So congratulations!

Why, thank you!
I'm from South America. The Portuguese speaking part, to be more precise.

Anyone else? Sure this is an English-language forum, but it's surely big enough to be more international than that... right? :?

Hey there, Zulfy!

Advice 1: Unless you're serious about Brasil, I'd suggest learning Spanish instead. More speakers and a little more regular/easier to learn.

Advice 2: If you're set on Portuguese, have you tried watching novelas? They're one of our major cultural exports, so there must be some way to watch them in your country.

By Latino, I thought you meant ethnicity, that your ancestors were from the region, not necessarily that you already spoke a language. But all the better - until you're more fluent, you can easily get by with portunhol. :P

I'm not a big novela fan, actually, so I don't have many suggestions.
The best ones are from TV Globo. It's a shady corporation with a shady past, but they've got more technology and the money to hire the best actors.
Caminho das Índias is good if you want to laugh at Western stereotypes of India.
A Casa das Sete Mulheres is good too, it's about a 19th century southern rebellion.
I don't know how available it is, being from the 80s, but Roque Santeiro is probably the greatest classic.
And we've had a bunch of Emmy winners lately, maybe there's something you like in this list.
Hth.

Btw, it's an admirable goal, but what's wrong with women from your country?

I can read Spanish, but would end up writing in a crazy Portuguese-Spanish hybrid.
It would be either a terrible game or an awesome one.

: I don't understand this traditional rivalry either. I've only been to Buenos Aires, but it's a beautiful city and most people are really nice. Except in the most touristic places like La Florida and El Caminito, when like a million people come from nowhere and try to sell you some thing. :P

@Zulfy: Maybe you already know this, but there's a strange rivalry between Brazil and Argentina that comes from looong ago. Since the 19th century independences there have been disputes for continental leadership between them. Until the 70s or 80s, Brazilian military considered Argentina its number 1 potential enemy. And even today most Brazilians will openly say they don't like Argentina, though most aren't very serious about it.

We also have a lot of Argentinian jokes, where the Argentines are stereotyped as insufferably smug people.
A boy from Argentina talks to his father:
- Dad, dad, when I grow up I wanna be just like you!
- Thanks, son. Smart choice! Why is that?
- Because then I can have a son just like me!

For you too? Yeah, this summer's been awful. Around 30º every day, except when it rains.
I'd much prefer having 14º now. A bit cold, enough to put an extra blanket in bed, but no big deal.

Oh yes, Uruguayans don't like Argentinians either. I once had a Spanish professor from Uruguay who loved to say Argentinians had stolen a lot of "real Uruguayan things", like Carlos Gardel and I don't know what else.

A Brazilian, an Uruguayan and an Argentinian find a magic lamp. The genie splits the wishes, giving one to each.
The Uruguayan: "Transform Uruguay into an island and send it anywhere, as long as it's far from Argentina". And the genie does so.
The Argentinian: "Make a high and unbreachable wall around all of Argentina so we don't have to mix with these inferior foreigners anymore". And the genie does so.
The Brazilian: "Hey, genie? Is that wall really high?" "Yes, it is." "Is it really unbreachable?" "Yes, it is."
"FLOOD THAT SHIT!"

(Sorry, couldn't resist. We also have dumb Portuguese jokes. Who do you tell jokes about in Argentina?)

Here, we call that drink "chimarrão" if it's only hot water and erva mate. If other things are added (usually other herbs to make it sweeter), it's "mate".

Bonjour,
Felissan
. Hélas, je ne parle pas français. Je lis, mais seulement un peu.

I see you have good taste in webcomics, btw. The page you took your sig from is one of my favorites. Tarquin = best villain.

This.

Or even funnier, a theme game with this post restriction: each player can only post in a language chosen randomly by the mod. Google Translator Mafia!
