Melbourne has been hit by an asteroid which was predicted for years, confirmed by fact, petitioned for evacuation and politically abandoned.

The population swelled to 30 million as the impact occurred due to the city being swamped by original thinkers assuming every reported fact was untrue. Anecdotal evidence suggests that both peak density and impact point centred around Fitzroy.

Fortunately localities outside of a 100km radius remain unaffected (and have received extra government funding and better internet access as the country rebuilds the state outside of the crater).

Holy Terra suffered a major catastrophe: it turns out that the outer and inner cores of Terra is Khorne, the God of Blood. The awakening of said God of Blood causes Holy Terra, along with whatever corpse the Emperor of Man has, to explode into pieces. Said Khorne decided to go to the Eye of Terror to drag Slaanesh out and smash her fragile little head into pieces. The resulting ass-kicking resulted in many craftworlds, including Ulthwé, to be completely obliterated.

The Dark Eldar are now extinct as they are casualties of Khorne beating the **** out of Slaanesh.

The Imperium of Man are completely helpless due to the Astronomicon ceasing to function after the destruction of the God-Emperor of Mankind. Humanity decided to join the Tau Empire in order to form the joint Empire-Imperium of Man and Tau.

With the discovery of many ancient Man technology, Tau technology rose to heights even higher than Man technology during the Dark Age of Technology. They proceeded to incorporate/utterly pwn the Eldar, though the Eldar probably don't care much about intergalatic war anymore.

They were probably like 'Oh no, Tau WITH psykiks? GG let's surrender. That and Khorne is too much to handle. Let's join them'. The Emperor of All Mankind being reborn as an Eldar due to a combination of statistical probability, randomization and the attraction of psykik souls to a more psychic-attuned race played a role too.

The Tyranids got curbstomped since the joined Man-Tau-Eldar alliance decided to use Khorne as a weapon to do their dirty work for them by tricking him using small amounts of troops and stuff (Khorne is attracted to battle and will pwn everyone in it). Orks are too dumb to do stuff. Necrons are still mostly sleeping.
