The Mafia Game That Will Never End! (aka, Mafia Forever and Ever)

Shamelessly taken from Stabsinthe’s “The Endless Modified Mafia Game” (with a few modifications)

There is a myth of a small town called
Zóé
(pronounced dzo-ay for those who don’t speak Greek). This town is said to be divided by two factions: the everyday civilians called
Townies
; and the evil-doing criminals called the
Mafia
. There were probably some other neutral,
Third-Party
guys hidden among them, but no one remembers them, so they’re not important.

Now within
Zóé
’s factions were various special people. There were cops who were trained to find the anti-town; doctors to help save the poor people caught in the crosshairs of a gun; and vigilantes to take care of the
Mafia
. However, back in these days, mob mentality did not exist and the idea of lynching someone off every day in an attempt to rid
Zóé
of those evil
Mafioso
never occurred to the residents who lived there. (aka, there is no lynching in this game, only kills)

Set UpEveryone has a
Public Job
and a
Secret Job
. These can be the same thing. Your
Public Job
will be what everyone knows you as, whether it’s your average run-of-the-mill Townie that has nothing special about them, a doctor, a baker, a fisherman, a construction worker, or whatever your imagination can cook up, there’s no hiding this job from anyone.
However, you do have a secondary job, one that’s a secret from the public eye. This
Secret Job
can be any job that the
Public Job
can be.
Typically, your
Public Job
is used during the
Day
, and your
Secret Job
is used during the
Night
.

Everyone needs
Food
, after all, we can still die of starvation, can’t we? Every
Day
you will use one
Food
. There are various items that can be considered
Food
. Mainly they’re things like
Bread
or
Fish
or
Popcorn
. All acceptable
Food
items will be coloured
blue
. You may consume
Food
at any time, however, unless you are
Starving
, this will have no effect (see later for details).

Everyone has an
Inventory
. In your
Inventory
, you’ll be able to carry all your items. Each characters
Inventory
limit is dependent on their role and will be decided by
Me
(your wonderful and loving mod) to help balance the game. Anything you own that isn’t in your
Inventory
will be at your
House
. Your
Inventory
is on you at all times, and for someone to steal something from it, they must pass certain
Requirement Checks
that will depend on the player’s
Secret Job
. This will also be decided by
Me
in order to help balance the game.
Most items have one (1) weight, some have less (like bullets at a mere 0.5/bullet) or more (like weapons at 2). If you do not have room in your
Inventory
to carry an item, you must go back to your
House
, drop off some weight, and then move back to where you were. Moving and Turns will be covered later. Everyone will start off with 5
Bread
at their
House
, everyone will be able to start with up to five (5) weight in their
Inventory
, which items each player starts with is dependent on their
Public Job
and
Secret Job
.

Along with items, there is also money. Everyone will start off with $1000 at their
House
. Most players can only hold $1000 in their
Inventory
, though as always, this is dependent on their
Secret Job
. Money can be gained through buying and selling items. All transactions will go through
Me
.

Everyone will have a
House
and everyone is technically considered a shop owner, even if they don’t produce anything to sell. Your
House
's capacity of items and money is limitless, though its
Security
is substantially lower than your
Inventory
. If a
House
does not have Protection, it can be robbed without you even being alerted.

How To Play
Turns
:
  • There are eight (8) turns in a
    Day
and four (4) turns in a
    Night
    . Each turn will last
    24 hours
. You can plan ahead and queue up to four (4) turns (which will equal
    84 hours
). Due to the turns being such a long length, if you do not submit an action, you won’t do anything for that turn. You will never be prodded or kicked out of the game, but you will stand there defenseless while people rob you and your
    House
of everything you have, so I highly recommend against it.
Actions
:
  • Actions are how you accomplish anything in the game.
    • Moving
: Moving will change your Location. This will take one (1) turn.
      Power
: This is your jobs ability (i.e. Protect, Investigate, Kill, Open/Close Shop, Build, etc.). This includes Faction Kills. This will take one (1) turn.
      Shopping
      :
      • Costumers
: This will allow you access to a Quick Topic in which you and the shop owner can discuss goods and prices in private. This will take one (1) turn. If the shop isn't Open then you can't shop, if you try to shop while it's Closed nothing will happen and you will not lose a turn.
        Shop Owners
: This will put an Open sign on your
        House
        .
You do not have to be at your
        House
        to do this.
        However, not being at your
        House
        will decrease
        Security
. This will take one (1) turn.
      Transfer
: This will allow you to access your
      Inventory
give items away. If at your
      House
, this will allow you to move items between your
      Inventory
      and
      House
. This will take one (1) turn.
      Eating
: This will happen automatically as
      Day
      turns to
      Night
. You will consume one (1)
      Food
. You will be returned to your
      House
. This will not take any turns. If you do not have any
      Food
      then you will become
      Starving
      (see later for details).
      Sleeping
: This will happen automatically as
      Night
      turns into
      Day
. You will be returned to your
      House
. This will not take any turns.
    The Mafia
    :
    • All of the Mafia make one (1) faction night kill. If there is more than one faction of Mafia (i.e. Werewolves/Aliens) they too, will each get to make one (1) night kill as a faction. Their wincon should be along the lines of winning when half of
      Zóé
is made up of their faction, or nothing can prevent that from happening.
    The Town
    :
    • Their wincon should be along the lines of winning when no anti-Town party remains.
    The Others
    :
    • These exist? Uhm… have whatever wincon you want. You guys are wild cards. Go crazy! Seroiusly! Everyone should be a Third-Party; it’ll be a
      party
      !

LocationsThese are the places around
Zóé
that things can happen at. You must be at a Location at all times. Your Location will not be announced or kept track of publicly. Deaths will be tied to a Location, though they will not be revealed to the public. Each Location is special and does a different thing, all starting Locations will be
Houses
, but more can be built later. Details about building will be known by someone who has the Power to Build.

Status EffectsThere are many Status Effects in the game. The most commonly known one is
Starvation
, however many more can be found with Powers and/or Locations.

Security and Requirement Checks
Security
and
Requirement Checks
are a very important part of the game. Think of your
Security
as your defense, and
Requirement Checks
as your offense. There are seven (7) levels of each, and for a
Requirement Check
to succeed, the
Security
must be lower than the
Requirement Check
(i.e. High
Requirement Check
can pass any Medium
Security
or lower. Maximum
Requirement Check
would be able to pass everything except Maximum
Security
. To be able to pass Maximum
Security
, special objects or Status Effects must be in place).
  • Non-existent
    - This means you have absolutely no
    Security
    and anyone can pass a
    Requirement Check
on it. You will never be told if someone passes a
    Requirement Check
    .
    Very Low
    - This means you have some
    Security
, although it almost always fails. Depending on what the Action was, you most likely won't be told if someone passes a
    Requirement Check
    .
    Low
    - This means you have a bit of
    Security
, though you shouldn't rely on it as it has a decent chance to fail. Typically you will be told if someone passes a
    Requirement Check
    .
    Medium
    - This means you have moderate
    Security
, which usually succeeds. You will typically be told if someone passes a
    Requirement Check
    .
    High
    - This means you have decent
    Security
and almost always succeeds. Unless there are special circumstances, you will be told if someone passes a
    Requirement Check
    .
    Very High
    - This means you have excellent
    Security
and you can rely on it without fail. You will always be told if someone passes a
    Requirement Check
    .
    Maximum
    - This means your
    Security
is top notch. Nothing can get through this. You will always be told if someone passes a
    Requirement Check
    .
Security
and
Requirement Checks
can be upgraded a number of ways.
Security
will increase slightly every time an Action on it failed, likewise it will decrease every time an Action succeeds (vise versa for
Requirement Checks
). The main way to increase
Security
is to Build it (see details later). The main way to increase
Requirement Checks
is to use your
Secret Job
's Ability. Each
Secret Job
Ability has a rate at which it obtains points. Non-existant to Very Low requires 5 points, Very Low to Low requires 15 points, Low to Medium requires 35 points, Medium to High requires 95 points, High to Very High requires 215 points, Very High to Maximum requires 450 points. Points are cumulative and no one will start off knowing either the amount of points they have, nor the rate at which they will be gained.
When asking whether or not something has a
Security
on it, assume that yes, it does, and a
Requirement Check
will have to be passed. This includes Abilities.

BuildingBuilding is another essential part of the game. If there is someone with the ability to Build, then it will be up to you to make a contract with them while in their
House
(using the Shop Action). If there is no one with the ability to Build, then prices to build new buildings will be set by
Me
and it means that no matter how far in the game we are, the time it takes to build something will always remain at eighteen (18) turns. Having the option to build a specific type of building does not mean you have the ability to Build, it means that if you build that specific building (either through a contract or through me) the time will be slightly increased and/or the starting
Security
on the building will be higher than normal and/or the price might be reduced.

CommunicationAs with a normal mafia game, no communication outside of the thread is allowed unless I have issued it.

DeathUpon dying, nothing about you will be revealed aside from the method used to kill you (i.e. stabbed, shot, beheaded, bleed to death, etc.). This is because there will be chances to be revived. More information about this will be available upon your death. If you do succeed in being revived, your
Secret Job
and Alignment will be the same, you will, however, have the opportunity to change your
Public Job
, though this will take more work.

Joining the GameAnyone can join the game at anytime. You do so by PMing
Me
with your
Public Job
,
Secret Job
, Alignment and everything in your
Inventory
. Changes will be made as necessary.
The items you start off with in your
Inventory
must equal or be less than five (5) weight. As I said, everyone will start with 5
Bread
and $1000 at their
House
. Changes will be made as necessary.

    • Aronis' House -

      JDGA's House -

    Status Effects
    • Starvation
: This occurs when you do not consume Food during Eating. While under this effect, you can not use Powers at any time. To get rid of this effect, you must consume Food. Once Food has been consumed, you may use Powers again on the next turn. If you are
      Starving
for more than twenty-four (24) turns, you will die.
