Of course I'm /in.

I asked at the end of last year but never got a response. Would anyone have an issue with my fiance playing due to our normal league folding? Obviously, we'd occasionally be on the same computers so the reason I ask is I don't want people thinking that for some reason I want to try to get away with playing in Leagues 1 and 3 at the same time.

She won't flake. She's played fantasy football for 3 or 4 years now. Just waiting on approval for her account. It said it was flagged for being associated with another account that she never really ended up using. We'll both be away for a few days though. Going camping.

Is that to me? All I'm saying is that these divisions guarantee that someone who won a League 1 division last year won't make the playoffs. Typically, it's more fun if divisions are balanced and the best thing we have to measure strength is last year's finish (although obviously there are variables). I mean, to be honest last year was fun knowing that I had to top Rob and IS (both top five teams who were in my division) to get there so being able to go on a huge run and end up in the Super Bowl was huge. But a balanced league is a fair league and that's more what we usually go for here.

Hmm. Well if we did it the traditional way, hascow is the only former L1 champ who is in L1 this year and could be placed with Tally and IS. If you go to L2 champs, Panzer won it last year, but if you want to keep all four of the players who moved up together, it would be me from the year before. The "rest of the vets" group would be Locke, Zoraster, Nero, and Rob. Or if Panzer were placed in with the "Adventurers" division, the "newcomers" division would be short one and maybe Rob (L3 champ in 2013) would occupy that spot?

So we either have:
Tally, IS, Hascow, Kmd
Panzer, Agar, Flameaxe, TBone
Zoraster, Nero, Locke, Rob

Or:
Tally, IS, Hascow, Panzer
Rob, Agar, Flameaxe, TBone

If you want to promote rivalries, I feel like the second option has an "other vet" group that played in L2 a lot and really represents the group who worked their way into L1 in the last 2-3 years. The "newcomers" division has done the same in the last 1-2 years with Rob, Flameaxe, and TBone coming all the way up fromL3. Then there are the four who have played every year since at least 2007. I mean, Locke has been in L1 for a while and Panzer has been back and forth so you could maybe even switch the two of them. I think I've played in the same league as Panzer more than Locke anyway, so rivalry wise, that might be better.

I dunno. Just a few ideas. I'm really cool with whatever people decide. It's just fun to play around with ideas.

Yes. Although there might be one division opponent you'll only play once if I'm not mistaken. Pretty sure we usually go 13 weeks, so in a 12 team league, you have 11 opponents. Play everyone once then two more weeks against two of your three division rivals. I could be wrong, but that's what I seem to remember for most 12 team leagues I've been in with three divisions.

I was just gonna say this. Well this and that Manziel doesn't play defense, so he doesn't factor in to my decision.

Rob, matchups mean a ton to me with QBs. I figured Buffalo's pass rush would be too much for that O-line and Brady would have a long day full of mistakes and very little success. I'm also a bit of a Pats/Brady hater though so I'm mostly looking for an excuse to turn to someone else lol. But yeah, I saw the matchups, thought no brainer, and made a 12 point mistake in a game where I was beat by about 50 anyway. Lesson learned and hopefully I get it right when it counts.

This is a bigger question is L1 than in L2 or L3.

I was once in a league where people stopped playing and they had to vacate all of their wins and got stuck at 0 wins at the end of the year. Then we were supposed to hold a "draft" for their players, but it really turned into "who can be online when the commissioner releases the players into the wild". I was working so I missed out. It was one of the shittiest situations I've witnessed in fantasy (although I remember one that was worse off the top of my head). Pretty sure the commissioner got everyone he wanted of course.

Maybe let whoever from L2 was closest to being in L1 have it. Probably wouldn't change too much as far as people moving up and down. The only thing is they'd have to still care about their L2 team and if they don't perform too well in L2, but manage a 7th or 8th place finish with Panzer's team, it becomes questionable where they belong next year. I dunno. I don't really have much to offer except thinking and typing what comes to mind. I'm sure mith and zoraster have better ideas, but maybe they can use my input a little.

Didn't we do something in baseball where someone in the league takes over with full intent to try to win and never manages the team against themself? Downside to that though is waivers because you'd want players for your own team and not try to get them on his team. Or at least not the best ones.

Lost in two leagues, including this one, simply because I had to work Sunday. I'd have started Rawls if I knew Lynch was out. To make it worse, in the other league, I started Lynch and had Rawls on my bench. The last update I saw before going in to work was that Lynch was "on the probable side of questionable". Figured he'd play, but I knew it was a guessing game so I guess it's partially on me. Still though, if I guessed he was out, I don't think I'd start Rawls knowing he MIGHT play. I'd have to know and that just wasn't possible two hours before kickoff.

If I'm looking at this right, after probably having the top score this week, I'll have the fifth highest total. I'll have more points than every team in the voodoo division meaning a team with less total points than me will be in the playoffs. And I probably will be relegated. And Panzer who started Sam Bradford this week has a better record than me. I also notice I still have the most points against. Is it fair to chalk this year up to bad luck or have I earned my 4-8 record?

I'm starting to legitimately think I have a slight hope to not get relegated. I have my total points working for me. All I have to do is upset the top team in the leavgues and win another tough one after that and as long as everything else plays out in my favor, I can finish 7th or 8th.

The idea of divisions isn't that they are more fair (although I've learned from this thread that some people think they are?). It's that it's more fun. If you are 6-6 and there is no shot at making the playoffs, but you're pretty safe from relegation, you might get careless. Because why bother? But if you are 6-6 and tied for a division lead, you're going right down to the wire. Championships tend to go to teams that deserve it most of the time anyway. But yeah, just like the fact that we play head to head and not roto, it's just more fun. Even the relegation system adds to it. I mean, I'm 4-8 and I care more about this league than most of my others right now. If it didn't matter, I probably wouldn't have just won against Rob because I'd leave the better pickups for the past month to people who have a shot to do something and focus on my teams that are in playoff races right now. I mean, yeah, I always play to win. But I put extra time in where I really care.

Eh. Depends. I'm not really sure how mith was viewing it, but I kind of assumed he's still considered 8th place, but not given a L1 spot for 2016 rather than a true DQ and 12th place. I should probably stay out of any debates on that though because it affects me directly which creates a bias.
