5 is the bestest number to play BSG with, so.
Also, spilling my character selection strategy (assuming that this is just the base game like Sudo's other thread):
- If it is my turn to pick a character, and no one has picked Laura Roslin, Gaius Baltar, or Tom Zarek: Pick Tom Zarek.
- Otherwise, if no one has picked Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, Lee "Apollo" Adama, or Sharon "Boomer" Valerii: Pick Sharon "Boomer" Valerii.
- Otherwise welp, no automatic selection for me, but prooooooobably going to lean towards Karl "Helo" Agathorn or Sharon "Boomer" Valerii (because god do I like playing as Boomer)-

Fivesecondminute overview: There's three types of characters: political leaders, military leaders, and pilots. There's also Chief Galen Tyrol who is support.
You want at least one of each of the three groups. Things will be bad if we don't have at least one of each. Since there's five of us, we want either 2:2:1 or 2:1:1+Galen. 3:1:1 is probably bad and should be avoided. Again, not having one of the groups is *superbad* and should *definitely* be avoided.
So my character selection plan is:
- If we don't have a political leader already, pick Tom Zarek.
- If we already have a political leader but we don't have a pilot, pick Sharon "Boomer" Valerii.
- If we already have a political leader and we already have a pilot, I don't want to automatically pick. But, as a heads up, I'll probably pick Helo or Boomer if they're available.
(My character selections are because they fit my playstyle, not necessarily that Zarek is the best political leader or Boomer the best pilot. Starbuck, eg, is almost certainly the best pilot. But damn do I love some Boomer.)
Since you've never played and are picking fourth, I'd say: See if we're missing a group when it's your turn, and if we are, pick from that group. If we're not missing a group, well. Pick who you want.-

Because I don't particularly want to play a military leader.
If neither Bipolar or Aegon want to play a military leader, then I will, but if either of them wants to then I'd rather they do.

(Also annoyed at a system that allows 4th or 5th player more choice of characters and more types than 3rd, but that's mostly tangential.)-

I don't want to bemore of athe dick here. If Aegon (or whoever is going to take Aegon's slot) doesn't want to play a military leader, I'll take Helo. I just think the method specified in the rulebook of limiting character picks is terribad, which is likely why I've never, ever, ever used it. =P-

@FWTJR: I hope you're ok with not being President. Thinking atm Boomer should be.-

So there is! Well, Sudo can nevermind that then.

Because Laura Roslin is objectively the worst person to be president because ofcancerreasons.-

You're a political leader. Four-fifths of your reason for existing is to dump cards into skill checks. In terms of sheer quorum output, we'd be much better off if you just XO'd the president than being president yourself (3 Quorum cards + 1 Quorum card drawn or played - 1 card for the XO, vs you doing it being 1 Quorum card + 1 Quorum card drawn or played - 2 skill cards).
The only people with useful inherent actions are the pilots, tbqh.
For actions you can do, you can XO and you can consolidate power.
For actions I can do, I'm going to be XO'ing people pretty much every turn.-

FWTJR is correct. You want to launch in a viper to 5 o'clock and then move to 3 o'clock where the civvies are.-

Looks like impeaching Laura Roslin and making Boomer the President will have to wait.
Move to Communications
Play Executive Order (1) on animorpherv1
You can move to 1 o'clock and then use a maximum firepower on the raiders there.-

We don't want to lose this. You should have two cards you can play into this check (one engineering and one tactics).
Tactics card should go in.
Engineering card should *probably* go in, though if it's a Repair it may be worth it to repair weapons control with it instead. You're likely the only person in a position to do this (animorpherv is going to stay in space and shoot at shit and neither FWTJR nor I draw engineering cards).
But we kinda-sorta-really want to pass this check.-

Useful things BC can do:
- Repair weapons control
- Launch scout to check the crisis deck and bury the next crisis if it doesn't have a jump prep symbol
- If you've got a bunch of evasive maneuvers, jump in a viper and head to 9.-

You can't move and attack. If you have a bunch of evasive maneuvers, you could go to 9, and then if raiders activate, they'll shoot at you and hopefully miss a bunch of times. The point there would be to delay them from attacking the civvie ship in 7.
Unlike Starbuck, there's no intrinsic advantage to you being ins pace, so you jumping in a viper and hanging out in 7 doesn't do all that much.-

Def XO BC if he has a maximum firepower.
Otherwise, I'd probably XO animorph, just to ensure that he doesn't start his turn in Sickbay.-

If you've got an action card in your hand, Ani, it may be worth it to do that (eg Launch Scout). Otherwise, it may be worth it to move back to 3 so you can attack the heavy raider on your turn (if it hasn't moved).-

Remember you get two actions this turn because you started in space.
Possible things to do:
- Draw Leadership, hope for XO to use on BC
- Draw Engineering, hope for a repair that you'll use at some point that's not now
- Move to 5 and shoot the heavy raider
- Mysterythirdfourth option-

I think it is high time to reconsider Ani's expert pilot status.

Also, I don't care about this check at all.Pass.
We're going to have a Centurion on our ship. That's going to be super-bad-times-that'll-need-to-be-rectified-immediately-and-will-need-all-the-Strategic-Plannings-and-Executive-Orders. FYI.-

Useful things I can think of for you and BC to do while there's no enemy ships around:
- Repair Weapons Control
- Make one of you the President at Administration (only after weapons control is repaired)
- Launch Scout
- Go to Research Lab and draw a card
- Go to Press Office and draw 2 cards-

Play 4 cards
Most, but not all. Also destiny, etc.
Ani, note you'll be needing to discard cards at the end of this turn (hand limit is 10). So any spare tactics you have shouldl be played into the check.-
