone when the dynamic of a room or a meet changes when you're not there. Thanks for being one of the people who never makes me feel guilty about how much I drink due to downing an entire handle over the course of two weekends. I also really appreciate you being the person Glork knew he could go to for help with the proposal. We really do need to get back into commune hangouts because you sure do make a difference around here.

Dan: Thanks for always being the one to carry my scum team! I always felt reassured when you were on my scum team because you're one of the hardest people for me to read, and I hoped that'd be the same for everyone else, lol. Thanks for hanging out and for whatever your mom contributed to FagHaus.

Gamma: Geebus, you pretty much carried the meet outside of having 10-20 people in your house. Thanks for all the driving you did, museum, food runs, etc. It really contributed to things running smoothly and comfortably, along with your quirky disposition and dancing on chairs/couches for everyone's entertainment. We also still have your gps.

Nuwen: All of the pizzas! The drunken snacking food every good part needs. You seriously showed up at all the right time and in all the right places. I think I'm starting to read you better as town, which is nice because you're a good person to trust, both inside and outside of mafia. quadz and I have been trying to motivate ourselves to learn/do yoga, and it would be pretty nifty if you could help us find our zen. Monthly scummer cooking and yoga nights?

Kise: You should just move here! I'm sorry I forgot that we already met when I manipulated you in a game of mafia, and that I almost didn't recognize you once you shaved, even though you were the token black person of the meet...but I really liked worrying about your vegetarianism, and how calm you always seemed to be. You'd be a great addition to the commune. <3

Prozac: I hope we had a sufficient supply of alcohol at all times so you didn't have to dash off unexpectedly to find some. I'm glad we had the opportunity to meet up again, and hope it won't be the last time. I will always enjoy your company and calm meals where we can just hang out and talk...and also the getting drunk part.

AP: Man, I feel like I hardly saw you other than when you and Iec hydra'd. Thanks for volunteering to co-run the invitational, and for just overall being a really chill guy to be around. I hope you have fun in Ireland and take it as a sign that you should always go to every meet ever.

CDB: CDBeeeee. You were definitely the "stranger" I connected with the most this time around. We've been to two other meets together and yet I felt like collectively I felt like I got to know you the least. This meet changed that and I'm so glad it did. I super enjoyed hanging out with you and our one v one getting us to the perfect amount of drunk. I hope I can convince you to cheat the system with the rest of us, and maybe enjoy a nice summer/winter abroad in a place you'll always be welcome.

Faraday: Echoing my Mina-sentiments, I'm always counting down the days to the next meets when I know I can hang out with friends like you guys again. I'm so glad we've developed this little group of scummers that tend to just gravitate towards each other wherever we can. Thanks for always reassuring and encouraging me as a host, and for always making meets better and more enjoyable when you're around.

Desperado: I'm sad you only got to hang out for a couple of nights! But I'm so glad you did come for the time you could. I can't wait until we can actually get this monthly cooking (+yoga?) night started so we can hang out more, and with mollie, too!
Magua: I'm sad you only got to hang out for a couple of nights, too! I wish you could've hung out for longer, but we definitely made good use out of the weekend you were here. It was so nice to see you again, and I hope you take advantage of visiting in the future.

quadz/Glork: My partners in crime...I don't even know what I would've done without you to keep me going, like my little energizer batteries. You're the blood that keeps my heart pumping, and I'm sososo grateful to have you two by my side all the way, for hosting meets and in life. These guys were the heart and soul of the meet; it couldn't have happened without them.

Wow, I'm overwhelmed just reflecting on it all over again.

Memorable moments:
-crying in front of all of you in a really vulnerable moment and feeling this overwhelming sense of acceptance and comfort
-mollie's awesome massages that couldn't come at better moments
-1v1 with CDB
-karaoke with Mina
-last night dinner out
-killing the shit out of annoying little cheater-kids
-it kind of frosting a bit and pretending it was snow
-only getting three hours of sleep before work one morning
-every time we finally saw the other house each night ;)
-meeting kittymo, malakittens, desperado, N, cheery dog, and mollie for the first time
-realizing that of 30 total scummers, I had only met six new ones this meet
-Glork's proposal
-etc

Alternatively, someone could snag them from there and uploaded the pictures themselves. I don't know how to do it from my phone directly to mafiascum.
