Sounds like you hate Abbott almost as much as the Brits hate Cameron. Apparently the election result in 2013 was not so much a vote of confidence in Abbott but a vote of no confidence in Labour?
I know it's possible, but I have a really hard time imagining the Liberals rolling him, given how mercilessly they attacked Gillard over her leadership problems.-

Liberal MP to (apparently) move spill motion against party leadership, including Julie Bishop
Looks doubtful of going anywhere, but I suspect it will ruffle a few feathers at least.-

If I were Abbott, I'd go about obtaining a confidence motion from the caucus (or even Parliament if the Liberals have the requisite numbers) to claim my mandate. Snap elections are more a last resort sort of thing (if you can't pass a vital supply bill like the budget, for instance). If Julie Bishop does stand by him as she says she will, Abbott will probably be safe because the renegade backbenchers know the party would be toast otherwise. He needs to show his underlings who's boss.
And in the event that he lost an early election, what's the alternative? Bill Shorten, just on the heels of six years of Labour? I don't know if I really see him as PM material, although I suppose it would at least be an excuse to remove Bronwyn Bishop from the Speaker's chair.-

Strong-arming the caucus members into voting for you would only really serve to piss them off. Worse, it looks desperate.
It looks like he doesn't have much to lose, though.-
