I thought it was because of anonymity and such, but we already know most of each other's countries.

I mean I haven't been doing the contest for

that

long but I have some ideas on this.

For one, the countries

do

shift from time to time. Hungary was only Plot for a bit, then it switched, it might switch back. People will pick up one country for a while then change to another. Or sometimes somebody will stop doing the song contest and then somebody else will pick up their country.

Two, it takes a while to do enough song contests to where you know who typically uses each country. I've been doing it since I think SC92 and there are still a few countries where I know I always see the same person use it but I can't remember who it is.

Three, even when I do always know who's behind a country, I feel like the simple obfuscation of the username behind the country separates the song from that person in my head. I think of it like, "oh this is the song that X country submitted," not "this is from x person."
