Parents are away the first weekend :/ So cat sitting duty might be down to the automatic feeder. Or tricking one of my sisters coming back, but it regardless shouldn't be an issue. However if I am forced to come down in the back of a white van rather than my usual first class train, I will be pissed.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.-

I am about 80% sure its the dates in the first post. Which Im pretty sure is going to be roughly where everyone is at currently. It's when both the cottages we rent out are free and when our teachers able to make, so unless something crazy happens, I'd be looking at then.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.-

Here is the deal.
I am going to book this tomorrow as one of the large cottages we usually get is now taken. This means we get our one remaining large and a small, it isn't ideal, but it's not overly a problem. I have to pay around £280 deposit, (more if we need a second small one) which as a jobless bum is not great. So here is the deal.
We need, where possible, confirmation. It's a non refundable deposit, and Im pretty sure we will get use out of two cottages. So I am happy to book those. The third Im only happy to book if we need it and I won't do that until I have enough confirmation to warrant it. But obviously the longer we wait, the less likely it will be available. I understand that 5 and a half months might be way to early for some and Im sorry!
The second thing is, I need cash, if you are willing to help with the deposit, then great! Please help. I can give people my email for paypal and then that money will come off the price of the cottages later down the line. I have a number of people willing to help already, so wouldn't work out to be that much but if I can spread the cost around a bit then its less of a pain for everyone involved.
Sorry guys, sucky news BUT it's solvable!Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.-

Loved seeing you guys again. Had a great time as always and am going to try my very best to come to anything that happens later in the year.
My thoughts on the weekend are well documented. My big issue is that despite the protests that they spent hours and days playtesting these games, that was shown to either be very poor or not true.
- The thought going into this was the games were going to be competitive ones with a social/friendly atmosphere. Like Tokaido, Ticket to Ride (which was there to be fair), nothing overly taxing but still requires skill and stratedy to win, what we got was a lot of munchkin/things that could have been munchkin. (save/kill dr lucky)
- Almost all my games were decided by die roll day 1. It took the fun right out of it. Concept I could have come first or last through that. Other games were decided on random rules made outwith the games set rules, and felt arbitrary and weren't always explained beforehand.
- Time limits were awful and arbitrary, it caused 1st places to turn into lasts(for both cdb and myself), they weren't blanket enforced, and meant that - again - arbitrary rules to decide who won came into effect.
- The biggest thing day 2 was the fact they removed a board game because it was too difficult/took too long and replaced by a game that noone knew the rules too, was flawed once we worked out the rules, for 5 players when most groups only had 4. All of this should have been realised in play testing.
I worry I have complained too much, I'm frustrated but I want everyone to know that I mostly had a positive experience - I enjoyed my time with you guys immensely, the crystal maze, whilst not what was expected was a fun night. The people I played with day 1 and that social board game room in general was great, as I think the problems we had unified us a bit. Whilst I thought the games were mostly too light, games like The Haunting House, Machi Koro, Camel Cup, Chrononaughts were great fun and I would have had a great time if we had played them with the proper rules. Even the people organising our group seemed lovely and were trying to bend over backwards to ensure everyone had a lovely time and were obviously getting upset when things went wrong.
As Patrick said, it must be a mammoth thing to organise, even down to the specific groups. I think the key things are that they needed to look at a wider variety of games, less games overall and making the rules as clear as possible before playing them, explaining what happens in the event of ties etc. Having a bit of a troubleshooting session before the day would have helped as well, which would have lead to a backup boardgame or two. That way they could have been less stressed and had a bit more security when things did go wrong (like being a few staff members down) It would have made it more fun for everyone.
I would definitely go again next year, although would be interested in trying another category.

I have meet stuff to say as well. But thats enough from me for now.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.
