Movie was real bad in fairness. Honestly think the asshole misogynists sort lf made it hard to trash the movie without looking like a sexist. Hilariously enough i think that raised its critical reception

i posted my review somewhere else, but the tldr is Feig can't direct action to save his ass and that's where the movie failed so if he steps aside from the sequels and gets Lord/Miller or Edgar Wright in to direct I think they'll be astounding

I have no idea how you think the heart of the film works. The relationship between the two was not earned at all especially for that ending. I think the performances were all great they were just acting in a soulless poorly written/directed trainwreck

The editing of this movie was also unbearable. Things were called back to that didn't exist?

I said it was tacked on and only served to give the film an emotional throughline?

i also thought the attempt to put backstories/emotions/connection into the characters was a nice touch considering the original was basically "here are four guys"

They actually had a script, had a natrual pace that also let you laugh, defined roles and actual comedy(last one is objective).

Yeh paul feig is shit. But I also think melissa mccarthy acting was subpar compared to the other actors. She also didn't help advertising with her blaming any criticism on sexism. She played was bigger joke out the movie than in the movie.

I am pretty sure recent ghost busters had a script.

A remake of a beloved-but-mostly-for-nostalgia-reasons movie is always going to face a pretty strong headwind. That's particularly true for a comedy rather than an action movie (I know both the original and new ghostbusters had action sequences, but it's definitely not an action movie).

I mean look at this list of comedy remakes by gross with the Rotten Tomato Score:
  1. The Longest Yard (31%)
  2. Doctor Doolittle (43%)
  3. Cheaper by the Dozen (24%)
  4. The Nutty Professor (64%)
  5. Ghostbusters (2016) (73%)
  6. Mr. Deeds (22%)
  7. You've Got Mail (69%)
  8. Fun with Dick and Jane (29%)
  9. Freaky Friday (88%)
  10. Just Go With It (18%)
  11. Flubber (23%)
  12. Father of the Bride (73%)
  13. The Pink Panther (22%)
  14. Father of the Bride Part II (48%)
  15. The Parent Trap (86%)
Other than maybe Father of the Bride, you're not looking at a series of new classics here. The best reviewed movies are remakes from before the 80s intended for younger audiences (and feature lindsay lohan): Freaky Friday and The Parent Trap. You've Got Mail was kind of successful as a movie because it took the older movie and made it about something contemporary (although that dates it now). The list makes me realize just how successful Adam Sandler has been at phoning it in for the last decade+.

It was more guidelines they improved a lot of scene till paul feig was happy meaning scenes didn't link. The cafe scene was improved and it took a whole day of them talking random shit before they stuck with one.

In the summer we watched the original on DVD, then went to the remake at the theater the next day. The remake was actually better. It slowed down a little at the end, but aside from that it was funnier. We still end up throwing a line from it out every time we get Chinese food.
