hmm
ok

I'll edit this post as a project log.

Step one
was to scrape all the stuffs from the song contest wiki. I did this by highlighting and c/ping. It was great. In general the script should operate on whatever songlist.txt one includes in the same folder as the script.

Step two
is to do a youtube search for each song using its title and artist. Google explains how to do this with python here: https://developers.google.com/youtube/v ... by_keyword

The problem, though, will be searches that return the wrong song, or no song at all. However, I've found in some test searches that most songs that have performed well in the song contest are the first result of a search for their title and artist. It might be easier to fix songs as people hear the playlist and notice something's wrong than to go through the trouble of automating verification. If not, that can be added later.

Step three will be to enable some kind of filtering. We don't want all the songs on the list - just the good ones! One way to do that is by its place in its own contest (maybe, the top 3 of each contest? Or the best?). Another is by selecting some kind of score threshold (a threshold of even 100 would make a pretty hefty song list). Or one could do a mix of both. Or I could make multiple playlists. I will. I really will.
