I've been working a lot in Unity3D, but is unreal better? If not what is the best 3D engine in your opinion

What if you don't own a cash register? :?

I prefer unreal, everything is pretty by default, and you don't even need to know how to code thanks to blueprint (although you can still use c++ if you want). Also the liscence is cheaper than unity.

Unity is good too though, it really comes down to personal preference

Kinda funny this post appears when I was about to make something similar.

I've been messing about in Multimedia Fusion and other clickteam products for over a decade now, but I'm finding all my ideas are outgrowing the engine. I have game ideas pouring off me that I would really like to pursue but unfortunately I don't know how to code.

Basically I'm looking at Unity. I know there are probably a billion tutorials on the net and such, but I'd rather speak to someone who has experience. A few questions, then;

1) What's the best place to start with learning Unity? Specific tutes or youtube clips etc.
2) What are the engine's limitations? If I wanted to create an RTS, for example, would it have any problem handling hundreds of units at a time? (ignoring graphical limitations, I'm not aiming for the prettiest game in the world)
3) How user friendly is the Unity interface? How long did it take to get used to working in the environment? How easy is it to get to exactly where you want to be?
4) If not Unity, then what?

I'm leaning in this direction because it's object-oriented, which is very similar to what I'm used to. But any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. I'm a little intimidated to be honest. I have around 5 months of no uni or no massive work on the horizon, so if I wanted to give this whole game-making lark a real run, this is the time. I really do think I have games that people would love to play, so if I can boss Unity I might just give some people some funtimes, which would be pretty great.

Anyway, get at me.

1. Personally, I just google individual things that I need to know, and never really read through tutorials.
2. I think that would primarily depend on the efficiency of your own code. The engine should preform fine, theoretically
3. The interface is OK, in about a month of hard work you will probably know your way around it no problem
4. Unreal engine 4, basically. At least those are the only two I would consider working with as an amateur developer

Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert and have yet to release a game, but I have casually worked with unity since late 2013, and UE4 since September.

Torque is an under-appreciated engine in my opinion. It's been around since at least 2001 in various lineages, being used to power many fast-paced multiplayer games such as Tribes 2 which was state-of-the-motherflipping-art when it came out. As a result, it's mature and the netcode that comes with is well optimized.

They've been upgrading it and releasing new versions ever since, but they just keep the name.

Frozen Synapse was also built on torque, IIRC.
One's self-meta cannot be known without invalidating it.

I worked in torque in high school, it's just overly complex
