Is it actually good? It looks like another weird stoner adult swim thing, so I've been hesitant to try.

I hate those kinds of shows. Bojack Horseman is fantastic and deceptively has a lot of depth.

The first four episodes suck, a lot of the humor falls flat in them, but after that it's great.

It reminds me more of californication than any of those.

I loved Sense8 (for the record, I hated Jupiter ascending).
This series is heavy on character development, which I personally love, but it's light on action. If you're waiting for action, you'll be waiting some more, because most of that is in the 2nd half of the season. The action scenes that are there are great though, it's awesome when the characters are getting a grasp of their situation, and use it to help each other out. But the series also have plenty of moments of pure director indulgement, simply because they can get away with it on Netflix, I'm perfectly fine with that. I didn't have to see everything of that, but I can also appreciate them wanting to get a message across and not holding back. Apart from that, some character arcs aren't as interesting as the others, or they take a longer time to take off.

I actually think all of the arcs are really interesting - it's also cool how they're able to use the unique structure to play each story as almost a different genre. Wolfgang's story is a heist / gangster film. Lito's is practically a sitcom. etc etc etc

Also can I just say that
the scene where they are at the symphony with them all seeing their own births totally had me crying, especially when it was Capheus's turn, that guy does the BEST happy tears.

The characters and their development are interesting and I do think they are very well-written, BUT give me a sense of the premise FIRST so I know how to relate these stories with it. Otherwise I'm just going... "Uh.... so what's the point? What's the message I'm supposed to be getting here?"

3 episodes in and D asked me how the show was and what it was about and I literally could not provide an answer. I have no idea what the show is about.
