it's not the worst idea, but most will know your financial planner can't actually give them anything it's you who they have to convince.

I usually just go onto my bank's phone app when I need to consult my financial planner, and then my financial planner tells me I cannot afford anything.

you can help people, but you have to do it intelligently. Set up a trust for your family, pay off their current debt, and don't actively give them money outside of that. If you're getting $600m post-tax, setting up a series of $2m trusts for even a large extended family might cost you $40m. It's not going to bankrupt you. It's having them convince you to "invest" in their shitty ideas, give them ever more money to keep up with an ever expanding lifestyle that will bankrupt. That's obviously also an issue for you personally, but you're just one person.

Give to a charity or charities rather than individually help every random sadsack. You're almost certainly helping people more as long as you don't give to something like the komen foundation.

"The Powerball drawing on March 30, 2005 produced 110 second-prize winners. The total payout to these winners was $19.4 million, with 89 winners receiving $100,000 each, while the other 21 winners received $500,000 each as they were Power Play selections.
MUSL officials initially suspected fraud or a reporting error. However, all 110 winners had played numbers from fortune cookies made by Wonton Food Inc. of Long Island City, New York. The factory had printed the numbers "22, 28, 32, 33, 39, 40" on thousands of fortunes."

Or - and hear me out - you could open up a card-printing business and start mass-producing Mafiascum decks.

yknow if i win the drawing i probably wouldn't tell the family immediately
i'll like secretly fly home or something and the abruptly call mom and act like im a really bad place in life make them worry
everyone will ask me what's wrong as they drive me home and i will just be silent and sad and maybe crying if i can pull it off
and at the very end of the trip i will start laughing like a maniac
i just won't stop
and then i'll tell them and they won't believe me because me totally ruining my life is that much more probable than me winning the lottery

the only people who should know if you win the lottery immediately is your spouse and your lawyer.

"I would give my money to the vets. ... She would give hers to herself."
In an interview on Erin Burnett OutFront, Donald J. Trump said he would use a $1.5 billion ‪#‎Powerball‬ jackpot differently than Hillary Clinton if he were to win it. http://cnn.it/1UQmb6i

I'll be your lawyer in the event of a jackpot lottery win for a measly .1% take of your newfound wealth.

also sure. in the event you win the jackpot and I become your lawyer earning me roughly 600k, you can hold me accountable if you go bankrupt within 5 years.
