Welcome to Countdown! The exciting puzzle solving game! This game features will only feature the Letters Game and the Numbers Game, leaving out the Conundrum! The Format of this game will consist of it being a free-for-all rather than individuals going up against each other. Anyone can join in at any time. Each round will consist of one Letters Game and one Numbers Game, with the highest score from the previous round choosing the next combinations of vowels/consonants and large/small numbers. Tiebreaker for that will be based on total score followed by when you first joined. If you tie as first place, and were the last person to choose the combinations, you are excluded from the calculations for determining who is next to choose.

LETTERS GAME:

The Letters Game will consist of one player drawing letters randomly from a two decks which are based off of the frequency of the letters used in the English Language. One deck consists of consonants, and the other consists of vowels. The decks will be produced randomly as each round starts. The player selecting letters must select 9 letters from the deck with at least 3 vowels and 4 consonants. Players may select one letter at a time or elect to select multiple letters at once. (Example: I want V, C, V, C, C, C, etc.) Once the 9 letters are selected, players will have 72 hours to come up with the longest word they can come up with from that string of letters and PM this account their word. All players will score points equal to the length of the word they have submitted. If a player manages to use all 9 letters they get 18 points instead of 9.

For this game, Y is considered a consonant in terms of which deck it is in. Valid words consist of words using my own dictionary source. If they are not in my dictionary, they will not be counted as valid. Players may NOT use any dictionary or similar resource to look for words or check for the validity of their words. Words also may not repeat a letter that has already been used unless more than one of that letter has been selected.

NUMBERS GAME:

The Numbers Game has two decks like the Letters Game. The two decks are Large Numbers which consist of (25, 50, 75, and 100) and Small Numbers which consist of 2 sequences of the numbers 1-10. The player whose turn it is will select from 0-4 large numbers and will be given a random assortment from the large deck and a random assortment from the small deck to give 6 numbers. A 3 digit number from 101-999 will be randomly generated. Players will then have 72 hours from to PM this account an expression using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division with any amount of the 6 numbers to reach the target number. Parentheses are also allowed for those wanting to list expressions using PEDMAS, but not exponents. A player need not use all numbers, but a player cannot use a number more than once unless more than one of a number is drawn. All numbers must be whole numbers. Players may not use any Calculators to help them solve the puzzle or check for the validity of the sums, Fingers however may be used if needed.

Players will score points based on how close they get to the target. They score 10 points if they hit the target exactly, 7 points if they don’t reach the target but are within 5 + or -, and 5 points if they are within 10 + or -. If no player uses a valid method or does not get within 10 of the target (i.e. 11 away or greater) no points will be awarded.

General rules:

1) Have Fun! It’s a game, enjoy yourself!
2) In this game I am the law. What I say goes. I will do my best to be fair and impartial. I also am not perfect and I may be prone to mistakes from time to time. Feel free to PM me with any questions, concerns, clarifications, etc.
3) No outside sources. The nature of this game does make it somewhat easy to cheat. Test yourself. See what you can do on your own merits! I trust you to be honorable and play fairly.
4) Deadlines for this game will be set at approximately 72 hours per round, I will not be strict on them and you can still submit or change answers up until I've picked up your PM.
5) If you would like an extra challenge, time yourself to 30 seconds from when you read each game to be like the gameshow, although I won't be holding anyone to this due as I know internet can be slow. (also you've being given two games at once)
6) If I have made a typo or an unclear rule, please let me know in thread and I will correct it. If a rule needs to be altered in this way I will announce that publicly.

Oi countdown, you missed stating parentheses are allowed.

Exponents are the only normal mathematical tools (PEDMAS) that aren't. Although, I do kind of want to allow them for the fun of it. I know I was able to solve one that came up on the tv show with them that was otherwise impossible.

Less than a day to get more submissions in if anyone else is interested.

Or more likely longer since I just started the thread after pokemon colosseum finished without thinking about meat world commitments

Round 1 is now complete!

Letters game had results ranging from 5 letters to 8.
Spoiler: 5 Letters words given
Nurse (Radja)

Spoiler: 6 Letters words given
Worsen (Cheery Dog, JDGA, Wickedestjr)

Spoiler: 7 Letters words given
Unsworn (ForWhomTheJellyRolls, Brian Skies), Neurons (Axxle)

Spoiler: 8 Letters words given
Neurones (Mitiltos)
This was the best word available.

Numbers game also had a variety of results, including multiple solutions
Starting with people furthest away.
Spoiler: Radja
(9x9x10)-100+50=760
Earning himself 5 points.

Spoiler: Brian Skies
50 * 10 + 100 + 2 * 9 * 9 = 762
Also 5 points

Spoiler: JDGA
100 + 10 = 110
9 - 2 = 7
110 * 7 = 770
7 points!

Spoiler: Mitiltos, Cheery Dog, Wickedestjr and ForWhomTheJellyRolls
9-2 = 7
7* 100 = 700
700 + 50 + 10 + 9 = 769
10 points! (only 2 were written this way, but they all still used the same solution)

Spoiler: Axxle
(100 - 10) * 9 - 50 + 9 = 769
And a unique solution to finish.

Overall that means Mitillos has won round 1 and will therefore choose the combinations for Round 2.

Let's keep both as before. 4 vowels/5 consonants, 2 large/4 small.

Skipping with the spoilers as we only have one person not reaching the numbers.

These people have a
Waddle
!
Cheery Dog & Save The Dragons

These people found a small
Detail
!
JDGA, Axxle and ForWhomTheJellyRolls

And the last 6 is a little
Wilted
!
Wickedestjr

And then we have the remainder finding the best word of the day and feeling
Dilated
!
Espeonage, Mitillos and Brian Skies.

There are (at least) 3 solutions for the numbers puzzle.
7 * 100 + 6 * 5
7 * 100 + 25 + 5
6 * 100 + 25 * 7 - 9 * 5

Save the Dragons only found 733.
(7 * 100 = 700
25 + 9 = 34 - (6 - 5) = 33
700 + 33 = 733)

Which means that Mitillos will be picking for us again.

We're stuck waiting for me to confirm the 8s that were submitted. I'm always confused with double words.

Overlove and overvote.

Both of those players solved numbers, so assuming I don't fail words, you can probably guess who won

Both words are fine.

Only one duplicate word in the rest of the submissions.

We're still stuck with Mit choosing though. The rest of the words and the numbers solution will be posted tonight. (my time)

You know, if someone else got the same score as I did on the round, they can probably be deemed to have won that round, so they can choose, instead.

That sounds like a good rule to introduce.
If you tie as first place, and were the last person to choose the combinations, you are excluded from the calculations for determining who is next to choose.

Anyway, results time!
