+1 for the Total Recall comment. That was abysmal. I literally don't know how they screwed it up as bad as they did. I even liked the basic premise of how they showed the space elevator and all that... but the story-telling was so completely disjointed and confusing. Also, that's a movie I would point anyone to that wants to see an example of horrible cinematography. One of most poorly shot films I've ever seen. I hope the DP earned a Raspberry for that one.

Here's the remake rule. if the original is awesome. Don't touch it. If the original had a good premise badly executed, then remake it.

Total Recall - Don't remake.
Judge Dredd - Yes, remake it.
Robocop - No.
Punisher - Sure.
Red Dawn - er... uh, well. um. No, it's just a bad premise to begin with.

If you eliminate all the game show cheese (c'mon, an opera guy? Really?) Running Man has potential to be gritty and awesome.

I loved (the original) Red Dawn! The remake was a disaster though. I agree with your sentiment nonetheless. A darker, grittier Running Man would be a-okay in my book. More styled like Blade Runner or something.

Just for the record, I do not hate all remakes. The Ladykillers, The Departed, Invasion of the Body Snatchers... loved all of these. I'm sure there are plenty more.
