First off, I need to start with a shoutout to a player.
Gale Wing Srock literally saved the game. After my computer broke and there was a long break in the game, there was a period where I got sick and stressed out from finals and I really just needed a break from internet. But the game really couldn't keep its momentum if it had another break. Gale had previously told me if I ever need help running it to let him know, and I figured, "what the heck, maybe he can do it."
And boy did he. He did it much longer than he probably expected to, and yet he still did it without any complaining.
(I should also say he had some impressive game moments too. The stab of Axxle probably caught a lot of people by suprise, and he still managed to keep his reputation mostly intact from that first stab)
My second shoutouts will be to Nyalite and Shadoweh.
First, up until around 5 minutes before deadline, Drench was going to stab them and take out Shadoweh year 1 which would have made a very different game. But he didn't and they lead a very successful campaign. After year 1, they never came close to being in a bad position. Whenever something hypothetical would come up to prevent them, they dealt with it right away. The takeover of Austria was looking to be difficult, so they turned Bella to their side. The takeover of the Deathnote, Breeze, Ani group was going to be tough and they turn Mist to their side. They new the right people to turn to have control of the board for most of the game.
Final thoughts:
So yeah, this game was fun to mod, despite it being harder than I initially thought it would be with limited access to Jdip and computer stuff, but everyone was patient so thanks for that. I mainly wanted to test this chaos variant on here to see just how well it would work with the survivor and risk crowd. Some of the most fun games I've ever played were this chaos variant and I was hoping for people to get a taste here. I would say it worked quite well, with the early and midgame being very interesting and swingy. The late game battle ended up not being much of a battle when Mist went against Ani cementing the Turkish alliance's dominance, so the endgame may have been a little anticlimactic but everyone was still playing trying to get in on the draw which is fair enough.
Would this game type work again? Well, I think it might actually. Everyone would know what they're signing up for with an example game to see now so there wouldn't be as many civil disorders next game. (Fortunately there weren't too many civil disorders that changed the game. Serbia was probably the only one that had a noticeable effect.) Several people have told me they'd sign up for one if was run again so maybe in the future it would be fun to do one of these again. It would have to be anonymous now though, and I think there needs to be a live endgame once there are a certain amount of players. The live endgame would give a more epic finish I think.
But I think some simpler variants would be a better idea for the next while. And I wouldn't want to run the next one because I'd rather play it.
Time for some player rewards! (Nyalite and Shadoweh are disqualified because they lead the end game alliance and picking them would be too easy.)
Best Tactician: This reward goes to the player who made the best moves. They knew how to maneuver their armies or fleets to do what they wanted accomplished best:
Best Strategist: This involves having a good grip on the big picture. They knew what the best countries to work with were, when to stab, which alliances to join and who to join with, etc.
Best Negotiator: They knew how to get what they wanted from their press.
People's Choice: This reward goes to the people's favourite players.
Gone too soon reward: (Aka Siberian Champs)
Too nice for the game reward:
Darkhorse award
Thanks for playing everyone! It's been a pleasure.
