2016 Oscar Discussion

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sun Feb 28, 2016 9:04 am

The oscars are my superbowl, and I figured there would be some people here who want to have a pool/discussion about potential winners.

My predictions are
Best Picture: The Big Short
Should win: Mad Max: Fury Road

Director: George Miller (maybe Innarutu?)
Should Win: George Miller

Actor In Leading Role: Leo Dicaprio
Should Win: Leo

Actress In Leading Role: Brie Larson (This movie was great. She carried it and delivered an insanely good performance.)
Should Win: Brie Larson

Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone
Should Win: ROCKY

Supporting Actress - This one is interesting and hugely competitive. Alecia Vikander had an insanely good year with Ex Machina AND Carol. Whether that is enough to win or not, I'm not too sure. Shes my pick, though.

Animated: Inside out, easy.

Cinematography: The Revenant. Seriously beautiful movie. Every shot is like a work of art IMO
Other Contender: Mad Max

Production Design/Visual Effects/Editting/Costumes: Mad Max: Fury Road

Music: Hateful Eight

Adapted Screenplay: Big Short, easy. This is a masterpiece of a script. Should have been insanely boring...and it was super exciting, funny etc.

Original Screenplay: Spotlight
Should win: Ex Machina

Anyways, I am SO excited. This'll be an interesting year for sure. If Mad Max snags best picture, I'll be incredibly happy.

Best picture will be interesting. Revenant, big short and spotlight all have a shout I think.

I dont really see anyone else but DiCaprio winning. Maaaybe Magneto? But even that'd surprise me given Leo's momentum.
are you thinking of me when you're with somebody else?

My hope is it *isn't* revenant. Its really good but I think it is worse than Spotlight/TBS/Mad Max

Do you think that Miller will beat Inarritu? I don't.

Everyone just forgets that Alicia Vikander was also in
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
, which was also very good.

The whole race issue really took over the show. Here's the Academy saying "We're not racist AT ALL, just look at all the black people we got!" It even managed to overshadow Biden, a powerful performance by Lady Gaga and sexual assault victims all together.

The stupid thing about this is that this would have been great if it wasn't such a forced response to the controversy. It was really unsubtle.

On another note, Leo finally got an oscar. I haven't watched the Revenant so it makes me wonder if he really deserved it or if they gave in to the pressure. Even if he deserves it, the stupid memes and fan pressure kinda take away the sweet taste of victory. At least now I'll never have to hear or read someone crying about Leo not having an Oscar.
