For being a Clue-playing robot, Aronis sure is slow.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

Goddamn it. Given that it was my suggestion, I'm claiming partial credit.

If I'm wrong, my observations and cards won't help me any more, so:

I think that the following cards are held:

Blackberry: Colonel Mustard
Cluebot: Candlestick, Ballroom, Billiard Room
Sudo_Nym: Professor Plum, Rope, Library
Aronis: Knife, Kitchen
RedCoyote: Lead Pipe

My own cards were Mrs. White, Miss Scarlet and the Conservatory.

This tells me that there were at least 5 instances of people asking about cards they already had. You sneaky, sneaky players.

Also, everyone asked about the library, except the person who had it. Apparently, we're all a bunch of nerds. Hooray for us.

p-edit: @Sudo: I think you do deserve credit, but I want to point out that I still had to figure out that you didn't hold any of those cards yourself. Or at least, I think you don't, otherwise, I'm eliminated.

No, I know for a fact that your accusation was correct. That's why I'm upset. Also, because your accusation was exactly my suggestion this round.

Wow.
That's... kind of cheap.
And also probably the issue with simultaneity?
I think they both deserve the win.

If I had been online first, I, too, would have known the solution. Does that mean I should win too?

@JDGA: Are you saying it's cheap because the solution was identical to Sudo's suggestion? Because that was not enough, in itself, for me to make the accusation. It was potentially possible that Sudo had one of those cards and he was making that suggestion to hide what he was actually looking for. The only reason I knew that wasn't the case was because Aronis showed me the knife card. So, it's not like it was simply a matter of being first online. That was a large part of it, but it wasn't "oh, hey, 5 passes, I'll make that accusation".

(I'm not saying that Sudo, or indeed anyone else who figured the solution out, didn't deserve the win, just that I don't think it can be called cheap.)

I don't think it's cheap, if that helps. I think it's an inherent weakness of the simultaneous ruleset combined with a "whoever happens to be online at the right time" wincon. It's not Mitillos's fault, he was just quickest on the draw.

I really like the concept Thurhame had for simultaneous rules to even out the turn order advantage, but I think this is a kink that should be ironed out.

I have a suggestion. It may be a little complicated, but I think it will eliminate the issue of time differences.

As soon as a player knows the solution, they can claim that they got the solution. Perhaps they can use
Solution found
, or something. After that, everyone else has a day (or two?) to also claim, in the same way. Afterwards, all who claimed, send a message to the mod, with the solution, as well as any cards they think they can place. Non-bidders can simply send in a message with the cards they can place.

If all bidders get the incorrect solution, they are eliminated and the game continues as normal. If any bidder gets the right answer, the game ends, with each player getting a score, based on the cards they figured out.

A bidder who did not get the right answer gets 0 points.
A bidder who got the answer gets 20 points plus one more point for each additional card they placed correctly.
A non-bidder gets 2 points for correctly naming a solution card and 1 point for correctly placing a non-solution card.

This could cause people to make guesses for extra points, so an incorrectly placed card will reduce one's score by 6 points for solution cards and 2 points for other cards.

Possible additional rule: People not playing could also send in their guesses at that time and get 1 point for each correct card they place (with the same 6 pt. and 2 pt. deductions for incorrect cards). They don't get extra points for solution cards.

Ah, good job, Mitillos. I think I'd have had it down after this round as well.

The concept of synchronized guessing was neat, but I still prefer having a board and actually moving around.

Correct
. Mitillos wins.

The "quickest on the draw" thing is a problem, but it's not a problem with the simultaneous rule, it's a problem with playing on a forum. The simultaneous rule just makes it more likely to occur.

I like Mitillos's suggestion of not declaring the accusation immediately and giving others time to accuse as well. However, the very act of accusing itself gives other people information; I don't think someone who wouldn't have accused without the prior accusation should win. How about making accusations PMs instead of posting them in thread? Then a day or two after the first accusation I could give the win to all who accused correctly.

@RedCoyote: I like playing on a board too, but there's no way I'm going to try to run that on a forum.

RECK did it before using Google Docs.

I don't think it would be too, too bad once you made it in code tags. But, yeah, I know what you mean. I'd run it myself, but I want to play it rather than run it, lol.

@Mitillos, Blackberry: By the way, how did you figure it out? According to my calculations, the only ones who actually knew the solution after that round were Cluebot, Sudo, and Aronis.

Let's see.

Sudo had returned a card on {Plum, Knife, Kitchen}, {Peacock, Rope, Kitchen} and {Peacock, Knife, Library}

From my suggestion R1 and RC's suggestion R2, no one had Peacock. I also saw Aronis' Knife card, so Sudo had the Library. From RC's suggestion R2, I also knew that Sudo didn't have the Kitchen, so he had the Rope and Plum. That's 3 cards, so he didn't have Wrench and Lounge. No one else did, either, so that was the solution.

And yeah, ClueBot and Sudo were responsible for 7 of the 12 responses of the first two rounds. Their hands were fairly easy to figure out.

@Blackberry: How did you figure out RC's cards?
