Buffalo is unaffected.

If it had affected us, I imagine it would just be typical Buffalo winter.

I'm in Missouri. Is that close enough to the action?

That's pretty much my thoughts a few hours East. My brother in law is in Tennessee, but from here and he's laughing at the people freaking out. Sent us a picture and you couldn't tell it had snowed. Got a friend in Brooklyn who lived here for a few years who says he "risked his life" walking to work and posted a video on facebook. I told him it didn't look too bad and he says it's because I'm from crazy upstate. The weather channel showed a video in DC and I didn't think it was bad until I saw the way idiots were driving. Also heard a story that someone died plowing snow (obviously that's tragic, may he RIP, prayers for family) and I have no idea how that even happens. There was one crazy picture from Baltimore though showing how high the snow was when someone opened their front door (and to be fair that should have been shoveled multiple times by then and it's clear that it wasn't).

So basically, the fact that people aren't used to snow there is a bigger deal than the snow itself.

I'm not sure what the laws are concerning snowfall vs staying out of school here, but it's already snowed like three times, and everything seems to be going alright.

I'm from Georgian though, so as soon as I saw snow, I promptly flipped the fuck out. I know the last time I was around when it snowed in Georgia (maybe about 2 years ago?), my mom almost got in a wreck driving my foster bros home from school.

People from the south don't know how to drive on icy roads - it's literally unlike anything I've ever experienced, real talk. I think most of the problem is that we try to drive on them like we would in wet, rainy weather. Obviously that's a mistake, but we don't know that!

My area of north east ohio is untouched (Ohio pa border area). I can see grass without snow on it outside my house. Further south ohio (Ohio west V border area) though is getting 3-4 inches i heard

Manasas (a suburb of DC) got 30 inches in ~24 hours.

It was pretty crazy.

Where I am we only got like 26 inches.

New Jersey here, we got a bit over a foot of snow, not quite 2 feet.

Idk, it's snow. I have a long driveway that had to be shoveled before I could drive so I was stuck for a day. Nbd I'm a hermit anyway, idk why people panic about this shit. Just don't be dumb.

The flooding at the shore is definitely the worst of that storm.

We don't have the infrastructure down here to deal with snow/ice/etc. It's like how NY/NJ were fucking crushed by Hurricane Sandy, whereas down here we're so used to Hurricanes we have the entire response system down pat and will just go sit outside and enjoy a hurricane instead.

Yeah when I lived in NY it was amusing how much they freaked out about Hurricanes. Course I'm use to them living in Florida right now.

As an upstater I don't get the hubbub about hurricanes below cat 4. It's just wind and rain.

There was a lot of damage from Sandy up here, though. Whole towns with waterlines up past the first floor. Surreal shit.

Yeah expect the weather to always be shit and then you won't be disappointed.

And occasionally pleasantly surprised.

Really? Sandy barely hit us and I'm closer to the coast than you are. Although we got some insane flooding from other storms 2-3 years ago. Flooding is definitely the worst part of hurricanes in NY.

Hurricanes are weird.

When Irene went up to New England, it completely destroyed Vermont. Meanwhile, NH was just hit with very heavy wind and rains.

Like, I was barely on the NH side of the Connecticut River, and it was manageable, but towns in Vermont 15-20 miles away got super destroyed.
