All of the eligible young men (and many of the not-so-young) seek to woo the princess of Tempest. Unfortunately, she has locked herself in the palace, and you must rely on others to take your romantic letters to her. Will yours reach her first?
Love Letter is a game of risk, deduction, and luck. Your goal is to get your love letter into Princess Annette's hands while deflecting the letters from competing suitors. Each player starts with only one card in hand. On a turn, you draw one card, and play one card, trying to expose others and knock them from the game. Powerful cards lead to early gains, but make you a target. Rely on weaker cards for too long, however, and your letter may be tossed in the fire!
GAME CARDS
- Each card has a value in the upper left corner - the higher the number, the closer that person is to the princess.
- At the bottom of each card, a text box describes the effect when the card is discarded.
- See below for a list of all cards and their effects.
SETUP
- All cards will be shuffled, and one will be removed from the deck.
- Each player then gets one card from the deck. This is the player's hand, and is kept secret from the others.
- If this is the first game, a player will be randomly chosen to go first. Otherwise, the winner of the previous game goes first.
HOW TO PLAY
- Love Letter is played in a series of rounds.
- On your turn, you will draw the top card from the deck and add it to your hand.
- Then, you will choose one of the two cards and discard it face up in front of you.
- Any effects on the discarded card are then applied. You must apply its effect, even if it is bad for you.
- Once you finish applying the card's effect, the turn passes to the player on your left.
OUT OF A ROUND
- If you are knocked out of the round, you discard the card in your hand face up.
- The card's effect does not apply in this situation.
END OF A ROUND
- A round ends if the deck is empty at the end of a turn.
- All players still in the round reveal their hands.
- The player with the highest ranked person wins the round.
- In case of a tie, the player who discarded the highest total value of cards wins.
- A round also ends if all players but one are out of the round, in which case the remaining player wins.
- The winner receives a token of affection. The cards are then reshuffled, and a new round begins.
WINNING
After four rounds, all players that earned a token of affection will play one final round. The player that wins this round is named the overall winner, and wins the princess' heart!
